  1. As a former chef I totally agree, and while some 'poisonings' may be accidental you also have to worry about a unhappy minimum wage employee who really doesn't care or is having a bad day and decides to play a 'prank'. The 'what they don't know won't hurt them' way of thinking. I had a boss once who insisted on telling vegans that our refried beans were okay...
  2. Thanks for the link, just went to the sight and added my voice, I hope others do too.
  3. The Ener-g company makes a soda cracker that is closest to Saltines that I have found. Some stores carry them but we usually get them on line. Congrats on the baby.
  4. McDonalds fries are coated in a milk based product. I was told to avoid them when I was told to stay away from dairy. Incidently I can now consume all the dairy I want. I too have issues with Lay's. I recently tried the Stax though and had no problems. I don't trust anything else of theirs though. It's like playing roulette for me.
  5. She also got pregnant, her symptoms got better and she thinks she's fine now. I'm wondering if when she stops breastfeeding if her problems will return. (Does this happen with celiac disease and pregnancy?) I am not sure why but my symptoms also disappeared completly while pregnant, after delivery I was hit with post partum depression so bad I don't even...
  6. Yea, I get both, by the way my fibro was caused by the gluten and has been gone now for a while so you may see that resovle. Hears what my PT told me to do and I found it helps a bit. I would lie on my bed with my legs straight up at the hips against the wall and my hands on 3 pillows to keep them as high as possible, She had me do this a couple times a...
  7. Yes, It is called gluten ataxia, this was my main symptom other than constipation and learning problems as a kid. It got so bad with me that I was thought to have MS. It is also the first sign that I have gotten into something I shouldn't have. The ataxia hits within minutes of injestion, depression and DH blisters the next day then the GI symptoms the next...
  8. I have never shown up positive, just the kids did. It was finally discovered in me when they were getting ready to do surgery for rectal incontinence (had that for over 5 years, no wonder I'm still agoraphobic!) the surgeon sent me to a PT to get me in better condition and she nagged at every visit for me to see an allergist. He guided me through an elimination...
  9. Bring up the microwave issue at the office, as a former sub teacher I can assure you they have one in the teachers longue. Your parents may be able to work out a way for you to use it. If admin won't allow ask a favorite teacher or aide who has the same lunch block, they might sneak something in to heat for you. After all you have a physical problem it's...
  10. I hope you find some resolution soon. Please be aware that mood altering drugs can be very dangerous for celiacs, you sound real depressed and your injesting two, the prozac and the valium that is mixed with the antispasmotic in the clidinium. Also celiac disease itself can cause serious depression, being gluten-free negates the need for medication. As someone...
  11. Got the quote last try let me try again, You do sound celiac. Both you and your Mom, don't waste any more time wondering and get it checked out either with a new doctor or by eliminating gluten from your diet. Good luck
  12. Have you checked for 'hidden' sources of gluten, for example - stamps and envelopes, do you lick them, may not be safe. Did you de-gluten your kitchen throughly, change your toaster and are you careful not to let gluten containing foods near your food? Have you checked with your spice companies for the spices you use? McCormicks pure spices are safe, but...
  13. I added a new Revlon Lipstick, Progresso Cream of Mushroom Soup and a Chicken Salad tray at our local grill (which may have come out of a large pre-prepared jug). I know for sure the soup was okay, I was so happy to find that out, so is thier split pea with ham and a few others, they mark the labels very well and I have never noticed any crosscontamination...
  14. Ask your doctor to do the blood screen, lots of us have it done and it can pick up deficencies in many important vitamins and minerals. Have you tried childrens gluten-free chewable vitamins? They generally contain a bit of sugar to make them more palatable as long as your not sucrose intolerant they might work, also try liquid if you haven't already. Sublingual...
  15. It is not just the cross contamination issue, although thats enough, Many fountain mixes are formulated differently from the stuff you buy in the store., most places won't stand on their head for you to read the labels and it's kind of a safe not sorry senario. Also for me I don't know what is in Sanitabs that are used in the 3rd rinse (read they sit in this...
  16. No you don't outgrow a genetic difference, and I just tell people I will get sick,if they have health problems also I go into greater detail but the rest just need to know it makes me sick.
  17. Check diligently for a source of cross contamination or a hidden gluten source. Have you made your kitchen gluten-free or are you trying to cook in a gluten filled kitchen? Make sure you get a new toaster and clean like the health deptartment is coming if gluten containing foods are still in use in your home. It is best for the newly diagnosed to try and...
  18. Don't forget that gluten causes a delayed reaction, thats why it is an intolerance not an allergy and why it is so hard to pinpont on a food diary. . It can take up to 3 days for the gut to react. Your not out of the woods yet.
  19. You could also try sublingual B12 rather than the injections. It is given to people that lack the intrinsic factor and is absorbed under the tongue. Just make sure it is gluten-free of course.
  20. It doesn't bother me too much to be called a celiac, what does bother me alot is the 'disease' part. In our family we call it the celiac difference, after all we were only diseased until we went gluten-free.
  21. It usually takes about three days for the GI symptoms to show as far as diarrhea goes. Gluten is an intolerance and the symptoms are much more insideous than the I eat it I get sick reaction that you see with an allergy. Don't think for a minute you are in the clear case the 'trots' haven't hit...yet. I hope they don't but. And by the way if you were bloated...

    ARCHIVED Trouble With Doctors...

Here is what I would do. I would order complete copies of my daughters records from the retired doctors office. I would schedule an appointment with a different GI doctor and send copies of the first doctors records. Then I would explain the situation. If the school did not listen to me I would make sure I sent her lunch with her every day, which you will...
  23. Insist that your dentist check the gluten statis of everything they use. My dentist was told I was celiac but I kept getting sick everytme I went. Turned out they just wrote celiac in my chart and that was it. I called around until I found a new dentist that would check everything. She didn't even want to use a cotton ball once because she hadn't checked...
