  1. Actually Nystatin is VERY safe, compared to other antifungal drugs which are absorbed systemically. Nystatin only affects (and kills candida in the) intestines. Other antifungals are absorbed by the whole body and can potentially cause liver damage. However, I've also heard that capryllic acid (derived from coconut oil) is very effective for candida....
  2. Hi Jackkay: YES! After 2 unsuccessful rounds of metrodiazonole (flagyl), I used vancomycin qid for 2 weeks followed by a month of tapered and pulse dosing to kill off the spores. Many people get recurrent c-diff if their doc doesn't treat it aggressively the first time. Obviously, mine didn't, because flagyl is only suggested for 'mild' c-diff. I'd had symptoms...
  3. I forgot to ask everybody who replied to this topic, but: HOW WERE YOU DIAGNOSED WITH CANDIDA? I was diagnosed by stool tests. 3 consecutive tests from Doctors' Data Lab showed positive candida, but they considered +1 levels 'normal'. (Normal or not, I still had ongoing symptoms!) A year later my doc switched to DNA Microbial stool tests from Metametrix...
  4. My doc is not a 'GP'. He's a licensed MD who specialized in naturopathy. He's an ND, who has celiac disease and dairy allergy, who visited my local celiac support group meetings. Eventually he opened his IBS Treatment Center, where I went after abstaining from gluten, dairy and soy did not resolve all my gut problems. Although he specializes in celiac disease...
  5. WEIRD!!! I can't seem to get rid of the incorrect signature. However, I did accidentally omit eggs, when I described my diagnosed allergies in the previous post.
  6. I don't know why I keep getting Lisa's signature, but that doesn't describe my history. So I thought I'd add another post to see if my signature came through. SUE
  7. My diagnosed food allergies are gluten, dairy, soy, cane sugar, vanilla and nutmeg. So I did eliminate dairy and cane sugar, but not all sources of sugar. However, I'm not a big sweet eater, because most sweet/processed foods contain cane sugar, which I must avoid. I sweetened drinks and cereals with stevia, but I occasionally had agave sweetened foods. I...
  8. My Doctors' Data stool tests showed +1 Candida for about 2 years, but that lab considered that 'normal levels'. When I did a DNA Microbial Stool test from another lab, they advised to treat (erradicate) even +1 levels. Since I already had 7 food restrictions (with celiac disease and 6 diagnosed food allergies), I didn't want to use a special diet to get rid...
  9. Sorry I missed your posted questions. Yes, you can ask your doc to request the ELISA blood test for allergies. There are 3 different versions: (1) 100 commonly eaten foods; (2) 15? food vegetarian addition; and (3) herb and spice version. I recommend starting with the first (100 commonly eaten foods) and then continuing on to the other 2 if you still have...
  10. My IgG mediated allergies were diagnosed by ELISA blood test. My doc told me to just disregard the 'low' reaction and heed the 'moderate to high' reaction results. Every one of the foods (eggs, nutmeg, vanilla and cane sugar) in that latter category cause me painful gastrointestinal symptoms, except cane sugar, which causes 2-3 days of tachycardia and nausea...
  11. I have avoided philosophical analysis of my gut symptoms after my doc twice labeled my symptoms 'stress'. After I told him I had continued IBS symptoms (despite abstaining from gluten and my other 6 food allergies), he suggested I get tummy massage for my stress related symptoms. A stool test showed that I actually had a Cryptosporidium (a potentially lethal...
  12. Skin prick tests only exclude IgE mediated food allergies or skin sensitivity allergies. They can't diagnose IgG or IgA delayed reaction allergies. For those allergies, blood tests are more effective. I've also noticed hypoglycemic reactions to eating high sugar or high carb foods, unless I balance those in a meal with low glycemic fats, proteins and low...
  13. Just curious ... Why do you avoid grains and sugar? I have a diagnosed (ELISA blood test) IgG mediated allergy to cane sugar (as well as dairy, soy, eggs, vanilla and nutmeg)? Are you also allergic to cane sugar? Do you have allergies to specific grains (besides gluten intolerance)?
