ARCHIVED What Tests Do I Need To Ask For?WW340 replied to Wolicki's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease You should be checked for vit. b 12, TSH, iron and vit. D at a minimum. If you have been sick for a long time, you need all the fat soluable vitamins checked, A, D, E and K. You should also have a bone density done.

ARCHIVED How Often Do You Get Glutened?WW340 replied to Crayons574's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease I rarely ever get glutened anymore. If I do it is from eating in an unfamiliar restaurant, which I totally try to avoid. I know which restaurants I can trust locally, and they know me. I cook everything fresh at home, and my family eats what I cook. They have their bread, crackers and cereal, but that is it. I take food with me to friend and family gatherings...

ARCHIVED Abnormal Gallbladder- Symptom Of Celiacs?WW340 replied to terribeth07's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms I had my gallbladder out several years before I was diagnosed with celiac. I did not have stones, my gallbladder was found to be infected when they got it out. My mother had the same thing. She had no stones, but her gallbladder was turning gangrenous by the time they took it out. I am pretty certain I got my disease from her, as she died of intestinal...

ARCHIVED Celiac Panel Results - Help?WW340 replied to gatewaytobeing's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms The tests you had done are not the typical celiac panel. It would be difficult to make a celiac determination based on these numbers alone. That along with the very low IGG make this difficult to interpret, as it is possible the low IGG could be affecting the results. I think your low IGG definitely needs to be evaluated further. Your GYN needs to refer...

ARCHIVED Northwest Arkansas, Anyone?WW340 replied to Connie R-E's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff The cheapest way is to first of all primarily use naturally gluten free items. Secondly, shop at walmart and buy what they have gluten free - such as the great value au gratin potatoes, chex cereal, hormel chili with beans etc. Then I buy what I want in specialty items on line. Amazon has a large selection. The only problem is that you generally have...

ARCHIVED Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuits--copycat RecipeWW340 replied to Fiddle-Faddle's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips I am so glad you brought this thread back up. Somehow, I had missed it before. I made Fiddle-Faddle's recipe today and loved it.

ARCHIVED The New ChexWW340 replied to taweavmo3's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications I am very sensitive and I have had no problems with the new honey nut chex. I cannot eat a lot of any kind of grain, even gluten free grains. I get symptoms similar to glutening when I over do it. Could your daughter be eating more grains than she is accustom to eating?

I am the same way. Stress can set me off also. I get called to jury duty all the time. I was in a jury pool for a big murder case that involved the death penalty. Luckily, the jury was selected just before they got to me. They were sequestered for 5 weeks. That would be a real problem for a celiac.

ARCHIVED Went To A Wedding....and I Was So Green With Envy...WW340 replied to foodiegurl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Sorry this is making you sad. I have been there, too. Honestly, it no longer bothers me. You are at the point when I found the diet to be the hardest. I felt a terrible sense of loss from about the 2 - 4 month point. But it does get better, I promise. I really just hate going out now due to the risk of getting something that will make me sick...

ARCHIVED Problems Filling UpWW340 replied to gputman's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications I was hungry all the time when I first went gluten free. I finally greatly increased my protein intake and reduced my carbs, and that took care of the problem. If you don't have other food intolerances, try having more eggs, lean meats, nuts and peanut or other nut butters. I have never eaten so many eggs in my life, but now they are a staple in my diet...

I use the salton yogurt maker. It works great, there are lots of tips for making yogurt many different methods in the amazon reviews for the machine. I use the mason jars in the machine. I bought a dry yogurt starter, which is more convenient for me. Warning though, homemade yogurt can be addictive.

ARCHIVED Endoscopy/biopsyWW340 replied to noobasaur's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Usually, nexium is used to treat GERD, which occurs in the upper gastrointestinal tract. Your doctor may be referring to damage to the duodenum, which could be caused by GERD. Since celiac and crohn's can also cause damage to the small intestine, it would be good to know for sure that those have been ruled out. I would suggest that you talk to your doctor...

ARCHIVED Endoscopy/biopsyWW340 replied to noobasaur's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Just because you have had a lot of tests, including endoscopy, does not mean your doctor has tested for celiac. Generally, they test for that only if they have some suspicion you may have the disease. Some doctors will be very thorough and test during routine workup, but most only do it if it is something they believe you may have. If the doctor found...

I hope you are able to get some answers, and will someday be able to eat again. I feel thankful for that at least. It does sound like we have some similiarities for sure. I also have to take potassium supplements. I have salt cravings, so I guess I eat enough salt to keep from going low on that. I have been tested twice for HIV, as they didn't believe...

ARCHIVED How Would You Handle This Situation?WW340 replied to Traveller's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants I have frequently encountered servers that are unaware of the gluten free menu. Usually they will go ask someone else and come back with the menu and some new guidance. I don't let it discourage me, unless the server seems unwilling to learn or pay attention. It becomes a learning experience for the server, which is a good thing. Some of my favorite...

It is a little too early to tell whether this is going to blow up into a true pandemic, or just burn out. The season is right for a burnout, so hopeully that is what we will see. We cannot really take comfort in the fact that we have better medical care here, are generally healthy, and have not seen deaths from this yet. The truth is that we have not...

Eosinophilic gastroenteritis is one thing my GI thinks I may have. I will be getting scoped again in the near future, as I am still having abdominal problems and malabsorption. I cannot keep my vitamin and mineral levels up without mega doses. When I had my EGD 2 years ago, the biopsy came back positive for lots of eosinophils. I also have high blood...

ARCHIVED Easy, Yummy Bread In MinutesWW340 replied to lonewolf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips Thank you Lonewolf for the recipe. I made it to have with soup for lunch. It is good, though my first one came out dry. I used millet in place of flax, because that is what I had. I will get some flax and see if that makes it not so dry. I also microwaved for 90 seconds, so will try cutting down on time. Thanks also to Roda, for suggesting grinding...

ARCHIVED Best State To Live In For The gluten-free Diet?WW340 replied to crayola's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Tulsa Oklahoma is a great place for celiacs. One of the best restaurants in town is owned and run by a chef with celiac. More than half his menu is gluten free. Almost any restaurant you go into there has a gluten free menu. Plus, there is a PF Changs, Pew wei, and all the other national chains that have a gluten free menu. They have 3 large food stores...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Products Featured At My Sam's Club TodayWW340 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications My husband and I went shopping at Sam's today and I was pleasantly surprised to see food demostrations everywhere with gluten free items. They featured their gluten free crackers by Crunchmasters, which I love, along with lots of different cheeses and gluten free dips. Everywhere I turned in the store, there were gluten free items to try. It was a lot...

ARCHIVED I Am Having A Hard Time With This!WW340 replied to johncgaiser's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs I am the celiac, and my house is mostly gluten free. All meals are made by me and are gluten free. My husband and my son both say we eat better than we ever did before. They love our home cooked meals. They both have their own bread and sometimes cookies or cinnamon rolls. If I will keep the gluten free items baked, they would just as soon have my...

ARCHIVED Everytime I Get Gluten Free For 6 Days Or More I Get Gluten AgainWW340 replied to UnhappyCoeliac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease I am sorry you are having a tough time. I can understand how this would be harder while in school. The main issue with eating gluten free is that it requires better planning. I don't subject myself to risk by having my food planned all the time. I have gluten free chips that I keep in the pantry, and keep a small baggie of them in my car. I always...
