ARCHIVED Biting Inside Of My Cheeks
lob6796 replied to mamaloca2's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Interesting, I would have never connected the two. I do it alot (ugh the scars!), and my mom, who never knew she did it, went to a special dentist the other day and the lady goes "wow, you really bite your mouth alot, huh?" The dentist said she is probably doing it in her sleep without realizing it. I have Celiac, and she is suspected of having it. -
ARCHIVED Liquid Zantac - Alcohol Content?
lob6796 replied to bjshad's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I know with my daughter, when we put her on Zantac liquid the second time (recently when she was vomiting constantly) it seemed to make the vomiting worse. I took her off it, and now want to check on it having alcohol.. was not aware of that. Plus, this time it was flavored and I wonder what is in the grape flavoring. I have no answers for you, but thank... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-free Fast Foods?
lob6796 replied to mama2two's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You have to use the drop down menu to get to the rest of the foods. Things like fries, potato cakes, etc are listed as gluten/wheat free, but now I don't think I would trust any of their nutritional info. Plus, I am sure they do not have a dedicated fryer. -
ARCHIVED Gluten-free Fast Foods?
lob6796 replied to mama2two's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Actually, I just took a closer look at the Arby site and sent off a letter to them. They have wheat and gluten listed as two different allergens. And they say their popcorn chicken (breaded! hello!) contains wheat but not gluten... um ok.... -
ARCHIVED Most Likely Deficiencies With Iron Anemia?
lob6796 replied to kalistys's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hmm, odd that he would say he doesn't know what else to test you for. There is a specific panel that tests for enzyme levels, etc in your blood. It would include B12, iron, D, etc. -

Sure Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Just a few... type in any chain fast food joint into google, go to their nutrition page, and they usually have a section for allergens -
ARCHIVED Does This Sound Like Anemia Or B12 Deficiency?
lob6796 replied to ami27's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
B12 is an "easy fix". My B12 was a little low so my doctor gave me a shot right in the office. He said "If you call me in two days to tell me you feel like a million bucks, we know that was your problem!" Unfortunately that wasn't the problem, lol. I am on an iron supplement as well since that was a little low. The B12 is a nice fix because you inject it... -
ARCHIVED How Did They Find Out Celiac's React To Gluten?
lob6796 replied to Jesse E's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I will look for you as I don't know of any off hand. But I will say that there are plenty of people who tested positive through blood work AND biopsy that went 100% gluten free, yet still use things like potato starch, corn starch, etc and after years of use of those starches, their intestines are in great health and symptom free still. I will have to read... -
Yes just stick to what you know. you might want to check out some sites on the elimination diet - alot of times they have great ideas of food you can eat while on that diet (eliminates the major food allergens), and you could transfer that into meals for yourself. Also, some gluten free products are made with corn or soy flour, bean flour, etc - so look into...

ARCHIVED gluten-free Restaurant Menus Online
lob6796 replied to laurie1067's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Bugaboo Creek has their gluten free menu online as well -
My doc put me on a low dose of amitriptyline (25mg) for my sleep issues. I take it about 1/2 hour before I'm ready for bed and not only does it help me get to sleep, but it helps me STAY asleep which is a huge issue for me. Ambien CR is a really good one too - helps you get to sleep and then slow dissolves to get you to stay asleep. I've been on both, the...

Thanks for replying. I wanted to hear from someone who actually knew what DH looked like first hand - would feel dumb to get all worried over something that is just a normal part of Celiac. It's hard to know from the descriptions online what the rash REALLY looks like. So thanks for giving me that answer

ARCHIVED Iga Positive - Always Celiac? Or Just Sensitivity?
lob6796 replied to bjshad's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It is my understanding that a positive IgA means Celiac for sure. A negative IgA doesn't mean she doesn't have Celiac (since some are IgA defiecient). So I would say yes, she has Celiac disease and you could approach official diagnosis through her pedi. That said, you don't NEED a diagnosis to go gluten free with her. In fact, a gluten free diet (with or... -
ARCHIVED Another Period Question
lob6796 replied to lob6796's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't get my period while I am on depo. I've stopped taking depo because it causes irreversible bone loss. Off of depo though, I normally get my period (in the past) after 3 mos or so. In 3 years I've probably been on depo for 6 months. I might see an obgyn about it... I don't have one at the moment but it may be worth looking into. Hopefully she... -
My daughter (2.5) started getting this odd rash yesterday on the back of her hip. Today it is larger (an oval about 4 inches long, 2.5 inches wide at widest). Now tonight I noticed it is starting on her other hip in the exact same spot. Her skin is red and slightly rough feeling, with dark red bumps scattered through it. I don't know if it is related or not...

ARCHIVED Another Period Question
lob6796 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I went to the doc yesterday because of an unrelated issue and while I was there they asked when my last period was. Now this wasn't my regular doc, he was out so I was seeing a nurse practitioner. I can't remember the last time I had my period. Some time before I had my daughter probably? She is 2.5. I was on depoprovera for a bit after I had her, but I honestly... -
ARCHIVED Question For Ladies Regarding Periods
lob6796 replied to cornflakegirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Has her thyroid been tested at all? The tiredness and hairgrowth, messed up cycles could all be thyroid issues. I would ask him to check her iron, her B12, and her thyroid. Throwing in a fell serum panel for celiac would be a good idea too. IgA, IgG, tTG, EMA and total IgA will give you a good picture. I hope she starts feeling better soon. -
ARCHIVED Want To Have Child Tested
lob6796 replied to Jo.R's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would ask him to test her for IgA/IgG anti-gliadin. Those two are the most conclusive in children. The others (EMA and tTG) are much more useful but often a false negative in kids because of their low immune systems. My daughter's tests came back negative, but where I was positive and her symptoms are so typical of celiac, I am requesting a biopsy. I was... -
ARCHIVED New Here And Overwhelmed
lob6796 replied to sneezydiva's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I could have written your post. As a child I was constantly underweight. Dubbed a picky eater, my doctor said the same to my mom - if there's something she WILL eat, then let her eat all she wants of it. I always slept alot, but around college the true fatigue kicked in big time along with joint pain. Fast forward 5 years later and I go to my doctor for chronic... -
ARCHIVED How Long For Blood Results?
lob6796 replied to tmk's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My hospital sends out celiac testing to another lab, and it took 3 weeks for results. Depending on if you are from a city or out in the country, it may be a while. Hang tight. And remember, kep eating gluten - they may want a biopsy after the blood tests and if you aren't still eating gluten, it won't come out correctly. Good luck! -
ARCHIVED Newbie With A Question
lob6796 replied to EBsMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter began life with severe reflux, and a moderately delayed digestive system. She was put on medication for both, found allergic to milk and soy as well. Around 1.5 years, she seemed to be getting better. Fast track to 2 years and she began throwing up all of the time again. She was doing the signature coughing and clearing her throat alot, and her... -
I have to say that for some, the big D is the most life changing aspect. My father drives an oversize load truck for a living, and we live out in the middle of no where. No matter what the poor guy eats, he is stopping this ENORMOUS truck in the middle of a road, basically blocking off all traffic, and running off into the woods. Thank god we live out in...

I get it from gluten, milk, soy, coffee, beef, and certain types of oils - like those chips with olestra. Too much fruit will do it, as will too many nuts. lol.. so much!

ARCHIVED Daughter Going For Diagnostic Biopsy
lob6796 posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I've been convinced that regardless of her negative blood results, because of her symptoms and age, that she should be biopsied. What should I expect? She is 2, so it makes me so nervous.