  14. I don't eat breakfast when I first get up, but need something light. So I start with: AM Snack: apple juice, cantaloupe chunks, 3 cherries BREAKFAST: 1/4 c. Bob's Might Tasty Gluten Free hot cereal, cooked in 1 c. hazelnut milk, to which I added 1 heaping tablespoon of almond butter and 1/2 chopped pear LUNCH: More cantaloupe chunks, 1/2 Food for...
  15. Gastroparesis is just another name for decreased gut motility. Did your doc consider what causes your 'gastroparesis'? Constipation (which often occurs with delayed gut motility) can be a symptom of celiac disease, food allergies, bacterial overgrowth, parasites and/or candida, as well as hypochloridia (low stomach acid) which can also delay digestion and...
  16. My naturopath (who runs the IBS Treatment Center in Seattle) ordered stool tests initially through Doctors' Data, Inc. (lab) in Illinois. However he found a better DNA Microbial Test (which identifies the gut bugs by their DNA) through Metametrix in Georgia. I suspect you need a holistic/naturopathic doc who offers those kind of tests, but you also might...
  17. I've done 3 different versions of the ELISA (Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay) blood test for food allergies. The first version tests for IgA and IgE antibody reactions to over 100 commonly eaten foods. The second version tests for mostly vegetarian foods. The third version tests for herbs and spices. Those diagnosed as my allergies, eggs, cane sugar, vanilla...
  18. I just posted the above, but somehow someone else's signature info replaced mine. So I wanted to add another post to see whether my signature info appeared. SUE
  19. (1) Your doctor tells you that your symptoms are IBS, which you should just learn to live with, because most women over 40 get IBS. (My mainstream doc misdianosed my celiac disease symptoms with that explanation for 20 years.) (2) Your doc tells you that your symptoms are caused by stress. (3) Your doc recommends you see an eating disorder therapist...
  20. Correct. Your Elab results indicate nonceliac (intestinal damage) gluten sensitivity. So you need to abstain from gluten to prevent further damage somewhere in your body. Gluten sensitivity reactions could cause your constipation. You also might have other undiagnosed allergies which cause constipation. Not everyone gets diarrhea from allergy reactions....
  21. I was diagnosed with dairy (casein) allergy by Enterolab when I took their stool test for gluten intolerance, etc. I continued to have symptoms (cramping pain, bloating, constipation), esp. when I consumed soy based products. So I later took another Elab stool test which diagnosed my soy allergy. I continued to have symptoms. So I took the ELISA (blood) test...
  22. Probably not. I was diagnosed with candida (albicans) fungal overgrowth through a stool test which identifies the DNA and levels of yeasts, parasites and bacteria in my intestines. If you have vaginal candida or thrush (in the mouth), you may have symptoms which a doc can easily identify. However, intestinal candida infections will need to be diagnosed with...
  23. See Open Original Shared Link for info about their test prices. The gene test is a mouth swab kit which you do yourself and send back. The other tests are stool tests for gluten antibodies, casein antibodies, Ttg antibodies, malabsorption, soy antibodies, egg antibodies and yeast antibodies. All test for IgA antibody mediated reactions. I received my results...
  24. Antibiotics are notorious for killing all our good bacteria, which assist digestion in our small intestines. Digestive enzymes can help somewhat with protein and fat digestion. However, you may have very low levels of good bacteria or even some bad bugs (bacteria, parasites or fungus like candida) which moved into the space created when the antibiotic killed...
  25. DO NOT TAKE THE NEXIUM PILLS!!! If your bloating and stomach pain disappeared after only 3 days gluten free, gluten probably caused your digestive problems. Even if Nexium relieves heartburn (by suppressing stomach acid), it will make digestion more difficult in the long run. We NEED stomach acid to adequately digest proteins and biochemically trigger bile...
