  1. When I had my testing done, the GI doctor told me that it would take two weeks minimum to get the results. When I went in to get my results I saw from the fax machine time stamp that they had come back three days after my blood was drawn. I shouldn't have been surprised though, that man was a fount of bad information... Kate
  2. Lisa doesn't take criticism well at all, I don't think she will make it to the final two...or even the final three. I think Richard will win, but I'd love to see Stephanie get it. Kate

ARCHIVED Celiac Dr In Evansville, In

I'm unable to find where anyone said that they had a negative experience with Haseman... I question this because I've just been told by another celiac to go to Haseman. She recommends him highly. Has someone on here had a bad experience with him? Thx, Kate
  4. I will enjoy our annual trip to Holiday World even more this year! Open Original Shared Link Kate
  5. As useless as the gastro I saw was some days I think I would have been better off seeing a faith healer...it would have cost less and I would have gotten just as much out of it - nothing. (Ursa Major, thx for relocating my post, I thought there was a more appropriate spot, but couldn't find it on the list.) Kate
  6. A few years ago, I suddenly had an epidemic of cavities after never having a single one in my life. Since going gluten-free six months ago, I have not had a single new cavity and my dentist commented that weak spots he had been watching have now gone back to normal. Also since going gluten-free, my hair is growing at least 50% faster and my nails are...

  9. I just voted and "Publication for individuals with food allergies and intolerances" was up to 58%! I also emailed a bunch of friends and asked them to vote for it too. Kate
  10. I've had symptoms since approximately age 11. I'm 34 now. When I was in high school I started doing my own research on digestive problems because I the doctors I was dealing with were clueless. As soon as I read about celiac it sounded like my symptoms exactly - except for the weight loss aspect. For the next fifteen years I brought it up with each new...
  11. I just ordered a copy. Thanks for recommending this! Kate
  12. Jennifer, Did your doctor put you on metformin strictly for weight control? I also have PCOS and have heard that metformin would help, but my doc said that he would only put me on it if I were wanting to conceive. Not sure what the metformin/pregnancy connection is... Kate
  13. SSage, In you and your daughter's situation, I think that mail-order is the way to go. The things that she cannot buy locally can be bought online by you or her and shipped to her apartment. I've been using our local health food stores, but I've also been using websites like vitacost.com and Amazon to order things that are not available locally and things...
  14. Open Original Shared Link I had this chocolate chip cheese ball at a friend's New Year's Eve party and it was fabulous. The one I had was made with slightly more brown sugar - 3T instead of 2T - and tasted just like cookie dough. Yum! Kate
  15. I've been gluten free for about four months now, so I'm somewhere in the middle, not a beginner anymore, but not a pro either. I've been doing lots of research and reading on websites like this one and in medical journal databases. Kate
  16. Corinda, What part of Kentucky are you in? I live in Southern Indiana just across from Henderson. Kate
  17. Robin, Where is the pain occurring? Is it in your joints? In your abdomen? Kate
  18. I use Eden Organic Tamari Soy Sauce. I buy it at the local health food store, but you can also order it online. Kate
  19. Currently, most research funded by the National Institutes of Health is published in medical journals so it is only available to subscribers to those journals (which cost hundreds to thousands of dollars per year) or by buying copies of the individual articles (usually starting at $25 each). This new legislation mandates that all research resulting...
  20. This is great news because we will have access to research sooner and for free (if you don't count the fact that we paid for it in the first place with our tax dollars...) "Researchers will now be required to deposit electronic copies of their peer-reviewed manuscripts into the National Library of Medicine
  21. I'd been considering writing a letter to my past doctors (especially the ones who shot me down when I suggested celiac disease), but a friend who works in a medical practice says that the docs get letters like that all the time and they usually just throw them away without even reading them. I know a librarian who works for one of the local hospitals,...
  22. Hathor, Yes, those are negative signs after the DQ2 and DQ8 - I copied the info exactly as it appeared on the results sheet. I find it interesting that I did test positive for DQ1 but the GI doc completely ignored that result, zeroing in on the other two negatives as proof positive that I could not possibly have celiac. The doctor also concluded...
  23. I do have a copy of the results; when he gave me his bogus diagnosis I asked for a copy because I knew I'd likely be going elsewhere for a second opinion. Once he had dismissed celiac he started talking about wanting to do tests for microscopic colitis and I B S! Kate
  24. This message was posted: Dec 14 2007, 04:32 PM So, I just got back from the GI doc. He said to me, "You definitely do not have celiac disease." He bases this on test results - which state clearly, "Results do not exclude a diagnosis of celiac disease" - taken when I had been off gluten for three months and back on for only four days. Here are the results...
