ARCHIVED Gluten-free Cookies
ravenwoodglass replied to Rae's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am the laziest person in the world but I make these cookies all the time quick and easy and keep forever, try mixing 1 cup P nut butter, 1 cup sugar, 1 egg and 1/4 tsp vanilla, plop in balls on a sheet flatten with a fork and bake at 350 for about 10 - 14 minutes or till lightly browned on edges. Let cool on sheet for 5 minutes before removing to rack.... -
ARCHIVED More About Genes
ravenwoodglass replied to Claire's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I don't know whether to thank you for showing me this or not . This is really scary stuff. Genetic mixing and drugging our food supply. Hmmmm, and Busch beer is the largest consumer of rice? Maybe they could find an alternative to the malt? -
ARCHIVED Please Help
ravenwoodglass replied to danikali's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
How about going back to the allergist and having him guide you through an elimination diet? That can help pick up other intolerances as well as gluten. It isn't quick but it can be very effective and not real costly since you have already had the allergy part of it done. -
ARCHIVED Vodka
ravenwoodglass replied to Noelle126's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi, could you please tell me how to make the Kaluha? I would love to try this, I seem to react to the real thing. I would love a White Russian. -
I could write a book on this. I also became suicidal. My DD starting cutting, then became suicidal and had to be hospitalized for a short time, and my DS became psychotic (sp?) he wanted to kill other people and then himself but fortunately never acted on it. Celiac induced depression is much different than an imbalance of serotonin or a reaction to external...

ARCHIVED Vodka
ravenwoodglass replied to Noelle126's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The fountain sodas are very suspect, also some states require bars to use a soak with a sani-tab in the final rinse, it is not washed off afterwards. I never read the label so I have no idea what is in it. I always make them rinse my glass with plain hot water before they mix my drink and if they don't have soda in a can I drink wine. -
ARCHIVED Response From Loreal On Gluten
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Please don't worry about it, I tend to post kind of 'short and sweet' and at times come off very terse. I apologize for that. We can't see faces here so we lose a lot in understanding. I am glad your doing better, seems miraculous doesn't it? Welcome back, new freind, and best wishes. Krista -
ARCHIVED Glutened From Colonoscopy Prep.?
ravenwoodglass replied to danikali's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, What did you eat last Thursday, Friday, Saturday? Don't forget that gluten is a delayed reaction, my DS has a real hard time with this he always thinks the last thing he ate 'got him' when he needs to look a few days back. It is also possible that they could have used something that 'got' you in the procedure. I got a severe glutening from a spray of... -
ARCHIVED Looking Over My Blodd Test Results...
ravenwoodglass replied to VydorScope's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Laura, Hopefully someone will post about auto-immune liver disease, all I can tell you is it exists. I lost my twin brother at 15 because of it. Back then the doctor only said his liver had been deteriorating since birth but no other info. He also said that my twins drinking excaberated the damage, he became an alcoholic at first drink at 12. Hopefully... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Tried Mr. Spice Sauces?
ravenwoodglass replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I ordered a whole bunch, unfortunately. We found them awful. Others I'm sure will like them but they just tasted kind of well as another poster put it .. funky. -
ARCHIVED Response From Loreal On Gluten
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I didn't take offense, sorry if I came off like I did. The issue with the haircolor for me is that I use a temporary color so it is designed to rinse off a bit at a time with each shampoo. The permanent ones do this to some extent also so my feeling is better safe than sorry. Again sorry if I come off terse, I did not mean to. -
ARCHIVED Test Results In :(
ravenwoodglass replied to VydorScope's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I just wanted to add both of my children showed up in bloodwork, I did not even though I was so sick I could not leave my house or walk without the aid of canes. If I had relied on bloodwork for diagnosis of celiac or gluten intolerance (I don't care which it it is) I would still have a bald head, arthritis, ataxia, fibromyalgia, IBS with bleeding D every... -
ARCHIVED Vodka
ravenwoodglass replied to Noelle126's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am one of the ones who reacts strongly to any grain alcohol, (I black out after 1 drink and get very sick from grain alcohol). I drink Luksusowa Polish Potato Vodka and have NO problems. I can have 2 or 3 in an evening with no ill effects at all, not even a mild hangover. There are other potato vodkas around but this brand is the least costly. -
ARCHIVED Response From Loreal On Gluten
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This may not be a concern for you however it is for lots of us. I lost a lot of hair prediagnosis and I get blisters that take months to heal. Frankly I don't care if I do or don't get a gut reaction from topical application, I do get noticeable symptoms. Do you put your hands to your hair? Do you get caught in the rain? Does your hair ever get in your... -
ARCHIVED Kraft Creamy Ranch Dip For Chips? Gluten Free?
ravenwoodglass replied to Jnkmnky's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
At this point there is great debate about what defines gluten-free. That is one of the main reasons so few companies are doing this. The FDA is in the process of determining what levels define gluten-free. Do we use the European Standard, do we use one lower, do we use a 0 level policy? The European Standard may not be safe for American Celiacs as we tend... -
ARCHIVED Response From Loreal On Gluten

