  1. If they can't provide properly for you then you can ask to be off the meal plan and fend for yourself. There are laws and stuff about this sort of thing and being Celiac is considered as having a disability, so, they have to take it seriously. There is no reason that they can't give you nutritious and healthy food like they do the other students. . .eating...
  2. There are a lot of different fruit and granola bars, just look in a health food store. Ener-G also has a lot of options that do not expire fast. Good luck.
  3. Hello! I haven't found a lot to eat in DC except Chinese food (veggies with no soy sauce). Here are some links that list some places to try: Open Original Shared Link There is a Whole Foods in DC, great to find gluten-free food and a Trader Joes (not as much as Whole Foods but good): Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Some...
  4. A percentage of Celiacs can not tolerate oats, even gluten-free ones.
  5. Here are some North Carolina groups: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link
  6. There are so many good gluten-free spots in Manhattan that I wish I could eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner there every day. Here is a good list: Open Original Shared Link Have fun!
  7. I suffered for 17 years with undiagnosed Celiacs and like you was told IBS growing up until my doctor told me in High School that it was all in my head. It's not fun being sick when no one can help. If you aren't satisfied with what your tests say, try the diet. If you feel better then you have an answer. However, to have the tests you must be eating...
  8. Blood tests can give false negatives. My Mother had a negative despite having two positive children and great off-gluten results. If you are seeking further testing, you need to eat gluten while being tested because when you stop it will mess with the results. However, if you feel great without gluten then you already have your answer and really don't...
  9. The only brand I know of is Redbridge. Open Original Shared Link
  10. Skinny cow has an error because cow is less than 4 letters. Try using the left side Google search bar and it may turn up more.
  11. Hmm, I just graduated in July from college. I did not live on campus and they do not have meal plans, so, I do not know if I would be any help. You can PM if you need another person. Good luck!
  12. If I get a helpful person I always try to tip well but I don't have that much to give!
  13. I am a vegan and gluten-free. I eat a lot of fruits, veggies, tofu, and bake my own bread and pizza crust. I work out, too. Open Original Shared Link is a good site for veggie/vegan Celiacs. Good luck!
  14. I thought the same thing. My family and I (before I went eggless) just bought the english muffins and sliced them to our liking, thin or thick, and used them as our bread, muffins, and buns!
  15. A lot of people are "afraid" to get tested even if they are sick! Good luck with your family and keep your daughter's health your priority.
  16. This website is good: Open Original Shared Link "One celiac support group member, Marie Nogueria-Stamas says, 'I felt it was appropriate to place my child on a 504 Plan not to have her labeled as disabled but to ensure that she would be able to participate in as many activities as possible, with the correct accommodations.'"
  17. You can maybe get an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or 504 Plan. I would be concerned about your kid in school especially if she is so little. The teacher needs to pay attention more closely to her to make sure she doesn't eat what she can't and such. You can offer to make gluten-free Play-Doh or suggest they use gluten-free noodles in crafts. I...
  18. Hello! I spent last summer in Madrid and LOVED it. I miss it everyday. Most of the time I was in Madrid but visited Granada for a day (didn't eat there, though). Anyways, please read my thread about it and you will find everything I ate, where I ate, and all sorts of stuff: Open Original Shared Link Here are Spanish cards: Here is a printable...
  19. Follow Your Heart cheese is the BEST! It melts and is so yummy on pizza even my non vegan friends eat it. It gluten, dairy, and casein-free. Also, the pizza chain Pizza Fusion uses it for their vegan/dairy-free pizzas. It is that good. Open Original Shared Link
  20. I believe to make yogurt you have to start with a little bit of yogurt (to get the cultures). You could use a soy based one. I eat soy yogurt from time to time that is gluten, casein, and dairy-free and buy it at either Kroger or a health food store.
  21. They are truly awesome there. The nice guy busted out the ingredient book and washed out the blender for me. I had some sort of Berry Berry drink with sprite, ice, and two types of sorbet. So yummy and nice.
  22. I would strongly advise you to not eat gluten. Eating "a little" is the same as easting "a lot." A month into healing is great and cheating would set you back, seriously. For your health you need to be on this diet and will be your whole life so why stop for a week? There are easy ways to be gluten-free like sticking to fruits, veggies, and plain meats...
  23. Hmmm, there isn't much in the city. The Four Seasons' restaurant is EXCELLENT, though (and not far from the High but expensive). They will make you anything pretty much. My Mother and I went there (both Celiacs plus I am a vegan) and had amazing meals, ask for the Chef. Most food for us is outside the city but here is a link to a list of some restaurants...
  24. Some people are bothered by soy and lactose but not everyone. For regular Celiacs soy is just fine!
  25. I modify the Toll House recipe.
