ARCHIVED How Long Did It Take You To Stop Hating Celiac?
buffettbride replied to a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I can't really add anything to that but I feel the same way. I don't have it but my DD does and I'd give anything to take it from her. -
ARCHIVED I Had An Awesome Lunch Out!

That is awful Susan. But you did the right thing by leaving. I even emailed Chipotle after our experience there and it was a very non-apologetic response that didn't even seem to take my concerns seriously. -

Same here. The one by us the people barely speak English and they looked at me like a moron when I asked them not to put the corn tortilla on the flour press and when I asked them to change gloves before handling my DDs food. We haven't been back. Such a shame since the flour tortillas and one saude are the only items there with gluten. -
DD = Dear Daughter DS = Dear Son DW = Dear Wife DH = Dear Hubby, Dorky Hubby, etc. Sorry to hear about the glutening zarfkitty. I was just thinking about you today and your Onigiri expertise! Feel better soon!

ARCHIVED To Start School Or Not To Start School
buffettbride replied to JennyC's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My DD has a birthday like your son. She had just turned 5 before starting Kindergarten. She was very ready, both socially and academically so it was a no-brainer for me. My son (who is not Celiac), if he had a summer birthday, I might wait the extra year. He is a February kid, though, so he'll be 5 1/2 before Kindergarten starts (he's 3 1/2 now). He's... -
ARCHIVED Capri Sun
buffettbride replied to gdobson's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We've tried many kinds and I've seen on various sites they are gluten-free. We purchase them fairly regularly and never have had a problem with them. -
You must be a Parrothead too.

ARCHIVED Follow-up Results From Ttgs

From what I understand under 20 is considered normal so I'd SWAG at 65+ being "elevated." I'm no doctor of course but I bet there is some leeway. I could be completely wrong though... Seems like a large scale with some room for error--which would explain why some people show negative in a blood test, but still have troubles with gluten. -

Here is what we use for Caramel Dip: Open Original Shared Link. I can't remember what we used for chocolate as we've been on a caramel kick lately. It was some syrupy goo from a bottle though. If you click on product information you'll see nutrition stuff and it's very clearly marked gluten free. -
ARCHIVED Question For Laptop Lunch Users

My daughter has not reported any leakage (liquid or smell) between containers. If it's something really wet I'll put it in the container with the lid. Other than that, things don't seep from container to container. We've loved ours. I love packing DDs lunch and she likes to see what I've come up with each day. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Graham Crackers A Bust
buffettbride replied to buffettbride's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
You're not kidding! We tried some amaranth crackers earlier this week. They are free of the top 8 allergens, gluten, corn, and rice. I was wondering what exactly could be in them! I'm convinced they are made from cardboard---gack. I wouldn't feed them to a dog! -

Oh my goodness!!! That sounds dreamy!!! I'll have to ask DD tonight where she stands on cheesecake. I'm not sure she was a fan pre-gluten-free, but I bet with the right topping she'd think it was a slice of heaven!!! What an awesome thing to make for the holidays too. I always loved baking cheesecake---just haven't had the time lately. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Graham Crackers A Bust

I purchased some gluten-free graham crackers at Vitamin Cottage (a store in CO) from a new local company called Out of the Breadbox. I was pretty excited about them and so was DD, but alas, they fall into the nasty buscuit category. They tasted burnt, not sweet at all. I figure with a little butter and some added sugar, though I could probably make... -
ARCHIVED Ugggghhhh, Lucas Got Glutened...
buffettbride replied to Ridgewalker's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
What is SOOOO frustrating is there is only like 2 items at Chipotle with gluten: flour tortillas and one of the sauces. Everything else is naturally gluten-free. You'd think it would be a piece of (gluten-free) cake! It can't be that difficult to use clean hands to put some rice and pork into a corn tortilla. But nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. (Can you... -

We are fans of Pamela's as well, although we've only made pancakes with it. I think I'm going to try some banana bread this weekend with it since I have some overripe bananas to get rid of. DD LOVED my banana bread so it should be a real treat for her. DD also had the dark circles. I'd say it took about a month for them to clear up...they come right... -

That stinks. Poor little guy. I have felt the EXACT same way ordering many, many times. I haven't braved McDonald's yet, but we tried Chipotle on the first day DD was dxd (back in May 2007 as well!). First I couldn't get the lady to NOT put the corn tortilla on the press where all the other tortillas were pressed and she looked at me like I was totally... -

ARCHIVED Follow-up Results From Ttgs
buffettbride posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Two weeks ago DD had her first follow up appointment since being DXd Celiac in May. I never knew what her TTG levels were before, I was just told between the "elevated" TTGs and villous blunting from biopsy, she was Celiac. I called for the results to the follow up so I could find out what her initial levels were and what they are now. It couldn't have... -
Great article. Thanks for sharing. It's a good one to pass around to family and friends to help them "get it." It helps that it is in a mainstream magazine. WOOHOO!

ARCHIVED Crock Pot Or Time Bake Recipes?
buffettbride replied to lonewolf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
We do this one quite a bit: Open Original Shared Link We make sure to use gluten-free beef broth, we do add the liquid smoke (if you read the comments on the recipe you'll see that suggestion), and of course gluten-free BBQ sauce--Sweet Baby Rays is AWESOME. Our family loves pulled pork SO much and it's not even bothersome to just eat it without a... -
ARCHIVED Foods To Pack For On-the-go Lunches?

Ok, I'm a dork realizing you were asking for yourself and not your children. How embarassing. I still love those lunchboxes, though! They might even work for you. -
ARCHIVED Foods To Pack For On-the-go Lunches?
buffettbride replied to amberleigh's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Have you tried Open Original Shared Link ? We take ours EVERYWHERE. Lately my daughter has been on a homemade lunchable kick. I pack gluten-free crackers by Glutino with some cheese and I make little turkey rounds (they sell cheese squares just perfect for crackers). I also make PB and J or PB and Marshmallow fluff on a rice cake and put it in there... -

ARCHIVED Guilt
buffettbride replied to crittermom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Oh gosh. Well first of all, don't be too hard on yourself. Your child knows your intention is to always keep her healthy. Since you are her primary food-preparer, you are more likely to gluten her than anyone else. I know the first few weeks of gluten-free I certainly glutened DD more than anyone. I feel awful when it happens to DD, whether it was something... -
ARCHIVED It Is Offical!
buffettbride replied to Nikki'smom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It's kind of odd to congratulate you, but it is so nice to have a diagnosis--especially when so little damage had been done and you know just what to do to keep it from progressing. Soon it will become second nature to do the gluten-free thing and even with a largely asymptomatic child, you might even notice some changes for the better. Good luck...
