ARCHIVED Doritos Natural White Nacho Cheese
ravenwoodglass replied to Buttercup's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Are they made in a dedicated facility? That is the only way I would risk them so I hope the answer is yes. -
ARCHIVED I'm Frustrated With Self-diagnosis
ravenwoodglass replied to Trillian's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Whether it is 'celiac' or gluten intolerance is really a moot point. Technically I am considered gluten intolerant because I lack the US recognized genes for celiac. If you take a look at my signature you will clearly see that my 'gluten intolerance' lead to some pretty nasty diseases and I don't even have some of them listed. Whether you are celiac or... -
Get some hemp milk, the vanilla is really good on cereal and the chocolate is great also. You could have had a good filling breakfast on the go if you had added a banana or another fruit to it. For snacks get some gluten free pretzels or just mix gluten-free raisens, gluten-free choc chips, nuts, sunflower seeds, dried fruit etc in a little baggie and bring...

ARCHIVED Breastfeeding And Alcohol
ravenwoodglass replied to Guhlia's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Can you go out with the girls and not drink? That would be best but when I was breastfeeding my son his pediatrician allowed me one glass of wine while I was breastfeeding to relax. I was told not to drink more than that. How long it would take for the alcohol to leave your system has a lot of variables to it, like your weight, sex, condition of your liver... -
ARCHIVED Coke Products?
ravenwoodglass replied to suzimarie06's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
They are considered gluten free but the company uses the codex standard. My DS and I also react like a gluten reaction from the carmel coloring. We have no problems with the clear sodas. The best way to decide if they are safe for you is to drink them for a few days while consuming nothing else that is questionable. -
I get this also but only when glutened. I have intolerances to dairy and soy and just did a stupid little challenge yesterday that left me on the throne for quite a while. No burn effect at all. In my case I think it is a DH type reaction and will occur for two or three days after a glutening.

