  1. Yes, Fortunately it was only one leg. Sometimes I used to have to use my hand to move my leg, made it a real pain (and probably dangerous) to drive. I used canadian canes for a few years prediagnosis because of this and the ataxia. It also made them think MS, but they ruled that out. After about 3 months gluten-free my neuro symptoms were pretty much...
  2. RiceGuy Off Topic but thanks. Even though I am in tears right now I want to thank you for that link. My DD will bear the physical scars resulting from her antidepressant use for the rest of her life and it was only by the grace of God that we were able to prevent her suicide. The pictures of the parents really got to me, brought back the memories of hiding...
  3. Yea, why do you do this to yourself? Get yourself to the store and get some gluten-free snacks to hide around work. You must realize also that if you actually do follow the diet you msot likely can give up the prozac. Someone posted a wonderful link in another section and I am going to post it here for you. Please note the reference to some of us presenting...
  4. What a great reference. I am immediately going to post a link on all the boards I visit. Thanks
  5. I don't understand why doctors don't just order the genetic testing if they feel they have to have proof other than dietary response. As long as they look for both full celiac and intolerances it shouldn't be required that we poison ourselves or our children then undergo the inherent risks of sedation or anesthesia. Hopefully American doctors will wake up...
  6. I was pretty much symptom free with both pregnancies. My experience afterwards was not. My symptoms got a lot worse after last pregnancy, common for us that are undiagnosed. I also gained alot of weight, the only time in my life I could. I gained 45 with the first and 60 with the second. Quite a bit on a 98 lb maximum body but I finally had boobs. I would...
  7. I would suggest getting your hands on a copy of 'Dangerous Grains' I've gotten 2 copies off of an internet auction site used and cheap and I am sure it is available in some bookstores and libararies. I know some very knowledgeable people will be on to answer your questions more fully but essentially in sensitive people the protein gliadin in gluten containing...
  8. You know your bodies reaction to gluten better than any doctor does. It makes me so sad to see people who are making themselves sick, knowlingly, so that these doctors can feel like they 'proved' something. Enterolab was a smart move, have you gotten the tests yet and sent them in? If you have then get yourself gluten-free soon, you already know it will help...
  9. That GI is an absolute idiot. My opinion only. Your blood tests and your response to the diet are proof enough. Her insistance that you have IBS after your positive bloodwork is proof of that she knows nothing about celiac disease. She did give good advice about cutting out dairy though, many of us can not tolerate dairy until we have healed. What I would...
  10. You were so lucky, it wasn't discovered or even looked for in my kids. Even though my son went from the 65th percentile at birth to the -10 at a year, and my DD went from the 110th to the 20th. They thought I had emotional problems and that the kids had inherited them and my son was 'just being difficult about food'. It wasn't discovered till he was 19...
  11. I have the progresso split pea at least once a week, that is definately gluten-free, I also use their cream of mushroom a lot for casseroles. I believe the chicken and rice is okay also but I am rather learly of processed chicken in any form, so I avoid it. They do have other varieties that are gluten-free also but read the can carefully, I got myself a couple...
  12. Why do doctor do this? She should be doing an endo first not a colo. (my opinion because of 5 extra years of suffering after being told the colonoscopy showed nothing it's IBS live with it and have a prozac) Call the office and ask, firmly, that they do an endoscopy with lots of biopsies at the same time. If they can't do both try and get the endo first...
  13. Corn has its own form of gluten. Thats why they answered it like that. Celiacs, of course, don't react to corn gluten but some people may have problems with it.
  14. I found a Perry's ice cream product called Cherry Cordial Ice Cream Bars. They looked soooo good but I wasn't hopeful until I saw those magic words, Gluten Free. First time I have seen this on an ice cream, yay. I emailed the company my thanks when I ate the first one.
  15. I stay away from gum for this very reason. I got poisoned by smarties because of this. They don't put what they dust the lines with in the ingredient labels, after all it isn't part of the item!!! . I always call and ask before consuming.
  16. I had a similar experience to Bonnie, except for the chocolate, (thank goodness!) I cut drastically down on my rice consumption and my bloat and my DH have gotten a lot of relief. I still have a sandwich or something once in a while but I was eating rice at almost every meal, something I had never done prediagnosis. You may want to try limiting rice and...
  17. My Mom was misdiagnosed with pernicious anemia many years ago when she actually had the same thing I did - severe deficencies because of the malabsorbtion from celiac. What you are referring to with your tongue is most likely 'geographic tongue' and while startling is likely due to vitamin deficiencies. You may want to get some sublingual B12 tablets. These...
  18. I also agree, plus many of us never show up positive no matter how sick we are. You have your answer by the response to the diet.
  19. This sounds great except....In every drug trial they need to have a control group that is recieving a placebo instead of the drug. What do I think my chances would be of getting the placebo? With my luck real good, do I want to go through that pain, not for a million dollars. The only good thing about this in my mind is that they once they find a pill,...
  20. Good for you to listen to your body and not just test results. Being gluten-free takes some getting used to but the trade off in good health is well worth it. I'm glad your first gluten-free cooking experience was a good one and hope you have many more. It is not always easy but it is definately worth it.
  21. They still do reccomend the brat diet, I am active on an IBS board also and always reccomend the BRA diet instead. I also tell them that if they get relief and then feel sick again after the BRA is over and they are consuming regular food (gluten) they really need to evaluate gluten. Kind of a sneaky way to get people to rule it out but it seems to be effective...
  22. My DD gets schizo symptoms when she is on gluten. For 2 years before diagnosis she thought I was poisoning her and often had hallucinations of bugs. You do sound gluten intolerant from your other symptoms also, have you tried being gluten free? Many show up negative on blood tests, turned out I was tested repeatedly for 10 years and always showed up negative...
  23. If your son can have milk products my DS and I used Carnation Instant Breakfast (milk chocolate flavor, not all flavors are gluten-free at least one has malt so read labels). We added one or two milkshakes a day made with 2 packets powder and sometimes add ice cream for a few more calories. I also add a banana (or other fruit) and some protein powder if I...
