  1. Of course you can. I was finally diagnosed after years and years of misery and false negatives by doing a elimination diet, allergist assisted, and then challenging with gluten. It took 3 days after I added gluten back in to react, which is common so if you get 'sick' anywhere between today and a couple of days from now that might give you your answer....
  2. For me it is a personal preference driven by years of toxic meds and a dislike and distrust of pills but I much prefer to balance my tummy with a certified gluten-free yogurt. We even use it as a preventative when one of us has to take antibiotics. We start the yogurt the day we start the antibiotics and continue through the treatment and that seems to...
  3. My bet would actually be the Cheetos. Did you eat them within 3 days of this episode? Gluten can be a delayed reaction, for me it is a 3 day lag for tummy troubles. Cheetos have gotten me more than once, not everytime but often enough for me not to eat them again. CC issues are high with some companies and in my personal experience Frito Lay products...
  4. I am glad to hear you are doing a bit better. I hope everything turns out to be okay for your furry freind. We had a similar scare with my best kitty freind (don't tell the others we not supposed to have favorites ) even the vet thought the mass in his ear was cancer and it sure did look like it. We almost put him down but decided to do the surgery instead...
  5. Hope your birthday is Happy and Relaxing. Thanks for being here for all of us, you deserve the best day you can have. Krista
  6. LOL What a winner he is. Well at least you have a conclusive diagnosis and don't have to go through all kinds of nasty tests to get it. Oh well there are good doctors out there, they are just so darned hard to find.
  7. Hi Matt, I would put the products that make her feel ill side by side and compare labels. See if there is any one ingredient in common like soy for example, a common intolerance. If soy or tapioca or whatever is in everything then try other products that do not have that ingredient. Another possibility is that the carb level is too high for her. Is...
  8. It wouldn't hurt but I am not sure it would really help to repopulate the good guys. The best thing I have found to balance the bacteria is yogurt with live cultures. Just make very sure it is gluten-free, lots aren't. Some also use probiotics with a great deal of success.
  9. You have gotten some good advice on time frames, for what blood tests are worth anyway, don't forget though a positive is a positive even if just a little bit and a negative is never conclusive. You may find blood testing a moot point anyway, see how you react to adding it back in. If you get very ill 1 to 4 days after you start eating gluten again that...
  10. Paula the key thing you have to remember is what I have copied from your post. Gluten is a neurotoxin for many, this is a natural result of the glutening. I know it does not help a lot but you should tell yourself it will pass. Because it will. Let yourself feel bad for now, there is also a greiving process as some have said, but the gluten brain reaction...
  11. Sure does sound like you got glutened. Effectively you just did a gluten challenge. I hope you recover quickly but it can take some time. Some extra sublingual B12 may help a bit with the fatigue and some find pepto bismal (name brand) to help if your stomach still hurts. Redbridge is an okay gluten free beer and there are others. They are pricey but...
  12. There are databases but they are only accurate for the day they are done, I think Clan Thompson site may have one but I am not sure. It is better to learn which companys clearly list gluten ingredients, Kraft is one but there are others, which have stuff that looks gluten free but has a high risk of CC, Frito Lay is an example of those. If you have...
  13. False negative abound in celiac testing. Going on the gluten free diet to see if it helps is only going to improve your thyroid if the diet is needed. The diet will not mask any other disorders or disease. Sometimes the best diagnostic there is is your response to the diet.
  14. Have you considered going through enterolab? That might be the least invasive way to find out whether gluten is a problem for you and you can order testing for eggs, casien, yeast, soy and also they can check for microscopic colitis. That might give you a starting point to eliminate some of the issues that you have going on. Then after you have eliminated...
  15. Try the diet even though your tests were negative. I relied on blood tests cause I didn't know any better and it cost me years of pain and some permanent brain and nerve damage along with damage to other body systems that can not be fixed. If only those clueless doctors had told me to try the diet when I was first thought to have celiac life would have...
  16. I hope you can finally get some answers, but one note of caution about the results, as stated get them in your hands and look at them even if the doc says they are negative. Many times a low positive will be stated to be negative, even if it is only one point into the positive it is positive. Also be sure to try the diet even if testing is negative. Relying...
  17. I believe the 2% still applies except when it comes to the 8 most common allergens. Companies do not have to disclose all the ingredients in a flavoring agent, coloring or spice mix, unfortunately this is where most celiacs run into problems for the most part due to malt. Barley and gluten are not in the allergin list and they do not need to be disclosed...
  18. And this is a good safe place to vent all you need. We all need to vent and it does not mean that you love them any less, and if teasing is something you guys have always done in a good natured way it doesn't mean they love you less. But if it does bother you it may be a good idea to sit down with them and tell them why.
  19. Have you been seeing improvement on the diet? It sounds like you have. Would you consider Enterolab testing? You do not have to go back on gluten for that. If you are firmly decided to do this please be aware that you can still have a false negative on the biopsies. Also if you have a problem with gluten the challenge may make you very, very sick...
  20. Any rude comments or ewhhh remarks went away after my kids and hubby were tested. They were all positive I then became the one to go to ask 'can I eat this, is this safe to use etc'. Testing of all family members is strongly encouraged because of the number of body systems that can be effected and the link to lymphomas and other nasty diseases. So...
  21. 15 years of severe illness and a medical background and lots of time for research will do that to you. Sometimes I do wonder what might have been if my education had not be cut short by illness but that doesn't stop me from researching and learning. The damage you speak of to the mucosal folds is consistent with celiac, if fact it was what caused the diagnosis...
  22. Just wanted to say I have problems with Coke also but not with the clear stuff like 7up. It does seem to be a clear gluten reaction so I steer clear but many do not have an issue. The best way for someone to tell if they do have a problem is the same as with any suspect food. Don't consume any for a couple of weeks then add in one or two a day for a week...
  23. I actually have some of that on hand so I may use that instead of the soymilk. I am still not sure I don't react to soy so I am trying not to overdo it. Thanks.
  24. What I would do is give them a smug and knowing look and say something like "You know this is genetic right? Well your time may come, and sooner than you think." This of course only applies if they are old enough to know what genes are. If they aren't I would try and enlist your parents in educating them or simply ignore them and take satisfaction in...
  25. Lister have you ever had a colonoscopic exam? You may have said but my addled brain would not remember. If so did they find diverticuli ? The location and description of things could be related to that especially if it has been previously found. With full blown diverticulitis, an inflammation of the diverticuli you would be running a fever and extremely...
