  1. You could be sensitive to something else in the salsa, as stated it 'should' be gluten-free. You may want to call the company just to check for sure. What did you use to season the meat? Many of the packaged seasonings are not safe, some are, I don't use them any more so don't know specific brands. Also the taco shells would be suspect if they are not...
  2. First your fasting sugar was not that out of line. Make sure your doctor does not push you onto diabetes meds at this point. It does not sound like he gave you much advice other than the finger sticking. You may want to watch your consumption of high fructose corn syrup, just cutting out sodas brought my levels back to normal. I was diagnosed with diabetes...
  3. I agree totally with Ursa. He needs to try the diet strictly for at least a couple of months. It is not unusual for the damage to either be in areas not accessable to the scope, or he could be 'lucky' and not have enough damage yet for the biopsies to be totally conclusive. You may also find it beneficial to get a copy of your biopsy report. This should...
  4. I know it is hard to wait for a biopsy report. If the doctor was able to see changes with the aid of only the scope chances are there will be definate changes seen in the biopsy if the doctor took enough of them and if they were taken from a place being actively affected. There are times when the biopsy will show an inconclusive or even a false negative...
  5. That must have been very disconcerting to you. I don't know if you will ever find out but the person who called '911' did it because they were seriously concerned for you. It may not even have had anything to do with the board. If you live with others it is very difficult to hide the amount of mental pain someone is in, also most college dorms or sororities...
  6. I am glad to hear he is doing better. Prayers will continue for your family.
  7. So glad to hear you were at last able to get an appointment. It is quite a process but for me it was a lifesaver. I hope it helps you as much as it did me. It was the way I was finally diagnosed so I am a firm believer in the elimination process. Please hang in there and I hope you are getting some relief soon.
  8. I agree with this completely. You may have to call a couple to find one who can do an elimination diet many nowadays only want to deal with allergy shots but they can be found. The receptionist will most likely know if the doctor does food allergy and elimination so you don't have to waste your time and money with one who won't. I know how tempting...
  9. I hope they figure things out soon and are able to help him. I will be praying for him and for your family.
  10. I deal with this also. I up my vitamins when it happens. One thing I wanted to mention is Do NOT use Rogaine without seeing if they have changed the formula. It has had wheat in it. I know the Mens is on the NIH's 'hidden gluten' list and don't know for sure if the womens is too so be sure to check.
  11. They do say on their website that they are gluten free also, but now-a-days with the labeling laws and especially when new to the diet and healing it is good to ask. You could also be sensitive to something else that is in it. Smooties are quick and easy to make if you discover by eliminateing the Bolthouse and then adding them back in a couple weeks...
  12. Just another voice saying the same thing. In addition the positive numbers do not always corelate to the degree of illness. Someone who shows only a 1 point positive may be sicker than someone who shows a 40. Different people have different systems effected, some are much more obvious like the tummy problems but for example with the neuro issues folks...
  13. My first question would be are the rice cakes labeled gluten-free? Mny like the Quaker ones are not safe. Also what brand of cracker were they? I am asking because of my experience, which may not be yours of course. I used to use the Ener-g ones and loved them. I did seem to react to them, hives and finger swelling (I have arthritis that is in remission...
  14. The problem with the smoothies is that right now your digestive system can not absorb B12 through your intestines. You also have mentioned you drink a lot of them. You may want to cut them out for at least week or two if they have any dairy in them. You also may want to call the company and ask if they are gluten free by ingredients or gluten free by government...
  15. Not worth the risk to me. How about just getting a bottle of wine and adding a gluten-free soda or seltzer water?
  16. Hi Janet, The not having known and having doctors not even think to test for celiac even when my DS and I both were classic cases still makes me so angry. I know what you mean about your son, I could not believe the difference in mine. A few months after he went gluten-free he came to me and said he felt happy, he had never felt that way before. I...
  17. Hello and welcome, you have come to a great place for info and also for support. I am so glad that this was found early in you. My family wasn't so lucky as you can tell by my signature. The best way to start and heal the quickest on the gluten free diet is to try and eat as much whole unprocessed food as you can. Go with fresh meats, fish and chicken...
  18. I am intolerant to gluten, dairy and soy. Kind of lets out most all protein powders until I discovered Hemp Protein Powder and Hemp Milk. I put the powder into baked goods and smoothies and use the milk as a dairy replacement. I personally thought the powder in a shake by itself was nasty but with fruit and stuff added was really palateable.
  19. I would think about going for guidance to the person who oversees your sorority activities. Or perhaps your college dean. Another place that many forget about is the library, talk to some of the librarians and ask them where would be best to go for advice on starting things up. If you have a medical center or hospital they may have some interest also...
  20. Fabulous news!!!!!! May you have many more bright days ahead.
  21. I have to agree with the other posters who have said that you are already diagnosed. If after a while on the gluten-free diet you have not had any relief then perhaps I would do the endo. You also would be needing to actively be consuming gluten for about three months if you have been gluten free for a while. For now I would do the diet strictly for...
  22. Inflammation and some changes in cells can indicate celiac. When my DD had her biopsies done they found inflammation and what the GI doctor called early celiac changes in her mucosal lining. While I can not of course tell you with certainty that that is what was found in your biopsies it is a common finding for us. As for the Chrons issue, it is highly...
  23. When I get a good glutening I get this also. I have DH and the passing of my urine and my feces will cause DH sores in those areas. For me it makes peeing painful and my rear end very itchy and swollen. I haven't found anything that relieves this except time and the clearance of the gluten antibodies. Drinking a lot of water helps a little bit if I know...
  24. Your story and symptoms and the progression you have so far seen are going to be familiar to a lot us. I have to agree with Tom, I would try the diet strictly for a while and see if it helps. Blood tests and endoscopies can give false negatives. Your body will tell you clearly though, in most cases, after you have been off it for a while and then challenge...
  25. Perhaps because I was so ill by the time I was diagnosed I was actually happy to finally know what was wrong with me. My anger and hate are reserved for the mainstream food companies that hide the stuff in so many things, soy also. We really did fine for thousands of years without having the addictive substances in everything. And also for the doctors...
