ARCHIVED Intestinal Healing In Celiac
burdee replied to Dino's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm taking one rounded teaspoonful of L-glutamine powder dissolved in a cup of water 2x daily (when I first wake up and before bed) for at least the next 5 weeks. However, I'm using that to treat stomach damage from the H. Pylori bacteria as well as longterm celiac damage. I wasn't diagnosed with celiac disease until I was 56, but I had symptoms for at least... -
ARCHIVED Intestinal Healing In Celiac
burdee replied to Dino's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I second the L-Glutamine suggestion. I'm taking that 2x daily now to heal damage from long misdiagnosed celiac disease, food allergies, and 8 gastrointestinal infections (including pathogenic bacteria, 2 parasites and candida). I'll take that for at least 6 weeks and then assess my progress. SUE -
Caprylic acid, derived from coconut oil, is a natural antifungal, antiparasitic, antibacterial botanical treatment. I used a capsule form of caprylic acid to erradicate the Enterobacter Cloacae in 2007 and the Achlorobacter bacteria in 2010. So taking large amounts of coconut oil daily may just give you longterm protection against intestinal fungus, parasites...

ARCHIVED Entero Lab Question
burdee replied to siglfritsch's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I've been on this board since 2004. I can't remember many reports of negative tests, though I do recall a few. (You might want to do a board search.) If they get negative gluten intolerance results, they probably don't post on this board. Also people who are willing to pay out of pocket for Elab tests usually have severe enough symptoms or a history of symptoms... -
No, you didn't offend me at all. I was just replying to your question about whether I was taking antibacteria drugs and wanted to explain that I'm taking an antiparasitic drug and an herbal supplement (mastic gum) for the H. Pylori bacteria. Your reasoning about wasting money on probiotics, which get killed by antibiotics, is very sound. However, my experience...

ARCHIVED Gluten-Free And Constipated - Help
burdee replied to Melindaki's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If you had normal regularity before going gluten free, your gluten reactions (softer stools) may have masked other intestinal problems which you now experience. I agree that taking magnesium supplements will help, because many celiacs are magnesium deficient. I also encourage you to take daily probiotics. If those contain FOS (prebiotics), you may suffer... -
Thanks to all who replied to my questions. I just heard from 2 different docs (my old and new one) that I do NOT need to take FOS with probiotics. YAAAAYY!!! One less treatment side effect to endure. SUE

I've never experienced bloody, black stools while taking antibiotics with probiotics. I did take flagyl last summer for 17 days to (unsuccessfully) treat c-diff bacteria. I never noticed bloody, black stools, but I certainly suffered all the other intense flagyl side effects (cramping pain, bloating, nausea, vomiting, constant strong metallic taste which...

ARCHIVED Want To Try Going gluten-free Vegetarian
burdee replied to yogamommytrainer99's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I forgot to mention that the Heidelberg capsule test showed I produce only small amounts of acid after a long time. So I digest food very slowly and not very well. -
ARCHIVED Want To Try Going gluten-free Vegetarian
burdee replied to yogamommytrainer99's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I also have difficulty digesting meats and fats (therefore, red meats). I recently took a Heidelberg capsule test for stomach acid production. MOST people have depleted stomach acid, rather than excess stomach acid, despite drug industry claims to sell acid blocking drugs. We need adequate stomach acid to digest proteins and provide the biochemical trigger... -
Thanks so much. That's very reassuring. Great suggestions! I would also love to try making coconut milk yogurt. Does anyone have a recipe?

ARCHIVED Want To Try Going gluten-free Vegetarian
burdee replied to yogamommytrainer99's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
You only mentioned reasons for NOT going gluten-free vegetarian (family, difficulties, etc.). Why do you want to begin a vegetarian diet? Do you have problems digesting meat? Or do you have ethical concerns? I can't eat eggs or dairy due to diagnosed allergies. However I often enjoy vegan gluten-free meals, because I know how to combine grains and legumes... -
I'm taking an antiPARISITIC drug to kill a parasite and mastic gum to kill H. pylori bacteria. I have treated 6 previous gut bugs. My doctors have always told me to take probiotics WHILE I take antimicrobials for gut infections. The antimicrobials may kill off some or even most of the probiotics. However, that's still better than leaving big gaps in my intestinal...