ARCHIVED Sanitary Napkins/pads
ravenwoodglass replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have DH. I would not even consider this product for a minute. The problem for me has always been with scented products and I will say I have never used this brand, however I will get nasty uncomfortable blisters from gluten contact with my mucous membranes and think you are wise to consider this. I use unscented liners and such with no problems. You... -
ARCHIVED Movie Theater Popcorn?
ravenwoodglass replied to JennyC's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would not risk it. If you can get them to show you the ingredients of the popcorn, the oil they use for it, and the stuff they sprinkle on then maybe you can tell. But I doubt it. I used to work at a theater years ago and the stuff they use to make the popcorn is so full of chemicals that even if it is gluten free it is far from healthy. We usually... -
ARCHIVED So Excited To Get Allergy Testing !
ravenwoodglass replied to keylimepie's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My arthrits was worst in my hands, hips, knees and back. The most obvious damage was done to my hands with deformities to the knuckles and joints in the fingers. The deformity is of course still there but I have no pain anymore and the progression has stopped completely. I also have problems with the sun, or I have previously, I worked in my garden for... -
ARCHIVED Urine Creatine, Any Opinions/experiences
ravenwoodglass replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think, I am not a doctor, that this is showing an impact on your kidneys. This is not unusual for celiac people that are not on the gluten free diet. Your other testing also points that way. Are you gluten free yet? I can tell you, unfortunately from personal experience that the tests are not as accurate as we would like. I was misdiagnosed for over... -
ARCHIVED Testing Question
ravenwoodglass replied to Yellow Rose's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If he really needs something on paper to be totally compliant he could think about doing antibody testing with Enterolab. He would not need to eat gluten for the testing and they can also test for casien, soy, egg and yeast antibodies if there is felt to be a need. -
ARCHIVED I'm Frustrated With Self-diagnosis
ravenwoodglass replied to Trillian's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think the confusion is because of the terms he used. What you have done is an elimination and a challenge. The elimination resulted in a resolution of your symptoms and the challenge made them reoccur or get worse. This really is a valid form of diagnosing a problem with gluten especially when lab tests confirm malabsorption, anemia and osteoporosis... -
ARCHIVED Wheat Allergy Vs. Celiac Disease - Exclude Each Other?
ravenwoodglass replied to woollymonkey's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Are you eliminating gluten or just wheat? You need to avoid wheat, rye, barley and oats. The rash may be a DH reaction if you are only eliminating wheat. As stated you can have both an allergy and celiac. If the rash is hives, large mosquito bite looking itchies it may be an allergy, if the rash is small and/or has blisters that would be more indicitive... -
ARCHIVED Nutella
ravenwoodglass replied to Annaem's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I did a search, it was discussed a short time ago here and if you google it by typing in the name and the word gluten it is mentioned on a lot of web sites. When I was first diagnosed I was able to find it also in gluten free markets but I now get it at wegmans. -
ARCHIVED So Excited To Get Allergy Testing !
ravenwoodglass replied to keylimepie's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Glad to hear you are going to give the diet a try. Please bear in mind that the allergy testing WILL NOT give you any answers as to celiac. It will tell you if you have an allergy but it will not tell you if you are having an intolerance reaction. I was diagnosed by an allergist, MD not naturopath, he did the skin testing then put me on an elimination... -
ARCHIVED So Excited To Get Allergy Testing !
ravenwoodglass replied to keylimepie's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Sometimes a pharmacist can tell you, sometimes you can get the info from gluten free lists on line, sometimes if you post someone else will have checked. Your regular GP can order a celiac blood panel for you if you are still eating gluten. Which I am assuming you are by saying you are going to wait till after Thanksgiving. I was diagnosed on Nov 20th... -
ARCHIVED My Dermatologist Is Not Sure What It Is, But I Think It's Dh
ravenwoodglass replied to l-lyn01's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Your description sounds very much like my adult DH presentation. You really need to take that step and go forward with the diet strictly. Occasional runs, headaches and such are a reaction and although they are limited at this point a great deal of damage can still be done. Fortunately your body is giving you a wakeup call with DH and not with a lymphoma... -
ARCHIVED So Excited To Get Allergy Testing !
ravenwoodglass replied to keylimepie's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
This is only my opinion mind you but if I was going to spend $400 and I had a positive gluten response and I knew eliminating it made me feel better I would cancel the allergist appointment for now and contact enterolab. They do stool testing for antibodies which can be more accurate than blood testing. They can also check for the genes for gluten intolerance... -
ARCHIVED Test Results - Help - I Need The Gluten Smartie Police
ravenwoodglass replied to jmd3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would interpret this as saying: "Tell patient he has a genes found in people + celiac disease (gluten allergy)" We found the gene and also the antibody reaction. This: "However, it can be found in the normal population as well" Or in forms of illness that we don't yet recognize as gluten induced. and this: "If having diarrhea or... -
ARCHIVED Nutella
ravenwoodglass replied to Annaem's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes it is. -
I can't answer for others but I had a severe reaction to a tincture given me by a naturopath. Many others may be able to use these without a problem. I had been gluten-free for 4 years before I took the stuff and I clearly had a gluten reaction complete with an outbreak of DH within hours of injestion. I also checked myself the stuff he gave me on my next...

ARCHIVED This Forum Has Helped Me Immensely!
ravenwoodglass replied to Desertdweller's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the boards. Sounds like you are already diagnosed to me. Be prepared because your doctors when you go for that official diagnosis are going to do one of two things. They will either blood test and endo you without a challenge which will lead to a false negative, or they will insist you poison yourself for three months then blood test and endo... -
ARCHIVED Gi Doc Said Dont Need To Eat Gluten For Blood Test?
ravenwoodglass replied to tbradley93's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The endo may be the gold standard for diagnosis but it is not as accurate as you think. The endo and blood tests can tell you that you definately have full blown celiac but they can not rule it out if they are negative. Also many GI do not recognize the many forms of damage that are seen before you get to the point where you are almost dead. I have actually... -
ARCHIVED So Excited To Get Allergy Testing !
ravenwoodglass replied to keylimepie's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
As mentioned a dietary elimination and challenge is a valid way of diagnosing gluten intolerance. You can also go through enterolab for testing and you do not have to be eating the offending foods. For true allergy testing you do not have to be eating the offending substance, the way many test for true allergies is by injecting small amounts of the allergin... -
ARCHIVED How Do I Know When To Avoid These Items?
ravenwoodglass replied to dsaltzm's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Everyone has different tolerances. Although many repeatedly say that alcohol and vinager are safe that is not true for everyone. The best way to tell if you tolerate these items is to wait to try until you are symptom free and then add them for 5 days straight one at a time and watch for a reaction. The celiac sprue association has the best guidelines...
