  1. I have been looking at the ingredients of the dry foods by this company, they may be wheat free but they are not gluten free. Every one I looked at even the lamb and rice has barley in it. I go with the INNOVA brand that someone else mentioned and my pets are much happier and no more mystery glutenings.
  2. Soy was the final piece of the puzzle for me. My ataxia which had improved greatly gluten free is now totally gone. I found eliminating soy harder than gluten, I never realized it was in so much. I am older and amazed at how much soy is in our foods. When I was growing up it was in almost nothing.
  3. Many of us go through a withdrawl that can last up to a month. Hang in there and as advised cutting soy and dairy will help also. You can add them back in carefully when your symptoms resolve. Make sure you check all your meds, script and OTC, the labeling laws do not apply to drugs of any kind. Go with naturally gluten free food at first and stay out...
  4. You are showing a positive reaction to the challenge. That is diagnostic for more intelligent doctors. Your body liked being gluten-free and now it is showing you how much it liked it. Many of us have C for years as the body tries desperately to draw nutrients into our system through an intestine that is not functioning normally. Eventually your intestines...
  5. If this is the only reason you are doing an endo it is not a good one. Endo's are not perfect and they can conclusively tell you that you have enough damage for the celiac label but they can not definately say you don't have it. The long term damage from gluten intolerance is just as bad as the damage that true biopsy proven celiac is. You need to listen...
  6. I do so hope that your doctor has stressed to you the diseases that not being totally gluten free lead up to. With your being so anemic you really need to be strict with the diet. I know it is hard but your life may depend on it. Please revisit the idea that the diet is too hard, it may be hard to get used but your life depends on it. Ignored celiac and...
  7. You want to be very gentle with your system right now. It is going to take a while for you to heal but hopefully you will start feeling a diffeence soon. If you have not dropped dairy from your diet please do so for at least a couple of months. As sick as you were you most likely are not able to digest it either. For now stick with pure naturally gluten...
  8. Yes those itchy little bumps are most likely a skin reaction. If your reaction gets very severe make sure you call that GI immediately. Especially if you get a GI bleed. My challenge caused a very severe reaction, yours may not, you may just live in misery for the next three weeks and a few after the test. The dietary challenge and a positive reaction...
  9. I agree with this statement. I was under the IBS shroud for years, and years, and years. Since becoming 'really' gluten free no matter what stress I am under it does not effect my bowel function. Foods sure do though. In my case IBS stands for 'I Be Stupid' for listening to all the doctors who told me for years that I just have IBS, here have a prozac...
  10. I would highly suspect you got glutened at your friends house. We should never eat premarinated meats from the store unless you can get the ingredients of the marinade. DO NOT just increase the amount of throid meds you take without talking to your doctor first. For one thing if you have recently gone gluten free and you have been glutened that can cause...
  11. I don't have much to add other than the opinion that your doctor is an idiot or woefully ignorant as far as celiac is concerned. He does not appear to have really listened to your symptoms, your dietary results and the results of the challenges you have done. You need to.
  12. You are never 'cured' of celiac, it is a genetic difference, but you can live a healthy, energetic and painless life with it. If you follow the diet strictly that will relieve your symptoms and help prevent other autoimmune issues from forming. As was mentioned you need to avoid all gluten not just wheat. It sounds like you have gotten a good result from...
  13. "I don't feel like I need an official diagnosis anymore, but I am concerned that if it is really celiac that I have and not just gluten intolerent, should I be concerned about my kids having celiac? My kids are 15, 13 and 11 (I have 2 step kids too if you read my other posts that say I have 5 kids ) My 15 year old daughter started having stomach problems...
  14. Barbara the first is a sign of inflammation and can be seen in a variety of GI problems the second is a finding consistant with a celiac diagnosis.
  15. I would skip the preglazed. Glazes are really easy to make yourself. I just throw together brown sugar and gluten-free mustard and heat until the sugar dissolves. Sometimes I will add pineapple juice. Then I just baste the fresh ham with that. There are lots of easy glaze recipes around.
  16. I would be inclined to agree with that. It can either be spread out with random little blisters or can resemble poison ivy or a contact dermatits in that it can have blisters really close. I have had them both ways. Gluten intolerance can also cause various kinds of excema and other skin problems. It can take up to 2 years gluten free for the antibodies...
  17. When you do be sure to take a picture. I have no doubt they will be sitting there in all their glory. I tried those once and would rather have eaten the box they came in, at least that would have tasted a bit better.
  18. Sandy a baseline would be ideal. If you have been breaking bones it would be needed without a doubt but if you haven't waiting for a scan may not be the end of the world. If there is no way to get a baseline scan then at least do what you can to strengthen the bones until you can. Get a good supplement for calcium and vitamin D and make sure you get a...
  19. Thanks for letting us know what has at last worked for you. May I suggest that in addition to the oral B's that you are taking add in a sublingual (dissolves under the tongue) B12. Your doctor should have told you to get some the day you were diagnosed. If he had the sores would have most likely been gone in a month rather than 3 years.
  20. It is time to make your own family Thanksgiving. I would eat the big meal at home and visit after dinner with a dessert, if at all. The safety of you and yours is much more important than keeping the in-laws happy, IMHO. If the family throws a fit perhaps you could suggest that if they want to insist then they can have the kids for the post meal, puking...
  21. Me also, I have hair fall out and DH sores from scalp contact. I recently found a haircolor called Herbatint. It is gluten free and natural. I have good luck with it. I get it at my local health food store and at Wegmans. What I like best is that you mix in a bowl and with short hair you can get more than one application from the box.
  22. If you microwave it you might be able to choke it down. My DS actually likes the stuff. I vote for the Kinnikinnick myself.
  23. It does sound like DH. You may want to just try being really gluten free for a bit and I bet the problem along with your IBS will resolve totally. You should also be careful of gluten ingredients in your lotions, soaps and such. We usually need to eliminate it from them also to stop the antibody reaction.
  24. Hi Del, That area is a common site for discomfort perhaps because it is an area where the large intestine takes a sharp turn. The pain we get can be felt in a lot of different places for a lot of different reasons. If this is something new and it gets severe or if you have a fever and chills you should get it checked out. Have you had a colonoscopy? ...
  25. First you can not use your bread machine for gluten free breads if it has had gluten breads baked in it. Give it to a freind and get a new one or just get a couple of pans. For a good ready made bread I prefer Kinnikinnick, they make an Italian and also a brown rice, frozen pizza shells that are really good and hamburger and hot dog buns. Always remember...
