  1. This may or may not work for you but when celiac took away my ability to work outside the home I was able to keep us off the dole by selling on Ebay. I started just checking out the thrift stores and second hand shops around my small town. I looked for knicknacks, dolls, clothing in good shape, books etc. It does not cost much to list stuff and it can...
  2. Deb you may know this already but this is from the Topamax web site, it can CAUSE PN symptoms: (The bold is mine) TOPAMAX is approved for migraine prevention in adults only. TOPAMAX is not used to stop a migraine after it starts. IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION Serious risks associated with TOPAMAX include lowered bicarbonate levels in the blood resulting...
  3. I would definately test the whole family and I second the vote for Enterolab. We had the whole family tested after my diagnosis, all showed positive on conventional testing but it was a low positive and one of us was told the positive was negative until we got our hands on the test itself and saw that the result was into the positive range. The doctor just...
  4. Your results from enterolab show a clear antibody reaction to gluten plus a celiac gene. The term reactive gastropathy means that your GI system is reacting to something that is destroying it. In light of the fact that he was able to see visible damage I would go under the assumption that the biopsy was a false negative. With your enterolab results, the...
  5. I have been gluten-free 5 years as of the 20th of this month. I don't get as sick as I did during the first year but it still hits me very hard. I do seem to recover more quickly than I did at first though. My DH is a different story though, after about a year and a half gluten free my lesions lessoned a lot. At first even a small amount would cause breakouts...
  6. I recently found Kirks Natural Castile soaps and ordered their shampoo and conditioner on line. It is free of gluten and soy. (Soy also makes my head itch). I have also used Dove and Suave, they clearly label gluten. For a deep treatment I use either olive or coconut oil, warm it and then work a small amount through my dry hair. Sometimes I will use...
  7. You can have celiac and not have any come out positive. Since you have had your biopsy you can go ahead and give the diet a try. Regardless of the outcome of the biopsy you should give the diet a good try for at least 3 months.
  8. There are actually quite a few, these are some of the ones mentioned most often that will clearly label gluten ingredients, Dove Suave Giovanni Kirks Naturals Castile- also soy free and the one I use
  9. No it is not okay, this drug has some pretty serious adverse effects connected with it even for you: This is from the PREMA-EU web site, "The main adverse effects of dapsone are: 1. haemotoxicity ( e.g. methaemoglobinemia, haemolysis, agranulocytosis) 2. hypersensitvity ( e.g. dapsone hypersensitivity syndrome and erythematous reactions: dermatitis...
  10. I guess I worded that badly, what it means is that the gene test is not effected if you are not eating gluten. I didn't want the poster to think she has to do a challenge if already gluten free.
  11. Yea it sure does sometimes. (((((((hugs)))))))) Make sure you check out the section on 'other intolerances'. There are a lot of us that suffer from multiple intolerances and they may have some good advice for you.

    ARCHIVED Stupid Doctor

What a very special and wonderful boy. I hope he does have four but one at least should be a girl. You are indeed a blessed family.
  13. Have you recently turned on your heat? Do you have a carbon monoxide detector or can you borrow one? This sounds a lot like carbon monoxide. Could be the milk before bed but better safe than sorry so I figured it should be mentioned.
  14. OOOOOOOH, fifty pounds of chocolate that is soy free!!!!!!!!!!!! I am in heaven, or I will be when I order it and it arrives. Emmm chocolate chips in banana bread, and muffins and sprinkled on cereal and ... can you tell I have missed chocolate chips
  15. This is serious but try not to freak out to much. The doctors have caught it and you should be fine after your surgery. I don't think that this would be highly unusual. Celiac can cause some nasty damage and sometimes when scar tissue forms over and over again it can form a stricture or a narrowing. I have had severe adhesions which are the same sort...
  16. I usually take asprin rather than tylenol because it helps with inflammation. Hot baths also help a great deal and for me cutting out soy made an incredible difference. When my arthritis was still active I used a hot parafin bath for my hands that also helped ease things a great deal and made my hands soft also.
  17. Sounds like your allergist is pretty savvy. Hopefully she told you that whether or not your eating gluten will not effect the gene test. I am not surprised by the reaction you had to the Elavil, many of us have bad effects on psychotropic meds. My migraines were controlled completely by the gluten-free diet. Have you started it yet? Hopefully between...
  18. Thank you for the update, I was very happy to hear this. I hope he continues to improve things were pretty rough for you all for quite a while.
  19. I wish I could explain that one also. I am of the opinion that both are just as serious and life altering. Where you live can also determine whether you are gluten intolerant or celiac. Here in the US I am considered gluten intolerant, I carry a double DQ9, however my presentation was definately the same as someone with gene determined celaic disease....
  20. I think her presentation is familiar to a lot of us. She will very likely start to have her period soon but if she has not by the time she has been gluten-free for 6 months then they should start looking for other causes. Some of her symptoms in this area do sound a bit like PCOS (polycystic ovary disease) but I would wait for more testing to see if being...
  21. Perhaps some weak peppermint tea might help if she can't do artificial ingredients that might be the safest way to go. She could do a few sips at a time and see if it helps. I wish they didn't think they had to artificially color and flavor so many things it makes it really hard. Hopefully the gluten free diet will help her soon and you won't need to search...
  22. I think the issue is more if the damage can be permanent, if something is effecting the chemical balance in your brain or causing it to form 'scar' tissue then perhaps some damage could be permanent. I would avoid anything that caused a brain fog to be on the safe side. For some of us the intolerances to other substances will improve after we have had a...
  23. I would check them to be on the safe side but I get around this issue by spraying after I am dressed and only on my clothing. I then wash my hands well and I have never had an issue doing this and I am extremely sensitive.
  24. Personally I would pitch the Tums and grab some pepto. Is there a phone number on the pack you could call? I can never remember which is safe and which isn't and since they can change formulas whenever they want I avoid them altogether.
  25. If you are already on the diet a GI doctor is going to want to do an endo and he is going to want you to do a gluten challenge. For that to be effective it needs to be about three months long. Thats 3 months of eating something that you know already is making you sick. You have had a good response on the diet, the only treatment is the diet, you never want...
