  1. Thanks y'all! I knew y'all would know!! The burts bees sounds divine, but we're also casein free, so we'll have to pass on that one. A "tea bath" sounds yummy even if I'm not itchy.
  2. My little girl used to enjoy oatmeal baths if she got a rash or too many mosquito bites. That's obviously a no-no now. She can't have bubble baths due to frequent UTIs. What do y'all put in a gluten-free comfort bath? I'd also like to know for myself... oatmeal baths used to be a cheap home spa treatment. -Shannon
  3. I had my gallbladder removed due to a polyp. In retrospect, I think my symptoms were actually caused by gluten sensitivity. The cholecystectomy pathology report showed a chronically inflammed gallbladder. I have read more than one doctor's opinion that gallbladder disease can be secondary to celiac. I would consult a surgeon (or even better, two surgeons...
  4. I think Mesa Sunrise is super yummy. My little girl thinks it's "Okaaaaaaaay, but will you please buy some more Erewhon?"
  5. The pill doesn't affect my weight one way or the other. I take Yasmin.
  6. My little girl also really likes the Erewhon crispy brown rice with berries. While I agree with tarnalberry that cereal for breakfast isn't nutritious, it's a nice treat. A treat for my daughter because she gets something sweet (and "mainstream") for breakfast and a treat for me because I didn't have to cook it. Just like candy bars or ice cream, we consider...
  7. I'm not all that angry but I'm definitely glutened. Ugh. I used a restaurant card (I frankensteined a card to make it Gluten-free Casein-free) and spoke to the manager. The card talked about CC. Both the waitress and the manager were clearly annoyed as it was a busy night with quite a wait at the entrance. I ordered the guilt-free chicken salad...
  8. So I made lorka's flax bread dough recipe and spread it on a jellyroll pan. I let it rise about 30 minutes and then added the toppings. I used 365 Organic Classic pasta sauce and Vegan Gourmet "mozzarella". It turned out nice with good deep dish mojo. It doesn't taste much like the fabulous pizzas I made before dx, but since it's been over a...

    ARCHIVED Acne

I went gluten-free first and then casein free later. My skin cleared up when I went CF. This was quite a surprise to me (don't you love good surprises?) because I've done two strong courses of accutane in my adult life that made my skin beautiful while on the drug but the effects didn't last. I've been through every medical and alternative acne treatment...
  10. My acne cleared up when I cut out casein. Amazing, really, since I have done two strong courses of accutane and the acne still came back. My doctor says that food tolerances can be systemic, so it's totally possible that gluten is irritating your skin. Congratulations on the clearer skin!
  11. Hi Sandi, Your gluten antibody is slightly elevated according to Dr. Fine's reference range. So you are having an immune reaction to gluten. Your anti-tissue transglutaminase antibody is normal, so that's good. This tests for an autoimmune reaction. Your tests for casein and egg were also negative, so that's also good! Your fecal fat score is...
  12. It is very common for doctors not to accept the validity of Enterolab. Dr. Fine himself is an extremely accomplished gastroenterologist, but the tests he uses are not accepted by mainstream medicine. That doesn't mean that his lab is unreliable. He uses an ELISA method test of determining the amount of antibody in the stool. If he found it, it's in...
  13. I bought my own pyx (wafer container) at a Christian Bookstore. It's just the right size to hold wafers snugly... mine holds 9 wafers but I only put one at a time in it. My Pastor actually communes me out of the pyx, turning the container over into my hand so that he never actually touches the wafer. The pyx is an appropriate vessel for holding the host...
  14. I tried the Lara Bar recipe too. My family really liked the results... I think we'll make these more often than gluten free cookies (probably a good thing!!) I used dates, dried cranberries, orange zest and almonds, didn't measure anything, and made a lot more than the one bar the recipe called for. I pushed the paste down into the bottom of a...
  15. Hi there! "D" is OK and they have specific packing instructions to ensure that the feces stay in their container no matter how liquid. (I know, ewww factor!) Also, you can only send off your package on a Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday so that it won't arrive at Enterolab on a weekend. So if you collect your specimen on a Thursday, for example,...
  16. Hi Liz, Most published studies about gluten pertain to celiac itself or to the neurological effects of gluten sensitivity. My PCP did take my Enterolab results seriously, but only as one piece of evidence in a larger pattern. I made a very thorough packet for her about my symptoms (both GI and non-GI) and which ones resolved when I stopped eating gluten...
  17. I agree! Best gluten-free bread hands down.
  18. Immunoglobulin A = IgA. IgA is a particular kind of antibody that the immune system uses. Celiac people make IgA against gliandin (part of the gluten molecule) but you normally make IgA against lots of things. It's important to test the total number when testing for a specific kind so you can catch it if the patient has IgA deficiency. If the patient...
  19. I like Soy Dream, butter pecan flavor. I have a rice-based coconut mango "ice cream" in my freezer now but I haven't tried it yet. Got them both at Whole Foods.
  20. I wish I had the study handy just now, but I read where they gave celiacs a gluten challenge by suppository (yuck!!) and the rectum definitely showed histological changes.
  21. Hi Jane, It looks like only IgA for anti-gliadin and total serum IgA were run. The full panel is: Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA Total Serum IgA Also, what are the reference ranges for the tests that were run? (The reference range says what a healthy person's number...

  23. Hi Marlene, I'm not a techie and I'm a newbie to this forum but I notice this happens to my posts sometimes here. But what's weird is that people respond to them while they're MIA. Can you see your post in your control panel or your profile page? I can usually see mine there even if they take a day to work their way onto the forum itself. Seems everyone...
  24. At least you have a sense of humor about it. We're here to support each other, so don't worry about us thinking you're a moron. Go and "sin" no more.
  25. Hey, it happens. My second week on the diet, I went to PF Changs, had a gluten-free meal, avoided the wheat-based soy sauce, etc. etc. etc. When the waitress brought the check, she brought us fortune cookies. I went on auto-pilot and took a bite of mine after reading the fortune. I couldn't believe I was so spaced out that I ate a COOKIE! Anyway...
