  1. I always wondered why I would get drunk off of alcohol free beer and a whopper of a hangover too. We have a couple gluten free beers here and I can actually drink 3 and still walk straight and feel great the next day. My DH who is also celiac got pulled over one night and taken to the drunk tank. He had half a beer an hour before. The cops couldn't believe...
  2. I am glad your doctor had enough sense to tell you that even though you don't have one of the two recognized celiac genes he would still consider you to be celiac. Not all the genes for celiac disease have been found and you may carry a gene that is a celiac gene in another country but not here. I am an example of that. Here I am considered gluten intolerant...
  3. Actually he was horrible. I had to fight to get my daughter's endo and he miss diagnosed me for over 5 years when I was horribly sick with D night and day. All because my blood work didn't show up positive. An allergist (MD)was the one who really diagnosed me with an elimination diet after years of toxic meds to control my IBD/IBS, arthritis, migraines...
  4. Toni, You may also want to look for Gluten Free Pantry French Bread Mix if Fluffy is what your looking for. I don't remember if they have soy or not but I don't think so. That is also a mix but you can make a nice deep dish pizza crust that is soft and 'fluffy' as it contains yeast. I have even gluten eaters that have tried The GFP mix and not known it...
  5. He is just too cute, what is he? I am sure he will help you smile a bit during your recovery, which I hope is swift.
  6. Sure it would be possible you might even be able to go with something like 2 to 3 day post if you used a vacuum form of wraping. You might want to think of parbaking breads and rolls so folks would finish them up in the oven. That would make them seem fresh baked good.
  7. Boy does that all sound familiar. After I was finally diagnosed my GYN told me my periods might start back up again, it had been too long for me though. Just be aware it can happen and don't panic if it does. I do know my other thought to be menapause related issues also went away along with a lot of other stuff when I went gluten free. It sounds like...
  8. Don't assume that. I was dependant on canes and no reflexes and nerve related incontinence by the time I was finally diagnosed. I am one of the many lucky ones who don't show up in blood work. I was in incrediblly bad shape. The recovery from the pain and tingling was actually pretty quick on the diet and in the last 5 years I have progressed to being...
  9. I use a gluten free diet and a sublingual B12. The sublingual is important. I had PN for many many years along with other nerve damage. Most of the problems have gone into remission since my celiac diagnosis but I got considerable relief from the numbness, tingling and burning before diagnosis with sublingual (dissolves under the tongue) B12 supplements...
  10. Although this is written for a Mom who is breast feeding a baby with colic it does give a good description of an elimination diet. The only difference is that the symptoms will be yours. It is identical to the diet my allergist put me on before I was diagnosed. "This is a diet that Martha recommends in her lactation-counseling practice whenever she...
  11. I just wanted to note that EE is a common finding for us before the villi are totally destroyed. It was found on my DD endoscopy and after this finding our GI was smart enough to tell us to get her off of gluten because villi damage could have been missed. He also said with a smile that she could continue eating gluten if she wanted until she got to the...
  12. A derma needs to do the biopsy, many US GI don't even know about the skin or neuro effects of gluten. Your doctor is totally wrong about intolerance not leading to other problems. There are some who realize that intolerance can be present for years before celaic is found on GI biopsy. The biopsies are very hit and miss and although they can definately...
  13. I got this info by googling the name of the product and the word gluten. Amazon has them and there they state they are gluten free. "Tremendous care and skill are used to grow our crops the old-fashioned way. Organic farmers utilize natural materials that build rich, fertile soil. Made In Nature is pleased to bring you delicious, certified organic...
  14. For some of us the relief from the D comes pretty quickly. For myself I had relief within about a week. My gas and gurgling stomach were gone soon after. One thing that helps speed healing along is avoiding all dairy at first, the villi that are damaged by celaic are also needed to form the enzyme to digest lactose. Many of us can add dairy back in within...
  15. You could see a dermatologist for confirmation of DH, he would biopsy the area near the outbreak to look for the antibodies in the skin. There are other skin problems that are also seen with celiac disease other than just DH though. If your doctor has told you that you are gluten intolerant then you need to avoid gluten just as strictly as someone who has...
  16. I quite agree. I sometimes add a bit of yeast to the dough when doing those or pizza crusts. Now if I could only find a replacement for phyllo. (sigh) I sure do miss my baklava and spanikopita, even if I can't spell them.
  17. Nothing like planning ahead That could be a great experience for a kid as long as he could live at home while doing it.
  18. Yes and you can also have celiac and not show up in blood work at all. I didn't and that delayed my diagnosis by years. My DH was only one point into the positive level but he went strictly gluten-free and was really shocked at how many things that he didn't think were gluten related went away. He didn't think he even had GI symptoms till they were gone...
  19. I don't know if your Wegmans has them but mine carrys the Chebe Mixes. The plain and the garlic ones are the ones I have tried. They are a really simple mix and I like the garlic stick one for coating chicken and fish before frying. I dont think they make a ready made crust though. My son likes the Ener-g ones that are ready made but I haven't tried them...
  20. They were positive for two out of the three tests. If you are not on the diet already I would give it a strict try for a few months.
  21. So glad everything went well and that you will be together at home soon. Enjoy a good nights sleep tonight, they may be hard to come by for a bit. Don't be concerned about not feeling as close as you thought you would, that will come in time. After all you don't really know each other yet. Wait til the first time he lights up when you walk in the room...
  22. If you have a kid's club like the Boys and Girls club you could donate it for their 'reward' cupboard. Many keep a cache of small toys, stuffed animals and such for the kids to chose stuff for their own good behavior, study habits, grades etc or as gifts for others.
  23. How about at your next scheduled appointment you tell him that you did a gluten challenge and it was positive, you may want to list the symptoms you are having in great detail and then you tell him that you have decided to do the gluten free diet as a result of this positive challenge and dietary response. Then you tell him that the diet has cleared up ...
  24. Carlas suggestion of a trainer is a good one, another route if you have any joint pain or muscle issues that your doctor is aware of is to see if you can get a referral to a physical therapist. They can be great at helping to target muscle groups and if you have any muscle pain or weakness, (don't know if you do or not) they can show you excercises that...
  25. If you have DH you have celiac, period, whether you have gotten to the point of having villi damage or not. For some with DH it can take many years for the GI stuff to be more than a bit of an annoyance but that does not mean that gluten is not impacting your brain, muscles and joints, liver, gallbladder, and many other body systems. I wish my DH had been...
