ARCHIVED Tostitos
ravenwoodglass replied to hollyres's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Gee isn't that nice of them How about putting a 'made in a facility that processes wheat on the label', oh wait that would cut their sales and then they couldn't put out a list 4 pages long of cross contamininated items that newbies think are safe. I will never buy their products even if they do start to label truthfully I would not trust them and their... -
ARCHIVED Any Dentist's Out There? Or Anyone That Might Know!
ravenwoodglass replied to jmd3's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Did they use a topical to numb the area before injection of the novacaine? This is often the culprit. You should double check on the glue though and also call your dentist today and tell him you have gotten glutened there. Many dentists are clueless and do not think there is a need to check products. They often assume they are all safe, they are not.... -
ARCHIVED I Need Support, Please!
ravenwoodglass replied to horsegirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Have you told your GI what is going on? If not you should. There is a risk of neuro damage going past the point of being able to recover gluten-free. I am not trying to scare you just to make you aware. If you have not contacted your doctor do so today. He may diagnose you based on your response to adding gluten back in, he should, but being a GI doctor... -
ARCHIVED Mastocytosis--anyone Have This Or Heard About It?
ravenwoodglass replied to Judyin Philly's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Mastocytosis, I had never heard of this either. The links are interesting reading especially for folks who may not have had complete resolution of problems gluten-free. I wonder which genes this is associated with they mention finding them but not the ones they are. Curiosity will most likely make me look further. I am wondering if that reaction could... -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Asthma And Blood Clots
ravenwoodglass replied to dancer4jc's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I can't answer about the blood clots but I can about the asthma. Myself and DH both have asthma. Mine required a rescue inhalor and a daily med. In 5 years gluten-free I have only felt the need for an inhalor once and that was when trimming bushes I was allergic to. I weaned off and eliminated all drugs under doctors supervision before my elimination... -
ARCHIVED Campbell's Products
ravenwoodglass replied to Yellow Rose's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
There are many places where the gluten could hide in this label, the spice extractives in the beef, the MFS (although doubtful it was here as it should be corn) carmel coloring, this is the most suspect as barley is often used and wheat starch can be also, mono and diglycerides can be wheat derived, mixed tocopherols is another, this is often derived from... -
ARCHIVED Foodshouldtastegood Chips
ravenwoodglass posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I kept seeing these in the store but always passed cause they don't have a gluten free label. Well I grabbed one bag today and figured I would try to find out if they're safe. It wasn't easy to find but the website says all their chips are safe and that they have a dedicated facility. I just thought I would pass it on. -
ARCHIVED Vet Called Me During Surgery On Big Boy Not Good News
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Update, he is home and feeling much much better. He tore through not only his food but the other cat's as well. I am keeping him on soft stuff for a bit but he seems to be doing well. We have to wait on the biopsy of course but I am tending to think along the lines of what Sandy posted. Hopefully the worst is over. Thanks everyone for your thoughts and... -
ARCHIVED New To Group....need Advice....
ravenwoodglass replied to lv2bmom23's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
In addition to what the others have mentioned make sure she is not getting cross contamination anywhere. She may suffer from neuro effects from gluten and we tend to be extremely sensitive to CC. Even small amounts will cause a return of depressive symptoms in my son and I. Make sure if you haven't already to check any and all meds and supplements she... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease And Topical Applications ?
ravenwoodglass replied to irish daveyboy's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I agree with your last statement, many go through awful withdrawl from any neurotoxin and gluten is definately one of those. I also agree that not everything is gluten, your migraine example is a good one. I lived with migraines, sometimes it was just the auras, sometimes also the pain, for many many many years. I was lucky and they did stop after I... -
ARCHIVED Vet Called Me During Surgery On Big Boy Not Good News
ravenwoodglass posted a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
The vet just called. Big Boy was still under anesthesia for the extraction of the bad teeth. They fell out in her hand. She suspects that he has cancer but we will not know for sure until the biopsy is back. She said there is still a chance it was just a bad infection so those of you who do please say a prayer or two for the big guy. I have been prepared... -
ARCHIVED Wonderful Bread
ravenwoodglass replied to stargazer's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I love the Kinnikinnick brand. Their italian white is fantastic, like all of our breads it needs to be zapped and or toasted but it has the texture of bread not cardboard and doesn't fall apart. They also make a frozen pizza shell that is flaky and doughy and is also good for cream cheese and jelly. Their hamburger and hot dog buns are good also and make... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease And Topical Applications ?
ravenwoodglass replied to irish daveyboy's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I also believe that gluten can not be absorbed through INTACT skin. The problem with topicals is that they can get onto the mucous membranes and also be injested through CC contact with foodstuffs. Not everyone is going to have a noticeable reaction, also over time the same person's obvious reactions can change. For example, in the first couple of years... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease And Topical Applications ?
ravenwoodglass replied to irish daveyboy's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Since you seem to really want an answer and not just be wanting to stir dissent if you go to this post, Open Original Shared Link and click on the links on post number 53 you will find some info on the issue of gluten reaction from the instillation of minute amounts on the mucous membranes. The first link is PubMed. The links deal with testing... -
ARCHIVED Frequent Urination
ravenwoodglass replied to totosamnat's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You should make a call to your doctor and get tested for diabetes and other problems. Better safe than sorry as they say. -
I was almost dead at diagnosis. My signature contains the main problems I had but not the only ones. It took a while, about 6 months before my energy levels became normal and my related disorders, arthritis and skin problems and extreme hairloss etc resolved. I was very damaged so it is doubtful that some of the brain and nerve damage will ever resolve...

