  1. If your TTg was positive you need to be gluten free regardless of the results of the biopsy. Have you tried the diet yet? Many times the wrong place is biopsied or the results will show changes that are typical of celiac but many clueless GI will want you to keep eating gluten until the villi are completely destroyed before they will 'officially' diagnose...
  2. I am glad you got through and were able to get the med. It should help fairly quickly at least with the itching and inflammation. As far as the heartburn issue goes for my DD it was her only GI symptom, most others were neuro related. For those times when we get glutened we use Pepto and it seems to help fast. There are many folks who have DH that don...
  3. DON'T USE HENNA You can not use henna over a regular hair dye, it will actually say this on the box. It will cause your hair to break off or worse. If you want to use henna you will need to let your hair grow out completely and then cut off the dyed part.
  4. Hi Julie I am so glad you are feeling better. I wish I could have been there to watch that dance. You should tape him if you can and play it on his 16th birthday for all his freinds. I love country too and the old musical songs, like from Gigi and such. Where I grew up you had to use ear plugs and stick the records in Rolling Stones or Zepplin...
  5. That is such good news. If you can get there on a moments notice ask if you can be on their cancellation list, sometimes you can get in quicker. I have wondered how you were doing, I hope they can help you get some answers.
  6. With your symptoms starting after the birth of your child and an infection it is possible. There are a couple ways to find out other than the blood work. You could check out Enterolab, they do fecal and gene testing. They can't diagnose you celiac but they can tell you if you are forming antibodies to gluten, casein and other foods. You could also...
  7. It does make it much easier, but if not possible there are a few things that will cut your risk. If you haven't already get your own toaster, cutting board and can opener. If your pots and pans are old and or scratched get yourself also a small set of the essentials for just your use. Now get a tote with lid label it as yours only and put those things...
  8. Very true but if noone has diagnosed her officially with DH they probably won't give it to her. From the description she gives, especially on the hands it will most likely be considered 'contact dermatitis'. DH blisters look much like a severe plant oil reaction, mine was thought to be poison ivy. Prednisone would clear my severe DH up as a child, I...
  9. Your doc sounds like a real winner. I might just start looking for another one, she should have let you finish your query. That said, what you are experiencing is not unusual and it does sound like gluten. They could have floured the pan, flour wouldn't be an ingredient technically then or you should look at what you drank. While many tolerate gluten...
  10. Boy he sure does not sound like a silent celiac, he may not have constant D but he is not symptomsless. Who cares if his doctor thinks he is crazy he should not ask for the test he should demand it. There is no reason for his doctor not to at least blood test. If he should refuse or you want to go another route you can use Enterolab for stool and gene...
  11. It breaks my heart too. I lost my twin at 15 due to autoimmune liver destruction. Our whole family could have been poster children for celiac but no one ever even checked. My liver enzymes were always elevated before diagnosis, but I was a closet drinker according to my doctors and just lied about it, yea right. My enzymes are now at normal levels.
  12. If your regular doctor is not available you should go to the ER. A short course of oral prednisone, it should be about 10 days to 2 weeks and will be a large dose first day with decreasing doses after that should help if they will give it to you. Too many side effects for long term control but it should get you out of this crisis. It is commonly used for...
  13. Excellent letter, well expressed. Fiddle Faddle, Your right the diet isn't the worst thing in the world, it is the years of misdiagnosis and the resulting problems that are often permanent and deadly that is. For those of us who were extremely damaged before diagnosis, and who are forced to follow the zero tolerance rule because our bodies make us...
  14. Yes gluten is in most mainstream cigs. The only one I know of that does not have multiple additives including gluten substances is one called "Natural American Spirit" they are all tobbacco with no additives at all. I found after the first one tht they are a good cig, the first seemed harsh. I also find I smoke much, much less with them. They have a toll...
  15. For many after the D shows up the worst is over but we can have related issues for up to 3 weeks, this applies especially if you have neuro or DH issues. The best ways to help speed healing along for me are first off I make sure I have taken my sublingual B12, it helps with the nerve and neuro related issues, if I have acute stomach pain I will take pepto...
  16. If you can tolerate it yogurt with live cultures may be able to help stabalize those digestive bacteria. Make sure it is gluten-free of course and if you don't tolerate dairy but can tolerate soy those taste pretty good. I also hate pills, I have had more than enough in my lifetime and yogurt seems to do the trick. We also use it as a preventative whenever...
  17. I am glad you are getting relief from the diet. It amazes me daily how stupid some, not all but too many, doctors are. As far as supplements go a sublingual gluten-free B12 is going to be one that you will need, also you may want to get a 'stress' blend, high B's and C's. If you are still menstruating a good vitamin with iron may be in order but iron...
  18. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you. Unfortunately in most cases you can NOT tell just by looking at the label of script drugs. Your pharm really should have called and checked. I have actually had one ball up and throw the inside lit from a script across the room when I asked her to check. I had her pick up the paper and hand it to me and called...
  19. I agree with this completely except the part that says doctors "finally accept that gastric ulcers were caused by H Pylori, rather than stress or coffee consumption" unfortunately many doctors were hiding under their bed when this discovery was made. I have just had not one but two doctors, my ex GI and my ex GP, refuse flatly to even test for it....
  20. All I can say is that if I were you I would put him on the diet. IMHO the only difference between celiac and gluten intolerance is the systems impacted. It sounds like he is being effected both neurologically and physically. His history reads like my childhood, and those leg pains you refer to are excruciating. I would dream I was being cut in half almost...
  21. In addition to the one on the home page here is this one from the celiac sprue association. I like this one in particular because it addresses the issue of alcohol and distilled grains better than any others I have found and has 2 stages, a beginning for those newly diagnosed and a later stage for adding stuff in after healing has progressed a bit. ...
  22. Oh I wish I had some answers for you. Then I would have some for me. I have the same fear as you, I have watched my family die from celiac related disorders at a very young age. I pray everyday for just 5 more years and I am not experiencing even half of what you are going through. I had a number of the same diagnoses that you did and was fortunate...
  23. I was mysteriously glutened for a month or so not to long ago. The culprit, a vitamin that had wheat and barley grass but was still labeled gluten-free. I was also severely glutened with a reaction in minutes from a bottle of green tea that had wheat grass added to it. Myself I will NEVER touch it again and the experience with the vitamin has made me very...
  24. I would not do a gluten challenge. She has already been identified as having a problem with gluten and there is no reason IMHO to poison her. Being gluten-free is not going to mask any other conditions although it may relieve them. I would also make sure she is wearing a dust mask, gloves and changes clothes, showers and washes her hair as soon as she...
  25. Deb, I am sorry you are going through this, with 15 years of daily D before my diagnosis I can definately sympathize. I read your signature and noticed that it is your DH that you are referring to, are you gluten free also? Or have you been tested and told that your not? I had a great deal of gallbladder pain prediagnosis which after reading your signature...
