  1. Last time I was there I ate Chinese. You should visit the National Mall, everything is free, but it will be busy!
  2. Sounds great!
  3. If you figure out the things causing your symptoms then you should be fine. Before I was diagnosed I didn't let being ill stop me. I still traveled, played sports, and went to school. Since you know what is making you ill it should be easier to fix. There are simple ways to maintaining this diet overseas, as well. When I went to Europe I did just fine...
  4. How great your server knew! Woo! What did you eat?
  5. I put this on hold at the library. Can't believe she'd cheat like that- especially at a White House event! There, if anywhere, could they cater to dietary restrictions, I am sure. It is way better not to eat than to cheat. Anyways, I'll read the book when it comes in and see how I like it.
  6. Hello, and welcome to the board! Your symptoms can come in a whole wide variety and can come differently based on what you ate, when you ate it, what was in your belly, and so on. You can even have damage done without a noticeable outward symptom. That makes this disease very tricky!
  7. Everyone is different and have different reactions. Before being gluten-free I could eat bread and not have an instant reaction but if I ate whole wheat bread I was suddenly ill. The same for milk products: I could drink a glass of milk and be so ill but could eat tons of chocolate with only having issues later. Wheat will always have gluten in it....
  8. When I went to Spain, I e-mailed a Celiac organization and they helped me out. I also joined a Spanish Celiac website for the city I was staying in. If you speak French, that would be good. I eat dairy-free, too. If I ever doubted ingredients, I would ask people to help me. I told them what i couldn't have and they double checked the Spanish for me....
  9. The fries probably did it. If they are fried with gluten then you are basically eating the gluten, too. Also, a percentage of people with Celiac Disease have reactions to oats, even if gluten-free. However, it sounds like you got sick soonish after the fries.
  10. There are loads of symptoms for Celiac disease and those are some of them. Have you tried not eating gluten?
  11. Well, you sure have the symptoms, and your daughter has it. So, there is a higher chance you do, too. It is worth getting tested for.
  12. My go-to dinner is stir fry. We fry all our veggies in oil and soy sauce on the stove until tender. We boil the rice noodles like the package says. Mmm, so simple and so yummie!
  13. Oh, I ate there! It was great and a nice little health food store was near by! Ah, good times!
  14. Anything with regular milk in it is going to have casein. Lactaid wouldn't help me after awhile so I removed all lactose and casein from my diet and felt much better.
  15. I make my own bread all the time. Check out the recipes section and people have posted their favourites! I use a gluten-free mix but most do it from scratch.
  16. I like to watch for Amazon sales of gluten-free stuff. It is cheaper in bulk and sometimes when thet do sales and have free shipping it is worth it. I also stick to lots of rice and veggies. Plus, I coupon like crazy on everything, so, I save and can get the more expensive gluten-free things I like.
  17. Oh, you'll love Barcelona! Lots to eat, good shopping, and too much have fun! Here is a post I made after returning from Europe. I listed everywhere I shopped gluten-free and ate gluten-free. For the most part, I was in Madrid, but I did visit Barcelona and included those restaurants and shops. Have fun and report back! https://www.celiac.com/gluten...
  18. Try going on a gluten-free diet and see the results. You have a family history, so, it's worth a shot!
  19. Well, despite what tests say, if you feel better off gluten then why not stay off. The diet is worth trying and after you get used to it, it is pretty easy!
  20. Hmm, I don't know! What I do know is: If you ever spill it on the floor, DO NOT use a wet towel to pick it up. It becomes one gooey mess.
  21. Well, I wanted to learn French Manicures so I studied up and when I have had a stressful time, I sit and give myself one. It takes awhile and is calm and quiet. I also got books and videos for my boyfriend to learn better massage techniques.
  22. Well, you need to be eating gluten everyday for a few weeks to have proper results. Even if the results are negative, you could try being 100% gluten-free. If you feel better, then stick with it, right?
  23. Only when I am outside and the pollen levels are high.
  24. It takes awhile to get the in and outs of this diet. I am a recent college graduate and know how hard it is managing school. The best way to make sure you are off the gluten is to eat naturally gluten-free things. Sounds boring but you can do a lot. Fresh fruits, veggies, meat, and rice. These items can be cheap, too, especially at little ethnic stores...
