  1. Hmmm, a yes to this for my family too. Celiac son's were so beautiful an elderly lady argued about whether he was a girl or a boy. It was so funny, I finally said, "Please, I change his diapers!" and she shrugged and walked away.
  2. I prefer to think of it as a difference. If we had not been consuming great amounts of this stuff since birth I doubt we would see this genetic difference as a problem. I know I am in the minority but the disease is not with me, it is with a culture that overprocesses everything and then adds an addictive and toxic (I believe for everyone) compound into...
  3. We are not birds , you really can get all the nutrients we need from fruits, veggies, meats, fish, poultry, eggs, etc. Don't worry about not replacing grains, you'll be fine without them. You may want to check out the threads on the SCD diet also.
  4. If you are in the US do you have insurance that will cover the lab tests your regular doctor would order, ie. blood, urine? If so you should see your GP or go to a general care clinic and ask for the stool tests. Regular insurance or Medicaid will cover these tests when done in a regualr hospital lab and they are quite reliable.
  5. Are you taking prenatal vitamins and if so are you sure they are gluten-free?
  6. Something that helped our family was carnation instant breakfast, the powder, we woould add a shake with it whole milk and ice cream a couple times a day. If you can have dairy they come to about 500 calories each or more. Make sure the ice cream is gluten-free.
  7. The reason for this is because casein and lactose are two different things. Casein is a protein and lactose is a sugar. You can be casein intolerant but not lactose, you should still stay away from dairy products and should be careful to check for casein with anything that is lactose free.
  8. I used to get drunk on NA beer, and even a little vodka would send me to lala land. I now have a glass or two of wine or some potato vodka with orange juice with no problems. I don't even get a hangover anymore, although I don't drink a lot, either now or before being gluten-free, before even two beers would make me sick for a couple days. If you do decide...
  9. You may also be sensitive to the nightshade family, this is also fairly common.
  10. Just as an aside, I had allergy testing done before going gluten-free and was allergic to everything. This was because my immune system was in overdrive. Many sensitivities went away after I healed.
  11. For me the repeated neg blood tests caused years of disability and pain. Trust the dietary results the blood tests for many of us are worthless. If he is doing better keep him gluten-free and if you really need something on paper maybe Enterolab gene testing might be the way to go.
  12. It's kind of like being a little bit pregnant Yes the doctors office will give you a copy, you have a legal right to them but some will charge you a copy fee.
  13. I totally agree with your doctor. You were lucky to find him, it was really hard to find an allergist that would do an elimination diet but it was well worth the time and effort for me to find one. The one I finally found was ancient and sat and typed everything on an old Underwood with carbon paper. He was amazing though. I feel he saved my life all the...
  14. Hi again, I just noticed your subheading. Are you working with a doctor or dietician or anyone on your elimination diet? If you are not then you may want to consult one. I went to an allergist, first he skin tested me for obvious food allergies and had me fill out a questionairre about what I usually ate and then he started me with only a few foods, I was...
  15. Your veneers that are already on will not cause a problem but you want to have them check everything they use. Make sure they really check, I thought mine did but it turned out to be too much trouble for the tech so they just wrote celiac in my chart and poisoned me with every visit. My new doctor is great and checked everything. And yes haircolor and...
  16. I have to agree with everyone here. I find I do much better with just meats, veggies and fruits. Start out kind of bland and have freqent small meals. It may help. As a quick afterthought, have you been on antibiotics? they can mess with the system also. If you have probiotics might help.
  17. I would never touch this pill. For one thing I presented for years with the neurological symptoms, over 30, before the gut problems hit. Gluten is also absorbed by the mucus membranes, the reason many countries do a rectal challange and biopsy, will this pill prevent the mucosal lining of the mouth, esophagus and stomach and rectum from absorbing? Will...
  18. An awful lot of undiagnosed celiacs out there. Now that I am gluten-free I have gone from having constant gas and rumbling tummy to almost never having gas, drinking soda is the only offending culprit now. And I eat lots of beans, broccoli and brussel sprouts! Somehow they don't produce gas if not mixed with GLUTEN.
  19. Yep, if they had reccommended the gluten-free diet to me when they first started doing their worthless (for me) tests I would have been diagnosed at least 5 years sooner. And I might not have the residual damage that I have. If the diet helps do it and stay with it no matter what the blood tests show. Interestingly enough once they figured out gluten was...
  20. Did he call this a UBO? They found these lesions on my MRIs years ago and I was told they were nothing. After I was diagnosed with Celiac and started doing research I found out in Europe they are diagnostic for Celiac. Here my neuro called them nothing to be concerned about.
  21. I had to reply to this. Your son sounds so much like mine! We found martial arts to be very helpful also. My DS is now in his early 20's and still just as much a stickler for 'the rules', it really let's me breathe a sigh of relief. He would no more think of doing something like drinking and driving "a rule" than he would think of cutting off his own arm...
  22. Please don't feel sorry for me, feel happy. The change in the way I feel is well worth the hassle and expense. I was in so much pain for so long that the celiac diagnosis seemed like a miracle. I also consider myself fortunate to react to even the tiniest amount. I feel sorry for the ones who don't. They don't have as much incentive to keep all forms...
  23. Are your gloves powdered? Is your soap gluten-free? My house is full of pets which I am allergic to so I wash my hands constantly. They would end up red with the lines being a stark white and real chapped. I checked all my soaps, dish and personal and switched to brands that I know are gluten-free. I still wash my hands just as much as before but now...
  24. You need to stay away from oats also. Look for bread that says Gluten Free not just wheat free. It can be made from tapioca, rice, or another non-gluten grain. Pasta can be made from rice or the one I like best is Ancient Harvest Corn and Quiona. If you go to the home page for this site they have a list of allowed and not allowed food ingredients.
  25. Racheal, did they tell you to eat some yogert daily while you were on the antibiotics? I have found this sometimes helps stave off the D effects the antibiotics cause. Many will also use probiotics but I prefer the yogert to pills.
