  1. I know this response is a bit off the original topic but having been a head chef for many years before celiac curtailed that career I had to comment on this. Restaurants do have to abide by the ADA rules as long as they are not grandfathered an exemption. For example: if a restaurant has been in business for years and is not wheelchair accessible it is not...
  2. I guess my experience with being vocal about celiac disease is unusual from the other posts. I worked in a store for a few months last year and was exrememely vocal about celiac disease. I had 7 people come back in to thank me because they had listened and tried being gluten-free or got tested and were positive. This may be because I live in a smaller city...
  3. Yvonne, I am so sorry. I lost my twin to a crash years ago. It seems doubly hard when things happen so suddenly. It is very overwhelming. Nothing anyone can say will really help. It's so hard to have to be strong for others when your melting inside. Make sure to allow yourself time to grieve while you take care of everyone else. The pain will dull but...
  4. Thanks, it would be nice if they found a pill for this. Without doubt it will need careful monitoring ($$$$$$$$) and be quite expensive but at least then Dr. may look for gluten sensitivities. It's apparently not profitable enough for them to diagnose in this country.
  5. Just wanted to add this link that was the best one I found when I had folks telling me to ignore the celiac and go with this diet. Open Original Shared Link Those of you thinking about the diet may want to look at this.
  6. I had to answer this one, cause I agree fully. To me IBS stands for "I Be Stumped" (or stupid depending on my mood ). IBS , to me, means that you're left to suffer cause it is too much trouble to find out what someone is sensitive to. And much more profitable for them, after all as we get worse they get to hand us more meds, order more tests and see our...

    ARCHIVED Wary...

When I was dealing with chronic pain I found an acupuncturist to be VERY helpful. After a session I had relief from symptoms (pain) for a few days, and I was still undiagnosed at that time so it seemed something of a miracle. It didn't help the tummy problems but definately helped with the pain. It took a good 3 to 4 months (for some it takes longer) before...
  8. You need to call the company that makes the chocolate to check out if the vanilla is gluten-free or if the lines may be contaminated. You mentioned eating rice and peppers and the symptoms continued. Here is what I discovered recently, don't know if it will apply to you but... Before being gluten-free I ate very little rice, after diagnosis it became...
  9. Think you may have your answer there. Do you feel better on the diet? If you do don't worry too much about what the tests say and stay gluten free.
  10. I'd be concerned about the 'natural flavor'. Best to just call the company.
  11. That is quite possible, I have seen labels that say "Contains gluten (corn or wheat)". Some companies don't know the differnce. I would contact them back and ask them to specify, why not educate them a bit.
  12. Yes they can and often do charge you for a copy of each page. It can be worth it though.
  13. I had been looking for a celiac freindly clay. I finally got a hold of the sculpey company and they verified that it is safe for us to use. Great news for Xmas decorations this year, yay!!!
  14. Thanks for those lists. It is much appretitiated.
  15. Hi, You may want to think about contacting an allergist they can lead you through an elimination diet to try and pinpoint what you are still reacting to. I believe there are blood tests for food sensitivities also but I don't know a lot about them. Do you consume gluten-free foods with artificial sugars like malitol? Some react to the sugar alcohols...
  16. First off I am not a doctor and can only say what I would do. I have taken this drug, prediagnosis, and if it did this to me I would stop taking the amy immediately. It is not a drug that you would need to taper off and it is not something that is 'saving your life' like an antibiotic or insulin. Don't wait till your doctors appointment to let him know that...
  17. Your body has already given you the answer to whether you are celiac or not. Go back to gluten-free and CF. After you have been feeling great for awhile add dairy back in and see if you can tolerate it. You already know your at least gluten intolerant. Stay away form it no matter what the blood tests say.
  18. I am a smoker and have been for a very, very long time and am extremely sensitive to gluten. I do not react, gluten wise, to cigs unless I use rolling papers. I also have not found a safe paper.
  19. But some of us can not tolerate grain alcohols even when distilled. Test them in small amounts first. Richard do you count the hours till I add this in? I'm sorry but our reaction is so strong I have to add it in, forgive me okay? K
  20. Yea me too with the one good vein thing. My favorite time was with this girl in a high school progam working at a small hospital satalite lab. She got one tube okay but when she shoved the next tube in she shoved the needle out the other side of the vein. Couldn't get any blood of course so she starts sweating and moving the needle back and forth sideways...
  21. Yes that is why in some countries thay test children before they start school. Get off the gluten you'll feel and think so much better.
  22. I always call the manufacturer for these, actually I have learned the hard way to call on everything that has even a remote chance of contamination as well as content. You may want to call you GYN and ask if they will let you just get the blood test done for your hormone levels. It can be done after 6 months without your period. You are well past that...