Been wanting to color my hair again. I called about ColorSpa temporary and it is safe, and then found this email. Thought others might want the info too. "The safety of our consumers is our highest priority. As a global leader, the L'Oréal group of companies, which includes L'Oréal Paris, is dedicated to rigorous standards of manufacturing excellence t... -
ARCHIVED Any Help Financing Testing For Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to Candy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your best bet, IMHO is to do the elimination and challange that was suggested. I spent 15 years spending an average of 17 thousand a year in co-pays for every test in the book. They took 12 to 14 tubes of blood on every visit to one of the best hospitals in NY and all they ever came up with was low B12 and UBOs (unidentified bright objects not suggestive... -
ARCHIVED Any Soft Breads Commerically Available?
ravenwoodglass replied to Goliadman's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Many will disagree but for a pasty white bread substitute we like Ener-G. When microwaved either instead of or before toasting it comes out like the Wonder Bread kids used to eat. It doesn't fall apart and has a texture when zapped like 'regular' bread. Many think it has no taste, but pasty white bread doesn't either so you might like it. Just don't forget... -
ARCHIVED Tgif Potato Skins - Spinach Dip
ravenwoodglass replied to killernj13's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've called the company cause I loved skins prediagnosis and they state they are not gluten free. when you have doubts about a product ALWAYS call the manufactutor before consumption, even if it looks safe. -
ARCHIVED Need List Of Non-food gluten-free Items
ravenwoodglass replied to kberzinski's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Check out the products section of the board for lots of postings on this. I do know crest is gluten-free and recently found that Palmolive and Ajax dish soaps are. I use Giovanni hair care products from the health food section of wegmans but they are widely available. If you do a search for you particular favorites on the products board that should answer... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease Trigger
ravenwoodglass replied to Dewilda's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
And he should be. Your husband has always had the gene for celiac, he was born with it. Severe mental or physical stress can take us from gluten intolerant to full blown celiac. With women alot of times it is pregnancy. Should we blame our husbands? My symptoms first showed in childhood when I had a tooth pulled without novacaine but were not serious till... -
ARCHIVED Hands And Arms Shaking
ravenwoodglass replied to Lisa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Elisabet is right on with the B12 but dehydration could also be playing a part, especially if your having headaches too. In addition to the B12, up your liquid intake when glutened. It also might help clear it out of your system faster. -
YES, there is a definate connection, for some of us the depression is the only symptom for years. I have a history similar to yours. So do both of my children. For our family depression is one of the first signs we have been glutened. Our psychiatric symptoms go beyond that though. I was diagnosed bi-polar and epileptic at one point also. We are perfectly...

This sounds a lot like DH. I get the same thing on my neck and back. I was thinking a long the same lines you are on the sulfites. If it is wine that causes this reaction I would simply avoid wine. If it was lupus I would think, (could be wrong here of course) that the flushing would be present for longer and would not have a direct link to the wine...

ARCHIVED B12 Sublingual
ravenwoodglass replied to elisabet's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi, What are the binders in your B12? What type of reaction did you have, histimine or intolerance? I have never heard of anyone having a reaction to the B12 itself, the binders in it would be what I would suspect. You might want to ask the doctor if B12 injections would be safe, if the binders cause difficulty and levels need to be brought up. Best Wishes