THANKS, but I'm considering a product with 5 different kinds of good bacteria and 50 billion CFU's per capsule. However they don't contain FOS. So I don't know how well the product will survive in my parasite and antiparasitic drug filled gut. SUE
-
I'm considering a new probiotic product, which has higher amounts of beneficial bacteria and is priced much more reasonably than the probiotic product I currently use. However, my current probiotic, which I've used for the past 6 years, contains FOS (fructooligosaccharides). Those are PREbiotics, which are supposed to feed the good bacteria in the probiotic...

Which blood test diagnosed your allergies? Did you see the lab test results? (You are entitled to see those.) I'm confused about the 'sugar for the yeast' advice. Does your doc think you have candida? If you can't have milk, you probably react to the casein protein (which blood tests use for reaction tests). That would mean no dairy products. Plain yogurt...

I've never seen Coconut Secrets at my local Whole Foods. I'd LOVE to have a soy free sauce. How long has that been available? Would that be in the same section as soy sauces? If not, where in Whole Foods would I find that product? SUE

I have ELISA (blood test) and Enterolab (stool test) diagnosed allergies to gluten, dairy, soy, eggs, cane sugar, vanilla and nutmeg. Those are all ingredients in processed foods. So I eat fruits, vegies, meats, nut milks, nut butters, gluten free grains and cereals, legumes and anything that doesn't contain my diagnosed allergies. More importantly, I COOK...

ARCHIVED Entero Lab Question
burdee replied to siglfritsch's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Gluten intolerance manifests in many ways OTHER than intestinal damage and gastrointestinal symptoms. Gluten intolerance does NOT always mean celiac disease. Celiac disease is the intestinal damage manifestion of gluten intolerance. So you can have gluten intolerance WITHOUT having intestinal damage. Read "Healthier Without Wheat" by Stephen Wangen, ND.... -
I have diagnosed allergies (and obvious gastro reactions) to gluten, dairy, soy, eggs, cane sugar, vanilla and nutmeg. So I eat fruits, vegies, nut butters, nut based milk (hazelnut, esp.), gluten free grains, legumes, vegetable source fats (olive oil, avocado, etc.) I currently LOVE DAIYA vegan cheeses (I'm making my first pizza with their mozzerella flavor...

You were lucky to have a lab which cultured out c-diff strains. Maybe back in the 90's c-diff wasn't resistant to so many drugs. Now flagyl and vancomycin are the drugs of choice. However, there are a few botanicals which can be useful for milder cases. By the time I was diagnosed I'd already had symptoms for a few months and had to wait another month for...

ARCHIVED Need Coconut Milk W/o Guar Gum That Is gluten-free....
burdee replied to jasonD2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We use Trader Joe's Light coconut milk. I didn't think it contained guar gum. Where did you notice guar gum in coconut milk? What problem(s) does guar gum cause for you? -
I forgot to add that the DNA Microbial stool test which diagnosed my candida also told me that my specific strain of candida was sensitive to nystatin (and a few other drugs or botanicals). So I knew nystatin could effectively treat my candida. Getting tested with a good lab test can give you info about which treatments will most effectively eliminate your...

How were you diagnosed with 'SIBO'? That term is like 'IBS', because many different kinds of critters can cause intestinal dysbiosis (imbalance of intestinal microflora) or SIBO. I've had 5 different bacterial infections, 2 parasites and candida, all diagnosed by stool tests. So I wondered whether your doc used a stool test to diagnosed your SIBO. If so,...

ARCHIVED No One On Moms Side Has Celiac
burdee replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Jason: I can think of worse things ... like fighting 5 parasites at the same time. You've been through the wringer with gut infections. With celiac disease, 6 food allergies, after 5 bacterial, 2 parasitic and candida infections, tracing who gave me celiac disease is the least of my worries. I pm'd you about my latest (acid production test results,...
