  1. Or perhaps RA is actually the autoimmune celiac reaction that has chosen to attack the joints rather than the just the intestines. I wonder how many doctors suggest trying the diet strictly as a first mode of treatment rather than the expensive and toxic drugs I was given over the years. Not many I think. But I do know for sure that I would not have the...
  2. Your symptoms sound a lot like mine, although I had ataxia and arthritis thrown in. One thing I found was that to resolve the neuro and skin related troubles, including my hairloss, I had to be very, very strict with the diet. I also had to eliminate gluten from all toiletries and shampoos and such. It is hard at first to be as gluten free as we need...
  3. Hello all, Things are looking up today. I was in the kitchen tossing out a number of bowls of untouched canned food, baby food, yogurt etc. when I heard crunching and the big dolt was eating the crunchies I put out for the others, totally ignoring his buck twenty-five can of Innova. It seems the antibiotics are helping finally and on Tuesday we will...
  4. Unfortunately we do have to call about anything with 'natural' flavors. I usually phrase it this way, "Can you tell me if this item contains wheat, rye, barley or oats or ANY of their chemical derivitives?" Barley Malt does not have to be disclosed and as far as natural flavors and colors this is IMHO our biggest risk. If a company is not forthcoming I...
  5. Things that make you go hmmmmmm. It does not surprise me that the genes are the same. If it wasn't for the fact that my arthritis for years was only on one side of my body, (that side does have permanent joint damage) I would have had that false label also. It took a long time before I stopped having flares gluten-free but I have now been in arthritic...
  6. I am so glad you found out what it is. Yes do give her some yogurt. Make sure it is gluten-free, Yoplait labels the ones they have that are and most are, wegmans does also if you have one close. We use the yogurt from the day before, if possible, to a couple of days after we stop antibiotics and have almost always avoided the 'antibiotic runs'. I hope...
  7. Until you know for sure what the rash is please make sure you stay away from any pregnant women. There are kiddy sicknesses that can really be serious for them and the baby. Your right about getting it over before school but I don't envy you guys having anything itchy in the summer heat. Hope your doctor was helpful and everyone is spot free soon.
  8. I actually use that technique on my other smaller kitties, he hangs too far out of the towel. We call it the kitty tortilla. It does work real well for 'normal' sized kitties. This guy is twice the size of my pom-a-poo. The problem also, other than size and strength, was prying open his mouth which is excrutiatingly painful for him right now. The big...
  9. Try the diet before you believe those blood tests, and as stated if you have DH you need to be on the gluten free diet, period, end of story. I was always negative on blood tests and believing them cost me many many many painful years. And some permanent damage that I would not have had if I had been diagnosed when I was first symptomatic. I also have...
  10. You are so lucky! To say I am jealous is putting it mildly. Unfortunately here in the States in most places a gluten-free meal in an Italian restaurant would be really, really chancey UNLESS they are actually knowledgeable. If that is the case they will have a gluten free menu. If there is a celiac support group in the area maybe they would know of...
  11. Many of us do seem to get more sensitive after everything has finally been gotten out of the system and our bodies have had a chance to feel recovery our bodies can become quite unhappy when we get even trace amounts. I consider this a good thing as it helps motivate me to not take as many chances.
  12. The diet you listed sounded great in the other post, this bit now that is an eyeopener. Have you tried cutting out the candy and the cokes for a couple of weeks or a month? This would be the very first thing I would do.
  13. Morning all, He seems to be a bit better although eating is still an issue. He did eat a small amount last night after the pain med but isn't as interested this morning. He seems to be drinking okay now so that is good. The pain med has worn off he seems brighter and much like himself. He is no longer drooling and has cleaned his face and paws so...
  14. I gave him the pain meds an hour or so ago but he still isn't interested in food. I do agree that at this point the infection is his worse problem. It actually was a shot for kennel cough not the parvo but the vet thinks everything is fine in respect to that but did mention checking the injection site. I had found a stray dog back in 70's that did...
  15. From French's web site - Q: Are FRENCH'S
  16. He sounds like a real winner, did he do both ends? Did he do a full colonoscopy with biopsies? Or did he just do a sigmoidoscopy since he was so convinced it was hemmies? It sounds like he knows nothing about celiac. I wish I had a good doc for you but I am upstate and am looking myself.
  17. Don't know if these would apply but the two biggest culprits for me with CC for the first couple years were that I had not changed my canopener, and my pet's, dog, cats, bird (now gone) and fish food was getting me. I also became severely glutened when I did some drywall work and by using my favorite watersoluable non toxic glue for my glass work. It will...
  18. We got back from the vet a bit ago and she gave him an antibiotic shot and ran a blood panel along with some IV fluids. He is still refuseing to eat or drink and she called back and said the blood work was good except for a bit of a elevation to his protein levels so it is going to be okay to give him some pain meds. I'll be able to pick those up in an...
  19. Hi and thanks for you all's concern. He does not look real good right now. That could be due more to not having any food or water though as he is still gagging and pulling at his mouth when he tries to eat. He is VERY large and of course he may be diabetic and right now I am concerned about junk like ketosis. He was born to a stray that I had...
  20. These are strong positive results. Welcome to the family. Read as much here as you can and ask any questions you need to. Boy do I wish my blood tests had looked like yours, it would have saved me years of pain, hopelessness and permanent disability. It will seem hard at first, and it does take some getting used to but it is going to be well worth it...
  21. All I can add is you sure are in the right place, and we are glad your here. Unfortunately we can all identify real well with your post. Wishing you the best and welcome.
  22. Thanks I will sleep a bit better tonight. The other kitties reactions to him are a bit of a worry though. They are all very quiet and refused to eat after he left the bowl without eating anything. I know he is miserable though even if only from the toothache and not eating for a day and his antibiotic on an empty stomach. He knocked a canine tooth out...
  23. If CC issues make you nervous you could try to find Kinnickinik brand where you are. I hope I spelled that right. Their facility is a dedicated gluten-free one and their sandwich cookies, while not as good as their italian bread are pretty good. And their frozen pizza crusts are the best I have ever found. They are even flaky, great with jam and cream...
  24. It sounds like he has been doing really well on the gluten free diet. Please be sure to research biopsies and the freqency of false negatives throughly and severe reactions to gluten challenge after being gluten-free for a bit. Are you going to put him on gluten if the biopsy is negative? If the answer is no and his gluten symptoms become severe I might...
  25. I totally agree with this. My mystery glutening stopped for the most part after I gave away my bird, (there is no safe bird seed and they are most likely the only creatures that should be eating that stuff) and switched my other pets to gluten-free food. Well except for the fish in the pond and I wear gloves when feeding them and only water nonfood plants...
