ARCHIVED Before Going gluten-free Was Anyone Else Always Hungry?
ravenwoodglass replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes, and yes it will stop once you are gluten free. I had lots of symptoms but my DH had almost none, or so he thought. There were a lot of things that went away for him gluten-free and he also lost some weight with almost no effort. It's nice to be around a guy whos not burping and passing wind all the time anymore. You are also setting yourself... -
ARCHIVED Sharp Pain In My Breast Bone Area
ravenwoodglass replied to myserenityprayer's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Are you absolutely positive that the GasX is gluten-free? There are unfortunately many 'tummy' meds that are not gluten free. Also check all your other meds OTC and Scripts, your druggist can do this for you. It can take a while to heal but if this becomes real troublesome don't be afraid to check with your doctor about it. -
Thank you for your response. I was finally diagnosed celiac almost 4 years ago. That was when I gave myself a break from Dr.s. with the exception of bone scans and loads of dental work. I went in to get a general check up about 5 months ago and that was when The diabetes was found. I got the check up because I was still waking 5 times a night but...

Lister you'll do fine and as Carla said the chances of your having cancer are low. Try to relax and do as much as you can to keep your mind off it. You'll get through the prep okay, it's no fun but if it helps give you some answers it is worth going through. Has your Dad been getting the regular colonoscopies that he should? If not his fear may be more...

IMHO this actually sounds like a real good doctor. I wish my kids had him. He found the problem was celiac and was not going to do unneccessary testing to try and 'prove' that it wasn't. If he is willing to test every once in a while to check and make sure they are still gluten-free and that vitamins and iron are being properly absorbed I would go back...

Yea the sun damage and even the damage from my arthritis seemed to show up. It was really strange to me that the most purple joints I had were the ones with the most damage from the arthritis. And boy do my DH scars show up. As for the weird spot that was glowing I think tonight when it gets dark I am going to turn out the lights, the lights were on when...
-
This I am aware of. I grew up in the era of the black light so I am familiar with that type of glow. This is a yellow spot in the center of my palm. It is about half the size of a dime. And it is bright yellow almost like a flourescent paint. It is nothing like the whites of my fingernails or untanned skin, that I know is normal.
-
I was just playing with a black light in my studio. I was looking at my hands and I had spots on the sides of my fingers that were softly glowing white, I could deal with that. But when I turned over my hand I have a spot in the middle of my palm that looks like it has a light bulb inside it. It is like glowing a yellow bulb. I have a couple of smaller...

You need a new Ped. Period. I totally agree with everyone else. If he has been anemic all his life this was irresponsible of her.

ARCHIVED Glutened Through The Skin And By Paper Plates?
ravenwoodglass replied to sillyactsue's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
For a while after I was first diagnosed I would get migraine auras, not the headaches just the flashes, whenever I went through the bakery dept. This was long before I knew about the link between my arthritis, migraines and neuro problems associated with celiac. My allergist told me tht this extreme sensitivity to airborne gluten would likely improve and... -
ARCHIVED Glutened Through The Skin And By Paper Plates?
ravenwoodglass replied to sillyactsue's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I disagree with this whole heartedly. You may know the 'science' but I know how my body reacts, and after 4 years on the gluten-free diet I am quite familiar with what CC and a glutening feel like. I did NOT see a complete recovery of the majority of my problems until I eliminated gluten from all toiletries and other products. I have even been glutened... -
No do not reintroduce it. You are through the withdrawl period. Many of us see a lot of ups and downs at first and many times it is part of the healing process and many other times it can be linked to 'hidden' glutens in toiletries, makeup, hair products, cross contamination in the kitchen, or even kissing someone who has just had a sandwich or a beer....

ARCHIVED Nuts
ravenwoodglass replied to JeanC's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I second that heartily. I have NEVER had a problem with CC with wegmans in about 3 years. The one item ( a barbeque sauce) that did give me problems I called about and they removed the gluten-free label then reformulated it with distilled vinegar from corn before they reintroduced it. They even put out gluten-free pickles, I love Wegmans. When my DS gets... -
ARCHIVED Contractions Or Just Really Bad D?
ravenwoodglass replied to Melzo's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You are, of course, quite right about this. And that is the reason for an increase for most people of course. The first couple paragraphs had to make me smile, true though they are. I also have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and the mental picture I got from your description was quite vivid. I could still bend into pretzel shapes with ease at 9 months along. -
When I was first diagnosed I assumed he meant type 1 because he brought up the autoimmune factor when I asked him why I would get this if I did not have the typical overweight and underexcercised lifestyle that would usually be ascribed to Type 2. I have a Type 2 brother in law who flatly said I could not possibly have diabetes there was just no way. How...

"All I said was that people who have neglected themselves for so long may have no real beta function left to work with (glucose is toxic to beta cells as is insulin resistance) and MAY need external insulin, meds etc. to prevent dangerous blood sugars. I said MAY. Often many people who present with heart attacks and strokes etc. are diagnosed with diabetes...

Lister this is what I was talking about when I mentioned what they call Vesid in my state. I really hope you check this out, with your educational history and your newly diagnosed celiac they really will help you with getting into another occupation or job. You have shown good determination and a good work ethic by the number of times you have gone to work...

ARCHIVED Contractions Or Just Really Bad D?
ravenwoodglass replied to Melzo's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I just have to comment on this, I was under this misconception also for years, I gained almost a shoe size with each child. After about 6 months gluten-free I was back down to my prepregnacy shoe size. From a 7.5 to a 6 to 6.5. A size I had not worn in over 15 years! My feet got bigger each time because with each pregnacy my whole body edema would become... -

ARCHIVED Barley Malt Extract
ravenwoodglass replied to Nic's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Just as a side note if you are supersensitive or newly gluten free, my DS and I have both gotten sick from CC from this brand of cereal. When I called they did state that there could be a CC issue even though that is not noted on the box. They sent us coupons for 4 free boxes as an apology for making us sick, like I'll use them. I put them on the shelf... -

ARCHIVED Anyone Ever Get Glutened From Perfume? Smell Of Wheat?
ravenwoodglass replied to tailz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Many perfumes also use grain derived alcohols in their processing. These can also cause problems for celiacs. I check what the oil is derived from also when using essential oils. -
Your GI can not be sure it is Chrons without doing tests and biopsies. Chrons patients also often see a great deal of improvement on a gluten-free diet, read misdiagnosed celiacs here. My 'Chrons' symptoms are in complete remmission on the gluten-free diet, no pills, no pain. Also the symptoms of chrons, colitis and Celiac are all similar. And none are...

ARCHIVED Anyone Ever Get Glutened From Perfume? Smell Of Wheat?
ravenwoodglass replied to tailz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Since the offending molecules can be ABSORBED into the mucous membranes you don't have to swallow it. Even spending the day with a spitton at your side won't do any good because as soon as it hits that membrane you have been got. There is lots of info on this in the Lancet and there may even be some by the NIH even though the US is far, far behind many...
