  1. This probably isn't new news to all, but it was a happy, happy find! We regularly buy chips from Michael Season's and I sent the snack-pack sizes to camp with my DD earlier this summer. The chips are organic and only have a few ingredients (gluten not being one of them) so I felt safe buying them. She ate them with no problems. What I am REALLY happy...
  2. I wonder in that scenario, though, if wheat would actually be listed as an ingredient. Hmmmm. Just as a quick-check, the ingredients for Kraft Blue Cheese dressing don't list wheat, either.
  3. I asked about bleu cheese specifically at my daughter's visit with the nutritionist, simply because it's my favorite dressing and want to keep it in the house (DD doesn't like it). She said basically the same thing, that it's cultured on bread that contains wheat and is almost inherently CC.
  4. I talked to a guy named Jordan when I called 303-ROCKIES and he said you could bring your own food as well.
  5. For me it's been a HUGE timesaver. I don't go all-out with animal shapes (although I might at some point), but I have a very busy household. Hubby and I both work full time, DS goes to preschool full time and DD is going into 5th grade (is in summer programs right now). I do make an effort to keep things colorful and different every day. Even if it's the...
  6. My DD didn't take to the Ian's either so next time I'm close to a whole foods I'll pick up the Bell & Evans. Next to pasta w/ parmesan, chicken nuggets were her favorite food pre-Celiacs. I'm not very kitchen-inclined so I can see attempting to make my own go very, very badly.
  7. Hi there! I live here in Denver (in fact, my DS is on a field trip at Coors Field right now!). I haven't been there since my DD was diagnosed, but I did look on the Coors Field web site to find information about concessions. It looks to me like you could probably find something although it would make me nervous since there's so much gluten there! Ultimate...
  8. We live in Arvada, CO and are less than 2 miles from a Vitamin Cottage, so that's where we get most of our speciality gluten-free foods (our Tinkyada, Gillian's, Kinnickinick). The Safeway and King Soopers near us have what we need to supplement as well. Whole Foods and Wild Oats are a decent drive for us, so unless we're near one on accident or are in a...
  9. I have to say, this is the best thread ever. I'm drooooling!
  10. When I look WAYYYY back, I'd have to say the knock-kneed would have been the first "symptom" but it by itself would have been no indicator of Celiac by itself. I dont' think my DD will ever love sports either. She's VERY into acting, though, which has escalated into doing more singing and *dancing* which of course, is very good exercise! She also plays...
  11. My 9 year old DD and your 9 year old DD would get along very well! Her favorite meal pre-Celiac was pasta with butter and parmesan. She also hated sports and was "knock-kneed" and had emotional meltdowns on a regular basis. Very few of her symptoms were GI related although she did have burping fits, "acid reflux," and persistent tummy aches. As a first...
  12. I am going to bring up the Laptop Lunches as a fundraiser at DD's school as well. I have not had any trouble with food migrating w/out lids and just being in the main container and we have had no problems with the small box lid leaking at all. I was hesitant about leakage as well but so far so good. I've used it for salsa, salad dressing, peanut butter...
  13. My heart breaks a little every time I see that look. Sadly, there's really no fixing it. My DD also did not have severe symptoms and it's so tempting sometimes to give in, but you just can't. I have a 3 year-old DS who's gluten status is unkown at this point (we think he's not Celiac, though) and one of our favorite things at the grocery store...
  14. I did a quick peek at the label when I cleaned the fridge this weekend and it was indeed cider vinegar (not cider flavored). I'm thinking either it was a bad batch or she managed to pick it up from somewhere else that I just can't think of.
  15. Wow! Thanks so much! Glad to know I was going to make the right call (and y'all seem very passionate about your cookies!!). Her standard fave right now is the Pamela's Double Chocolate we can get in the store when we do our regular shopping but boy will she be happy w/ "Oreos". I'll have to whip up a "Blizzard" for her, too!
  16. I think I gave my hubby a heart attack when I told him I spent $50 on a lunchbox but now that we've used it (like, every single day) he is much more supportive (I even saw him bragging about it to his folks). I don't go all out with bento shapes and stuff, but I do try to make lunch colorful for her and I always seem to be able to pack something different...
  17. For some reason that sentence makes me laugh. It's so so so so true.
  18. How did it go while you were in Denver? I'm interested to hear your experience here since I live here and dining out is always such a challenge. Good or bad, I wanna know!
  19. They ARE really awesome. I've only had the Laptop Lunches thing for a little more than a month, so no real way to tell as far as ware. However, I don't put the containers in the microwave. (I slip in a paper plate if she wants to microwave her food--she'll only be able to do that at day camp, though, school doesn't have a microwave). Plus, only top...
  20. I definitely say go with the carrying case. I'd be afraid it would pop open in a backpack or something, especially since the containers inside the box don't always have lids. Plus, with the carrying case, you can slip in a thin ice-pack (which you can order as well) to help keep cold foods cold. I seriously balked at spending what I spent on a lunchbox...
  21. My DD turns 10 in a little less than a month (I can't believe I've been a mom for almost ten years!). Her FAVORITE FAVORITE FAVORITE cookie pre-Celiacs were Oreos (and Oreo Blizzards of course!). Well, obviously she doesn't eat them any more but I would REALLY love to have some almost-Oreos for her birthday! I've seen a few gluten-free varieties of...
  22. I swear by Bento and Laptop Lunches. It makes lunch SO EASY to pack and she LOVES her lunchbox (and so do all the other kids). All the other kids at her day camp voted her "best lunch" without even knowing she was eating gluten-free! That made her feel awesome! She usually eats leftovers from dinner and I'll add in a fresh fruit. It's also awesome...
  23. I love when there's a thread like this that is so timely to what I'm going through! My DD spent the night at my FILs this weekend, and although FIL and SMIL have tried to "get it" about gluten they still just "don't." My SMIL even said she didn't understand how "something like a crumb of bread could cause such damage." Unfortunately, I forgot to use the...
  24. Lunch has been my biggest challenge as well and it has mostly been packing fresh foods and leftover for dinners for my DD, 9, with Celiacs. We also got this nifty lunchbox from Open Original Shared Link. It's a little pricey for a lunchbox, but well worth it!! (We got an extra set of containers in addition to the kit). It makes it easy to pack fresh foods...
  25. Nope. Everything in the house is gluten-free.
