ARCHIVED Lentils
MySuicidalTurtle replied to Annaem's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My local grocery store sells two brands of bagged lentils. They look similar but one states it was made on the same lines as wheat products and the other says glutenfree. We can't be too careful! Even gluten-free lentils can be hard on your stomach if you aren't used to them. I like Tolerant's bean and lentil noodles. They are expensive but good. -
ARCHIVED What Cooking Items To Replace?
MySuicidalTurtle replied to KBart's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I wouldn't use the things you can't get clean- the cast iron and the cooking pot. The rest should be fine as long as you clean them well. -
ARCHIVED Back Again 8 Years Later
MySuicidalTurtle replied to SusanL's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I find a lot of gluten-free foods on Amazon, too. Sometimes it is cheaper on there than buying them at my local health food stores. -
ARCHIVED European Union Codex Standard (eucs) Bread Or Mixes.
MySuicidalTurtle replied to Imanistj's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I never ate the ones that were made from the wheat ingredients, but, when I was in Europe I found the gluten-free foods there to be WAY better than the ones here. The ones I ate were all vegan, as well. That's harder to find in the US. -
Just thought I would chime in to say that I do not get sick from Amy's food BUT I have never really eaten the ones that say "no gluten ingredients." Plus, I also only eat the dairy-free ones.

ARCHIVED I Cheated Today! :(
MySuicidalTurtle replied to Laurelf's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you have Celiac Disease you do damage regardless of how severe or not your reactions are. You cannot even fully heal if you are cheating. Plus, it makes those around you think that your disease, if you have it, is no big deal. It is a huge deal. -
ARCHIVED Dietician Said Not To Go Gluten Free If Negative Results
MySuicidalTurtle replied to Harley0000's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You should be on the diet for sure but your husband should only be on it if he feels better. There is no reason not to do the diet. . .it can be a choice for people who aren't allergic and who do not have Celiac Disease. I bet he'd feel better- most people do! Good luck! -
ARCHIVED Baking Time For Chocolate Brownie Or Cake Mixes
MySuicidalTurtle replied to KipperCat's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I find the chocolate stuff needs longer, too. It just depends on the brand, usually! -
ARCHIVED How Careful Do I Need To Be?
MySuicidalTurtle replied to SecondTwin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
There is no way I'd eat something that said may contain traces of wheat! As for the facility thing- it is up to you. When eating out you may need to tell them to clean the grill, etc., depending on what you are ordering. Any amount of gluten will harm you, even if you do not see the same symptoms. Good luck, and be careful! -
ARCHIVED Scholorships
MySuicidalTurtle replied to kristendeboer's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have never seen any, but it would be a good essay for applying to other ones. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Casein Free At Restaurants
MySuicidalTurtle replied to collins146's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I am a gluten-free vegan, so, I usually compare allergy menus if they have them. Sometimes places will make special food for me, too. It is harder but if you pick the right places it can be easy! -
ARCHIVED Moving Out New Issues
MySuicidalTurtle replied to selrdoor's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
You have to be serious about your food issues. Usually I just eat before going out or bring something with me to eat. That way I don't have to worry about being sick or finding nothing to eat. As for the storing of food issue- just have a set of your own things. That way they can't make comments and you know yours is in it's own container. It is hard... -

ARCHIVED How Might I Deal With College Dining Hall Food?
MySuicidalTurtle replied to AKcollegestudent's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
A lot of schools (including the one I went to) allow you to be exempt from plans like this due to medical reasons. It shouldn't be hard to get a doctors note. -

ARCHIVED Someone Please Set Me Straight!
MySuicidalTurtle replied to haleym's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It took me awhile to get used to my new, healthy body. There are gluten symptoms, dairy ones, normal belly ache pains, menstrual aches, etc. The best thing is to calm down and just think of what it could be. You'll get used to the difference between being glutened and having a normal tummy pain but not before having to deal with all the anxiety! Good... -
