This is the Gluten-Free Celiac Disease Forum. If one has Celiac disease, one doesn't consume gluten. Wheat, Barley, & Rye contain gluten. Beer is made from malted barley. Celiacs don't drink beer. Perhaps you people don't have Celiac Disease.
best regards, lm
not really sure this type of attitude is necessary... A lot of people react differently to celiac disease, Mountaineer Josh- Just because you're not having a reaction to the beer, doesn't mean that it isn't doing some serious internal damage. If you were diagnosed then I think it's best you don't drink beer, even if you don't have a negative reaction. My ex-boyfriends father is a Celiac, a diagnosed Celiac, who doesn't react to certain foods so he eats them...never once have I questioned his diagnosis. Just because someone has Celiac Disease, doesn't mean they're going to follow the directions and do what's best for them.
no need for rudeness.

I just can't justify paying 80 bucks for a variety 3 pack of pizza......
I'd order from so many of these places but I just simply can't afford it!

If you can eat seafood...go to the mom and pop seafood places...They're willing to work with you in every way. Depending on where you're staying, I've eaten out in places in Murrells Inlet and Pawleys Island. There's a Carrabba's and always Chick-Fil-A. Cheeseburger in Paradise is in Myrtle Beach as well as Sticky Fingers that offer gluten-free choices, as long as you ask to speak to a manager at any place, they're usually very good about it. I usually stick to straight seafood because they rarely mess that up.
Also, all of the Food Lion's and Lowe's Food have organic/gluten free sections in their stores so you have items that you can purchase if you don't feel comfortable eating out.
Hope this helps.

wine coolers are safe??
since when?

I drink like 3 sodas a day...which is so unhealthy I know...but I can't eat so many other things and I'll be danged if I'm going to give up my soda too.....I don't have reactions to it though that I've noticed, I know that a lot of people are more sensitive than myself though... i don't know how people can do it, living caffiene free...I'd be a walking zombie

um........you found moldy Chex and no one else thinks to comment on that?
I've never seen a purple chex....I'm confused by this. What do you mean that they are made in a way that mold grows?
-
I can't find them either. They used to be at whole foods and trader joes and I haven't found them at either.
The last time I got them, I special ordered them and even that took over a month.

Apparently Cheerwine is growing and moving beyond North Carolina into Atlanta...my parents sent me the article yesterday, so naturally the first thing I did was email the company asking if Cheerwine was gluten free..
here is their answer: "Although we claim Cheerwine to be gluten free, anytime you have a corn product you can have cross pollination that allows trace amounts of gluten in it. None of our ingredients including the coloring have wheat by products or any major gluten contributor."
Thoughts?
I'm impressed with his knowledge, that's for sure!

I gotta tell you though......those mom and pop restaurants in Podunk are the BEST....Corporate companies care so much less about customer service. My family has long vacationed in Pawleys Island, SC and we stop at small seafood joints all the time and have the best experiences....I'll give my money to their business before the corporate man any day.
But I do miss those delicious chedder biscuits from Red Lobster.

I've been on Yasmin for over 4 years...I've called the company, as have my doctors to assume me that it's gluten free. I've never had any problems with it! But hey..if you think it's the source of your pain I totally think you should change it, I've heard Yaz is a great birth control as well.
-
I actually had to stop eating Amy's products because they made me so sick....

Are you sure that you're getting the No Gluten Nana's Cookies? there are some normal ones, some No Wheat and No Gluten............just because it says No Wheat doesn't mean that there isn't gluten in it and sometimes this easily missed? I eat the No Gluten ones with no problems, but everyone is different

I believe that the real answer is no, Hornsby's Cider is not safe...

Does anyone else always feel like they have to number 2 after eating? I had a UTI and ever since then, it seems like my system is a lot more sensitive than it was before. I'm really strict, I've been gluten free for 4 years...but now I just can't seem to get a normal cycle...like everytime after I eat I feel like I need to use the restroom...sometimes it is an emergency, sometimes it's not...but even after I go, I still feel like I might have to again. Could I be eating too much in one sitting that is making my stomach feel like that? Or do you think it might be anxiety...that I think I'm going to get sick so I do...
it's frustrating!! and makes me want to stop eating.

I know this probably is not what you want to hear...but I had to get my tonsils out because of it...it never did clear up

It makes me mad that they even asked us for votes and asked what we want when Allergies got the popular vote but "everybody has pets" so she'll sell more...I think it's ridiculous....I won't be buying all of Martha's magazines just to see when they decide they want to put a special recipie or article in there. This goes to show that Martha doesn't really care about what her fans want she cares about making more money...as if she needs more..

I'm completely 100% fine with people thinking it's we're trendsetters......its our in to start educating everyone which will open tons of doors for us when the "trend" lessens.
besides..I'm pretty cool and trendy to begin with, as are the majority of you on this here little board..it's only natural for people to want to be as cool and smart as us!!

There are SO many local restaurants there that you can call (during off hours...aka not near dinner time) that will gladly work with you and any issues that you have. There are wonderful seafood places that you can eat and steakhouses that will work around your issues if you just give someone a heads up!! Barefoot Landing has wonderful places in NMB that will help you (Greg Norman's joint)...however, if you're nervous, there is always Chick-fil-a!

Hopefully you put them in the freezer upon arrival even with your hesitation. As long as they were still packed tightly and kept cool there shouldn't be any problems with the items that you received. They're shipped in a timely fashion but while they can't forsee the climate issues, even if they're defrosted a little it doesn't spoil the items that quickly if they're immediately refrozen. That's at least my take on the situation and I'm sure what Scott or his assistant will tell you about it.
Maybe others could weigh in on the topic but I think you're fine!

I've never heard of a wine having gluten.
-
I eat there all the time...I trust the ingrediant lists, if it doesn't say wheat and the rest of the ingrediants look acceptable, I see no reason why you couldn't have it...unless you have some other allergy...however, i'm sure some people wouldn't touch it because they don't trust it, it's really up to you!

I had the same problem...got really sick after ordering from the gluten-free menu...they even said "here's the gluten-free so and so" when they brought it out...this was in Georgia

I'm sorry...mandatory?? There is no one sitting here to hold my hand and force me to follow the diet, I choose to follow the diet because it makes me feel healthier, I know several people who choose not to follow the diet because of whatever personal reason and they deal with the consequences. So yes, while the treatment remains the same, some people do not noticeably react when they consume gluten. Nothing is mandatory...most people won't immediately die if they eat gluten, they just get sick...and if people want to be sick all the time, that's their decision.
Like I said in my post...just because you're consuming gluten and don't notice a reaction doesn't mean that it isn't doing damage, even if your antibody levels don't jump up.
