  1. I can't eat the Reed's ginger chew candies, because I have a diagnosed allergy to cane sugar, an ingredient of those candies. However, I often drink Traditional Medicinals "Ginger Aid" herbal tea. That helps me fight colds, feel warmer when I'm cold, and improve digestion. SUE
  2. I also struggled with constipation for years before I was diagnosed with gluten intolerance (actually Celiac Disease). My constipation was so chronic and severe that I eventually had to endure hemorrhoid surgery 11 years ago. During my 20s I took laxatives nightly just to have my hard, floating stools. Later I learned about magnesium and vitamin C, which...
  3. Hi Lisa: Rather than guessing what other food allergies you might have or eliminating foods which other people suggested you eliminate, consider getting a blood test for delayed reaction (IgG) food allergies. I assume you were diagnosed with dairy and soy by Enterolab stool tests. Did you also test for yeast and egg through Elab? Because Elab only tests for...
  4. Hi Lisa: I have diagnosed (by Enterolab stool test) soy and dairy allergies as well as gluten intolerance. I have very strong reactions (gastrointestinal cramping pain and bloating) to those foods. I do NOT react to Earth Balance soy/dairy free margarine. I don't use Truly Decadent coconut milk. However, I eat their coconut milk based ice creams (chocolate...
  5. I also bruised very easily before I got my good bacteria levels high enough to produce vitamin K. Deficiency of that vitamin often manifests in frequent bruising. I also eat lots of foods that contain vitamin K. However, taking lots of high dose probiotics for a long time (especially after treatment for gut bacteria, parasites or candida) helped decrease...
  6. Hi Jason: I can't believe people question the Metametrix DNA test. Maybe they have never experienced all the gut infections from bacteria, candida and parasites, that we have suffered. Without that test, I'd probably still be suffering from c-diff, because traditional docs only use a c-diff toxins test, which 'experts' consider a 'iffy' test, or they...
  7. Hi Jason: I'm glad you eliminated 2 of those 5 parasites. You probably don't need to consider the 'unknown protazoan'. I never treated mine and didn't suffer any symptoms. However, as long as you still have hookworm and Endolimax nana, you may suffer digestive challenges. Your improvements in digestion certainly point to less parasites and more good bacteria...
  8. I had candida symptoms for several years before my doc gave me a stool test which diagnosed high enough levels to treat. Although I had previously tried the suggested anticandida diet (no sweets, limited fruits, grains, no yeasts, no moldy foods, etc., etc.), I lost 4 pounds in 3 weeks on that diet and I'm not overweight. So when my test results showed I...
  9. Hi Kevin: I've had 4 different experiences with bacterial overgrowth which were diagnosed by stool tests, not breath tests. My symptoms were bloating, constipation and cramping pains. My doc successfully treated klebsiella, enterobacter cloacae and achromobacter with caprylic acid. However, I also tested positive for clostridium difficile (c-diff), a very...
  10. I'm confused. I thought you already received results that indicated you had 5 parasites. Have you already treated those and now await the retest results? SUE
  11. Your choice ... However, I often accidentally swallow water or get water into my nose when I shampoo in the shower. Even though I don't actually ingest the undiluted shampoo, I sometimes swallow water which might contain a bit of shampoo. With all my allergies, I usually spit out the water. Nevertheless, I wouldn't want to take any chances. SUE PS...
  12. I wouldn't use that shampoo. The risk of accidentally consuming a bit of shampoo is too high. Look for a safer product. SUE
  13. The source of your confusion is disagreement among allergy 'experts'. Some allergists and naturopaths consider IgE mediated (immediate) reactions the only 'true allergies' and any other reactions merely 'intolerances'. However, IgG or IgA mediated (often delayed) reactions are also immune responses, unlike lactose intolerance which is caused by lactase deficiency...
  14. You're welcome! I noticed that I forgot to answer your questions about reintroducing gluten ... I will NEVER purposely eat any of my 7 allergens. I have plenty of substitutes. I focus on finding substitutes so I don't feel so deprived that I would risk the painful reaction symptoms I experience after eating any allergens. Why would I purposely inflict...
  15. I have diagnosed allergies to dairy, eggs, soy, cane sugar, vanilla and nutmeg as well as gluten intolerance. I also avoid sorbitol like artificial sweeteners, alcohol and caffeine, because I react badly to those. Rather than focus on what I can't eat, I look for substitutes for all my allergens, which are most often 'ingredients' in many foods, rather than...
  16. I had chronic constipation all my life. I ate high fiber diets, drank lots of fluids and took magnesium and vitamin C daily. So I was 'regular', but always had hard stools. So I thought after my celiac disease diagnosis, eliminating gluten would make me regular. Gluten abstinence helped some. Then I was diagnosed with allergies to dairy, soy, eggs, cane sugar...

    ARCHIVED Caffeine And Bloating

I totally agree. I have an ELISA (blood test) diagnosed allergy to cane sugar, which is currently advertised as the only 'natural' sweetener. Agave doesn't bother me at all. Even 'bad press' high fructose corn syrup doesn't bother me. However, I don't overdose on any sugars or sugar sweetened foods. I also avoid all artificial sweetners (except pure stevia...

    ARCHIVED Caffeine And Bloating

I never heard of anyone being sensitive to agave, which is NOT an artificial sweetener. However, anything is possible. Nevertheless, I wonder whether your symptoms are related to what you ate the day or night before, rather than the coffee per se. Caffeine in any beverage or food causes reflux for me, but never bloating. SUE
  19. Check the ingredients in your creamer. That could contain soy or casein (dairy protein). I would also call the manufacturer if there are some 'mystery' ingredients on the label. SUE
  20. Did you have constipation as one of your gluten intolerance symptoms? If so, did the constipation decrease after you went gluten free? If not, constipation could also be caused by (1) other food allergies influencing constipation; (2) bacterial dysbiosis (low good bacteria which promotes bowel motility; or (3) opportunistic or pathogenic bacteria, parasites...
  21. Besides high fiber fruits (esp. pears, apples, oranges), vegies (esp. brocolli, brussel sprouts, green beans), legumes (esp. kidney, black, lentils), I add rice bran to hot cereals, soups, spaghetti sauce or whatever can be thickened. Also check the fiber content of whatever gluten-free breads you buy. Look for at least 3 grams of fiber per slice. SUE

    ARCHIVED Caffeine And Bloating

Do you add anything to your coffee or drink it black? Do you use any kind of sweeteners? SUE
  23. FANTASTIC! So glad your dinner went well. Yeah, I often get 'safe' restaurant meals that are much worse than I can prepare at home, which is why I seldom eat out in my own city. SIGH Eating out in high quality restaurants in touristy towns in Maui is MUCH different. Even with all my 7 restrictions and my husband's 9 food restrictions, we've enjoyed stellar...
  24. I checked the meetup link, because I'm also in Seattle and actually live close to Greenwood. I used to lead the SNOKING Celiac group in Bothell until I turned the group over to Kaili McIntyre of DaVinci's gluten-free Bakery and Cafe. Do you know whether Kaili still leads a group? Is your 'meetup' a regular meeting? I'm interested. SUE
  25. What kind of test diagnosed your long list of allergies? Or did you assume from your symptoms that you reacted to those specific foods? SUE