ARCHIVED Vet Techs Help If You Can
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I got up this morning and every single food bowl was licked clean. And guess who was looking at me expectantly as soon as the water ran for the coffee. The worst seems to be over, I am very relieved because the chances of spreading the infection from a hot tooth are great if it has to be pulled before the infection is under control. He goes in for the... -
ARCHIVED Hershey's Mini Almond Joy Candy Bars
ravenwoodglass replied to Joni63's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Unfortunately with celiac you don't drop dead on the spot, that seems to be the requirement for an allergan label. It isn't surprising that labeling requirements let us down in a country that makes billions off us prediagnosis. If doctors are so reluctant to diagnose us or even to test, in many cases, and would rather label us with disorders requiring... -

Good idea and done. And yes that is my adult size 6.5 foot next to him. He also goes by the nickname of 'No Neck Malone'. As you can see he is feeling much better and a couple days without food have not decreased his size at all. -
ARCHIVED Caramel Color
ravenwoodglass replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Your right it can be made from all those but it can also be made from good old sugar and starches like tapioca. Hopefully some day we will see carmel coloring (from -----) on a regular basis. If we call the companies and ask often enough it will hurry that process along. -
ARCHIVED Test Results
ravenwoodglass replied to fitgirlie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had never heard the link with congenital malformations. Do you perhaps have a link to the article? I would imagine it is a rare occurance as I have never heard anyone speak of it on the boards. But then I have never brought up the ones I was born with other than to mention the surgery when talking of triggers and excaberations. In my family I was the... -

This was priceless, thanks for much for much needed laughter. -
It is not in your head, I repeat it is not in your head. The veggie burger is most likely the cause and you may end up experiencing an increase in some of your other gluten related problems too. The best thing I have found for this pain is pepto bismal, name brand. It gets rid of the pain for me in one dose and usually it doesn't return. You may also...

Paula thanks so much for letting us know how things turned out for your guy. I am glad it was nothing serious. We do worry so much about them. Glad to hear your crew is going in for a cleaning, at my Pooh Bear's last visit they sent us home with a toothbrush, a finger brush and toothpaste. When I take the Big Boy in Tues I am going to ask for another...
