  1. Which ones? I haven't found one yet. I even checked chicken and rice and that lists wheat starch. I used to love campbells soup but every can has wheat starch so I have given up and just go with progresso. I just did another search of their web site and the only thing that came up without gluten is the V8 juices. I had read on their site not too long...
  2. I got a kit for everyone in the family, I think it will be interesting to see if somewhere my kids 'paths' cross. One is half castillian spanish the other is half scottish and norweigen, both are celiacs. It's our christmas project this year. Go to WWW.NATIONALGEOGRAPHIC.COM that should give a link to the project or try www.nationalgeographic...
  3. Wegmans is the greatest, I am so glad I live near one. It makes shopping so much easier, and more profitable for them, that they mark our safe food with a little orange G. Have fun you'll have lots of choices.
  4. Where did you get this? If it was from a medical article would you please post a link? People react to gluten if they are sensitive to it. If you ae not you can go back and forth between consuming and not consuming forever and it won't cause a problem. If you have a gluten-free household and you have a child who does not need to be gluten-free you WILL NOT...
  5. National geograpic is doing a genographic project to map the migration of different populations across our globe. Is anyone taking part in this?
  6. I agree with the other poster, Bring food with you, you may find some name brand hot dogs or some sealed chips or drinks but other than cotton candy it may be lean. The cotton candy is fun though, it should be just spun sugar might want to ask to be sure.
  7. The ingredients have to be on the packaging somewhere, maybe you could call the theater ahead and ask or look for the manager before you order and ask him, just tell him you have food allergies and want to check the ingredients.
  8. I've worked in a deli and there is a real problem with wiping it off. I would just stick to packaged, to get a slicer clean you need to take it apart, there are guards that get bits stuck in them and the only way to get them clean is to dismantle and wash. Personally I would not trust something sliced on one. Theres lots of 'deli slice style' stuff thats...
  9. Do you know if the jelly beans are?
  10. The witch in me (substitite b for w) would tell them that if it happens again you will talk to your lawyer, celiac disease is not a joke and they are making him sick by ignoring you. Make a big poster for them to hang on the wall that illustrates things he can and can't have and maybe once in awhile you could bring in a bag of gluten-free cookies and some...
  11. I have to scream an aggrement with this, I worked in the school systems and also had a son who has ADD and dyslexia as well as Aspergers. If they test him while he is under the influence of the demon wheat those test results will follow him the rest of his school days. While working in Special ED I saw a few kids that really did not need to be there anymore...
  12. Get your hands on a copy of Dangerous Grains. Gluten was always present in wheat just not in the amounts that are present today. When man decided to cultivate ancient wheat varieties the cultivation process increased the amount of gluten contained in the wheat they were cultivating. There have been some trials using ancient wheats that are still found growing...
  13. We all know how hard this is. As another poster stated you are going through withdrawl also so this makes it doubly hard. I cried in Wegmans a couple days into my elimination diet and my DD refused to shop with me for a long time after that! Check out the products section of the boards and contact companies asking for gluten-free lists when you check out...
  14. Oh, I wish I could, I'm only about 3 hours away but traveling is still a big trial for me. My ex-husband and I (legally seperated 15 years no divorce) are celebrating out 20th anniversary next week and I am nervous as hell about just driving 45 min. to Rochester for a coin show. I work on the celiac induced agorophobia issue daily so maybe if you do this...
  15. Thank you for this post, I hope you also visit other boards with this valuable info. You are certainly in a position to be listened to. I send my PT cards and the occasional flowers for being the one who cared enough to nag me to see an allergist, no doctor ever mentioned celiac in 15 years of misery.
  16. Are you feeling any better gluten-free? I suffered from gluten ataxia from childhood which eventually got so bad I had to use canadian canes to get around and my ex-husband bought and remodeled a house for me because we thought I would be in a wheelchair soon. After a few months gluten-free the canes became a wall sculpture. Did they do an MRI? If they did...
  17. Which blood test did you show positive for? If you had a mildly positve test for pregnancy would you question it? A positive is a positve. Many celiacs never show up on blood tests (raises both hands and waves) if I had waited for a positive blood test I would probably have killed myself by now. You could just keep consuming the stuff till you get so sick...
  18. He needs to be gluten free and test everyone olse in the family also. Do not delay, you don't want your son to end up 20 years old and 5 ft tall and suffering emotionally. You will see a difference. I would not put him through a biopsy as your doctor fully recognizes the need for a gluten-free diet without one, great doctor you have there. Thank him, he is...
  19. We love it, never had a problem. Be sure and check each differnt variety though cause some mixes they put together are not safe. Enjoy your tacos.
  20. It could be the yeast but I would bet money on the chicken broth.
  21. Campbells Chicken and rice is NOT gluten free, I looked at a can yesterday and they put wheat starch in it. Progresso's chicken and wild rice is though also their split pea and new england clam chowder, cream of mushroom and maybe some others. I sometimes cook down the progresso cream of mushroom a bit before adding it to my recipes, for a soup more like...
  22. Thanks guys, I think I'll open the very pretty tin on the back porch, dump the contents and use it for dog biscuits. I was just hopeful , oh well I guess I'll make peanut butter cookies again instead.
