ARCHIVED Oral And Rectal Challenge Testing Of The Mucosa
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
They were pasted and I did not realize they would not open after pasting. I'll see if I can correct that. Thanks for posting the link to the other post. One real good reason for us to get this info out is it would be nice if US doctors knew about some of the less invasive forms of testing and hopefully if people ask their GI doctors about it and show... -
ARCHIVED Negitive Test
ravenwoodglass replied to mjackson3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would continue with the diet for another month or so at least and then if you are still in doubt you can do a short gluten challenge by eating something like cream or wheat or triscuits at least 3 times a day for a week or until your symptoms return. Celiac is often a delayed reaction so it could take up to a week, it is usually 3 days, for the reaction... -
ARCHIVED How Long Between Eating Gluten And Getting Dh ?
ravenwoodglass replied to GFinMN's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
The reaction to gluten in the form of DH is going to show up anywhere from an hour to 3 or four days after contact. The antibodies that cause the reaction take a long time to clear out of the skin. The least little bit of gluten will reactive the antibody response causing the sores to appear. After someone has been completely, strictly gluten-free for... -
ARCHIVED Oral And Rectal Challenge Testing Of The Mucosa
ravenwoodglass posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
There has been some recent debate on whether gluten is absorbed into the system through any mucosa other than the intestines. In the US mucosal testing is unheard of they would rather make us sick for weeks or months to do an expensive and inherently risky endo and biopsy. Other countrys have found that that torture may not be needed and that by using a... -

ARCHIVED Finally Feeling Better!
ravenwoodglass replied to Emily Elizabeth's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Your recipe sounds great and would be really nutritious too, I'll have to try it. For a storebought cereal if you can find Bakery On Main cereals they are really good and have a real low risk of CC as no wheat products are made in the facility. -
ARCHIVED Facial Moisturizers & Public Soap
ravenwoodglass replied to grey's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use either the Giovanni line, I like the 50/50 shampoo and the Smooth as Silk conditioner or Wegmans baby shampoo. I did just get a bottle of the Garneir conditioner and it came with a shampoo sample. I tried it yesterday and it does seem to be okay. It looked safe but if I haven't called I never want to say for sure unless I have tried it. I am glad... -
ARCHIVED Is This Possible
ravenwoodglass replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Have you actually had the difference measured? Did you ever have your bone age done prediagnosis? Not a test they usually do with adults but thought I would ask. Usually the growth plates have fused by at the most age 25 but anything IMHO is possible. My DS was diagnosed at 19 and is now 24. Unfortunately he is still 5 ft. It sure would be wonderful... -

