ARCHIVED Recovery Time
MySuicidalTurtle replied to chris s's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Everyone is different and your system needs to clear and heal. My symptoms went away very fast but my body was healing and I couldn't eat spice or acid for weeks. My Brother and Mom took longer to see results. It is also hard to be 100% gluten-free right away. Slip ups are so easy and it's a real learning experience. -
ARCHIVED Gluten-fee - How Quickly Will I Feel Better?
MySuicidalTurtle replied to Jana315's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
For me, it was like a new world for me right away. The symptoms were just gone! I was so lucky but it caused me loads of anxiety. I couldn't believe that my symptoms could be truly gone so fast. Everyone is different, though. If you want to be tested, you have to be eating gluten, though, to get best results. -

ARCHIVED Gluten Free And Vegetarian Dinner Ideas?
MySuicidalTurtle replied to tkd723's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Oh, I love risotto and stir fry. Since it is nicer weather you should be able to get some delicious fresh veggies! You could do some grilling: kebabs or just veggies like egg plant, asparagus, potatoes, etc. Pasta is always an option, too, or even a loaded veggie pizza! The possibilities are endless, really. Have fun! -
ARCHIVED Help With Going Totally Gluten Free
MySuicidalTurtle replied to Genna'smom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
No, there is no varying of Celiac Disease. If you have it, you have it. Your baby girl needs to be 100% gluten-free. This, however, does not mean your family has to be. As long as you keep her stuff separate, then you're fine. Some families find it easier to all be gluten-free. My family is 3 out of 4 Celiac but my Father isn't gluten-free. I live... -
ARCHIVED Why Is There Often Weight Gain After gluten-free Diet?
MySuicidalTurtle replied to shirleyujest's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Actually, it seems like it goes either way. Loads of people lose weight (like me) and others gain it right away. It is probably just our bodies having reactions to not being ill anymore. Now I have problems keeping the weight off! -
ARCHIVED New To The Site...looking For Advice/input
MySuicidalTurtle replied to MsModelSara's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It is good that you are trying to find answers. If you are going to be tested then you must continue eating gluten everyday in order to have more accurate results. Symptoms to eating gluten when you have Celiac Disease suck. They can include long tummy aches and needing constant sleep. Sorry to hear your doctor is crap. Hopefully you can find another... -
ARCHIVED My Symptoms
MySuicidalTurtle replied to AWonderTree's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well, Celiac Disease does come with a lot of symptoms. It sounds like some are common but others you have I have never heard of. Hopefully your biopsy brings some answers. -

Mmm, sounds yummie! Good way to use extra produce, too. -
Last time I was there was years ago and I was not a vegan, yet, so I took advantage of the sea food and ate a lot of plain, fresh fish wherever we went. Sorry I can't be more specific! Have fun!

ARCHIVED Self-testing
MySuicidalTurtle replied to JBaby's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hello! First off, wheat will always have gluten but gluten won't always have wheat. As for casein and lactose. . .you can't really separate those since they are both in milk. Try keeping a food journal and doing an elimination diet. -

ARCHIVED First Post-diagnosis Trip
MySuicidalTurtle replied to FMcGee's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Hello! If you are really scared, you could always stock up on some items to take with you or buy there. Then, you could eat in your room and when everyone goes out to eat just join in for the fun and conversation. You could also try to just do a plain baked potato and salad, etc. It will be hard and frustrating but you can do it! Good luck and have fun... -
ARCHIVED Celiac? 'missing' Some Symptoms Though
MySuicidalTurtle replied to ijjoot's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hello! There is no harm in asking for some tests. Your symptoms do sound like Celiac Disease. We all do not have the same, or even "classic," symptoms. 3 of us in my family are diagnosed and all 3 of us have different symptoms. -
ARCHIVED Please, Help Needed.....
MySuicidalTurtle replied to DVjorge's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease

ARCHIVED The Merit Of A Diagnosis?
MySuicidalTurtle replied to invalidcharacter's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The only reasons to get officially diagnosed because you want to or are required medical proof for something. You can start an elimination diet and decide if the results are worth it. -
ARCHIVED Where Do I Start?
MySuicidalTurtle replied to Mama T's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hello! I think you'll find a lot of your answers in this forum. Just take a glance at the restaurants section and the shopping one, too. Regular oil is fine, regular spices like salt and peper will be fine. Always read the ingredients. No wheat, barley, gluten, rye, nor oats! It is hard becoming gluten-free, so, try sticking to naturally gluten-free... -
It really is hard going gluten-free, especially when it is a family thing, too. My Mom, my Brother, and I all have Celiac Disease. To be honest, our lives would have been MUCH better if we were diagnosed young. Going through school sick is the worst. At least when you know the problem, you can own it as part of your life, share it, and be healthy. There...

ARCHIVED Diagnosed 5 Days Ago..
MySuicidalTurtle replied to FrooFroo's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hello! There is plenty of gluten-free and dairy-free cheese. . .even some that melt! The past few years have just been great in that industry. I am a gluten-free vegan, so, I don't do dairy, either. I just had pizza this weekend, using a soy based cheese. It was great. The Celiac gene is different than say eye colour. However, I suffered my whole... -
ARCHIVED Went To A Wedding....and I Was So Green With Envy...
MySuicidalTurtle replied to foodiegurl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It takes awhile to get used to this new lifestyle. I like to make replicas of things I can't eat now. Even something as simple as pudding (gluten and casein-free)! You know you're much better off without the food but that doesn't mean you can't have the gluten-free equivalent. Without Celiac Disease, I may never have become the cook I am today! -
That sounds lovely!
