  1. Great to hear that you're enjoying food again!!! Sounds like a wonderful meal in a fantastic restaurant. Nice to find a chef who cares about his customers. Wishing you many more during your trip ... SUE
  2. Hi Cass: Your last TSH result (over 4.50) suggests hypothyroiditis. Having celiac disease makes you vulnerable to autoimmune Hashimoto's thyroiditis, which could damage the thyroid and reduce T3/T4 production, which causes the pituitary to increase TSH production. In 2003 the American Association of clinical Endocrinologists revised the old TSH normal range...
  3. With healthy thyroid function our bodies convert T4 to T3 as needed. A normal thyroid will make 80% T4 and 20% T3. So most docs will prescribe a T4 supplement or levothyroxine drug, like Synthroid, Levoxyl, Levothroid. Because I had years of undiagnosed celiac damage to my intestines plus 4 years of intestinal infections, my doc prescribed Levoxyl which is...
  4. I have 7 diagnosed food allergies/intolerances. If I eat even a tiny bit of one of my allergens, my excruciating gut pain and bloating (or tachycarida with cane sugar) tell me within a few hours that I've consumed an allergen. I've eaten several varieties of Amy's soups (which don't contain my allergens). I must carefully read the ingredients to determine...
  5. I can totally relate to your hopeless feelings. Every time my gastro symptoms returned (and I suspected I had another gut bug), I wondered if I would ever get better. However, I suspect your indigestion comes from: (1) Your diagnosed gut bugs (klebsiella, enterobacter cloacae and hookworm), which are overwhelming your good bacteria, hindering digestion...
  6. If you fasted before doing the test, less food consumption will affect regularity. Also going off the acid supplements for a few days may cause returned indigestion, because your stomach acid is inadequate to digest what you eat without uncomfortable symptoms. I suspect your system will straighten out after you resume taking the HCl and eat normally.
  7. Good choices! I suspect I would have had more difficulty adjusting to 7 food restrictions, if I would have received all those diagnoses within a few months. I was diagnosed with dairy (casein) intolerance when I received my gluten intolerance diagnosis. I figured out soy from my symptoms and later took a stool test which confirmed my soy suspicions. However...
  8. First of all, I want to ask: Why did you take those tests? Did you hope that you would have no reactions or allergy restrictions? Did you plan to follow the suggested dietary restrictions? I took 3 different ELISA panels to determine why I had ongoing symptoms. I had already been diagnosed with gluten, casein and soy intolerance by Enterolab stool tests...
  9. Are you taking HCl supplements with a full cup of water AFTER eating a few bites of food? (I hope you're not taking those at the end of your meal, which would cause burning pain.) I recall that you previously said you were tolerating HCl supplements and thoe improved your digestion. Did you have to take any other supplements for the Pillcam test? You sounded...
  10. Have you tried Levoxyl? Levoxyl's inert ingredients are "microcrystalline cellulose, crocarmelose sodium and magnesium stearate". I've had no reaction problems with Levoxyl, despite my 7 food allergy restrictions and several other intolerances (related to leaky gut). I react to mannitol, sorbitol, etc. with IBS symptoms. I react to any form of cane sugar...
  11. If you still have inflammation after you treat and eliminate your hookworm parasite and your Klebsiella and Enterobacter Cloacae bacterial (overgrowth) infections, then you might consider crohn's as the cause of your inflammation. However, as long as you have gut bug infections, those will cause intestinal and digestive problems. I suspect all my gut...
  12. I also had low WBC and MCHC results on my last blood tests. Both of those results could mean anemia which causes fatigue and sleep problems. My doc suggested I take more Vitamin B12 and folate. Deficiencies of those could lower WBC. I'm eating more iron rich foods (because I don't tolerate iron supplements) to raise my MCHC. I've taken magnesium supplements...
  13. You can "google" Levothyroxine ingredients, which were (inert ingredients): "butylated hydroxyanisole, colloidal silicon dioxide, crospovidone, magnesium stearate, mannitol, microcrystalline cellulose, povidone, sodium lauryl sulfate and sucrose." I'd have problems with mannitol and sugar, but you may not. Contact the company which markets your 'Synthroid...
  14. Ask your PCP for delayed reaction IgG or IgA mediated food allergy tests (like ELISA). Most food allergies are NOT the IgE anaphylactic reaction kinds of allergies. Many 'allergy specialists' and mainstream docs only consider IgE allergies 'true allergies'. They consider other delayed reactions to foods 'intolerances'. However, both are immune responses...
  15. Are you sensitive to dairy? Many newly diagnosed celiacs cannot digest lactose, because their intestinal villae have not yet healed. If you cannot tolerate lactose, you may not tolerate Synthroid, which includes Lactose Monohydrate in its 'inert ingredients'. However, a compounding pharmacist can prepare Synthroid without that lactose ingredient, if you really...
  16. Does he have other hyperthyroid symptoms (besides weight loss), such as: heat intolerance; insomnia; fatigue; nervous energy; excess sweating; rapid heart rate; palpitations; diarrhea; anxiety; forgetfulness; brittle hair. Has he had blood tests for other delayed reaction (IgG or IgA mediated) food allergies? (Migraines are often...
  17. Obviously something is causing your elevated ALT. Your observation that your ALT decreased after taking Alinia is significant. What does your doc say about your decreased ALT after Alinia treatment? I agree that you need to kill off your bad bacteria ASAP. However your elevated ALT may be a clue to why you keep getting gut infections. So that's worth investigating...
  18. I take Custom Probiotics Adult CP-1 formula. That contains 50 billion live cells per capsule. Those are free of all my allergens (see my signature) and freeze dried. So they don't need to be refrigerated. However, refrigerating probiotics is always a good idea to extend the potency. I don't have any uncomfortable reactions to those probiotics, because they...
  19. H. Pylori causes inflammation which inhibits acid secretion from parietal cells in the damaged stomach lining. That inflammation can cause ulcers despite low acid secretion. Although H. Pylori can survive normal (high) stomach acid levels, that bacteria thrives in low stomach acid condition. So inflammation lowers stomach acid and H. Pylori proliferates...
  20. I rather enjoy digesting meals without bloating, gas or cramping pain. Before I began using HCl supplements with every meal, I felt overly full after eating small amounts, constantly bloated, gassy and crampy with chronic intestinal infections. After the Heidelberg capsule test showed I have impaired stomach acid production, I knew I would need betaine hydrochloride...
  21. I've been diagnosed with and treated for 5 different pathogenic bacteria, 2 parasites and candida, mostly through Metametrix Microbial Ecology Profile tests (DNA identification of gut bugs). If you have opportunistic bacteria or fungi, MM lab results will identify the specific drug or botanical treatments which can eliminate your specific gut bug. However...

    ARCHIVED Poll Time:

Absolutely nothing. Compared to my other 6 allergens, abstaining from gluten was a breeze. However, I like how all those restrictions simplify my choices and greatly improve the quality (healthwise) of my diet.
  23. Maybe it's gluten and other foods allergies (or intolerances). Maybe it's gluten and intestinal infections from pathogenic bacteria, parasites or funguses. Maybe it's gluten plus digestive difficulties due to impaired stomach acid production or even H. Pylori infection. My digestive difficulties did not disappear until I resolved all those other problems...
  24. Many people have difficulty digesting cucumbers, onions and other 'gassy' vegies. I use a supplement called 'excuseme' which is similar to Beano, but without my allergens. Acid reflux is not caused by too much acid in the stomach, but by inapproapriate opening of the lower esophageal sphincter (LES). Many things can cause that LES to relax and open at...