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but please do not make the assumption that the people whose opinions differ from yours are 'housewives' (the inference is obvious that you think that means uneducated). There are many on the board with substantial education and degrees. They may however choose to keep that to themselves. Most of us come here... -
ARCHIVED Facial Moisturizers & Public Soap
ravenwoodglass replied to grey's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Your Oil of Olay is most likely not gluten-free. I called the company a short time ago a was told that only the lotion that was for sensitive skin with no perfumes was safe. I use the Garneir line with the bright green bottles, that is all gluten-free but I am not sure about the hair products. I just checked on the skin stuff. I use the daily lotion,... -
ARCHIVED My 11 Month Old Daughter's Test Results
ravenwoodglass replied to emmyl21's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am glad to hear that you are doing all you can to figure this out. I would continue with your plan to make yourself gluten-free to see if that helps. One quick note on the refusal to eat that may not apply but since it could I will mention it. The antibody response that occurs with gluten can in some cases effect the salivary glands. When this occurs... -
ARCHIVED Emeril's Smooth Honey Mustard
ravenwoodglass replied to buffettbride's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
For many they are safe just as with alcohol but there are some of us who will have a gluten reaction. The best way to determine if something is tolerated is to add it to your diet for a week when you are symptom free and not consuming anything else that is new. Eat some everyday and if you are not having any gluten symptoms after a week (they can be delayed... -
ARCHIVED Gi Visit This Morning
ravenwoodglass replied to Hollylou42's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
One thing is crucial and that is that the barium they give you is gluten free. Many are not so you really need to stress this. The stuff is get downable but if you have a problem with gluten and it is not gluten-free it will make you sick. This test will not be useful at all for celiac diagnosis an endo and if you are already gluten-free at least 2 or... -
ARCHIVED What Are Your Favorite Gluten Free Products?
ravenwoodglass replied to momandgirls's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Kinnikinick bread and hamburger rolls and EnerG crackers Bakery on Main Cereal These are my 3 couldn't live without them gluten-free foods, at least while I could still have corn. Kinnikinick breads, the italian and rolls are corn free also though in addition to being gluten-free. The Ener-G crackers are corn based but they are the best. I used... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Results Are Back...this Is Hilarious!
ravenwoodglass replied to anerissara's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I want to thank everyone that posted info on the pepto. It has worked for me even when all the strong meds haven't, for pain at least. Perhaps now I know why and the next time I have a colitis flare (or ?diverticulitis? my exGI has never done colonic biopsies even with swelling so bad he couldn't finish the scope) I think I will try it, previously I have... -
Folks are quite right about the dietian issue, you probally know more about celiac than they do by now. This site and the one by the celiac sprue association have been the most helpful to me. Ask all the questions you need to and know you are not alone. It is hard at first but it is so worth it in the long run. I have provided a link to the celiac sprue...

I wish I had some good advice for you. I too have had problems with GERD and at nowhere near the troubles you have had and it was awful. I do know that out of all the meds they prescribed, and many were the ones you list, all I ever got relief from was pepto bismal and being gluten free. I wish I could do something to help and I hope you are able to get...

ARCHIVED My 11 Month Old Daughter's Test Results
ravenwoodglass replied to emmyl21's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think you are making a very wise choice. It certainly will not hurt either you or her. Tests on children less than four have an even higher risk of being a false negative than they do for older folks. In countries that test routinely, in all even asymptomatic, usually the first test is done at age 4 and then again around puberty because of the large... -
ARCHIVED Iron Od Possiblity?
ravenwoodglass replied to SunnyDyRain's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Too much iron can be very dangerous. It can build up in the liver and in other organs. That said If you are still having your period and are not taking any other iron containing supplements these should not hurt you at the level you are taking them. If you are only taking 2 of the 4 that are required that is just a bit above the 150% mark for the FDA requirement... -
ARCHIVED Elevated B12- What Does This Mean
ravenwoodglass replied to jesscarmel's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Don't be scared but do ask your doctor if you are not taking supplements. If you are taking them you may want stop for a couple of months and then retest the levels. If they have gone down substantially you can restart the supplements. Your intestines may have healed enough for you to be able to "absorb" B12 again and build up the stores your body needs... -
ARCHIVED Can You Trace Celiac Through Your Family Tree?
ravenwoodglass replied to ItchyMeredith's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I believe celiac is much, much more prevelant than is thought. My families history speaks to that. Both my mother and my twin were both clearly celiac. My Mom lived on toast and tea, the old school 'cures' for tummy ills, was always tired and in pain and died of cancer at 56. My brother had his immune system turn on his liver in childhood and the... -
Night time leg cramps can be due to a low level of magnesium and potassium. You could try supplements or just add at least a banana a day to your diet. If this is more of a nerve type pain, generally a burning sensation with or without pins and needles make sure you are keeping up with your sublingual B12 tablets that can also help.

ARCHIVED My Daughter Tested Negative
ravenwoodglass replied to Jo.R's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Please give the diet a shot for a couple of months. The blood tests especially in children are notorious for being a false negative. Relying on blood tests alone has taken years from my life that I can never get back and has also resulted in some serious neuro problems that will be with me now forever. The diet is the true test and will not mask any other... -
ARCHIVED Bakery On Main Granola

The rainforest was my favorite. I even tried grinding it up and adding it to cookie crumbs for a cheesecake crust, yum.
