  1. Your very limited diet may deter you from 'stabilizing' your weight. Don't assume your symptoms are always 'food reactions' and keep limiting what you eat. If you suspect other food allergies, get a blood test to confirm your suspicions. Also consider that your reaction symptoms may actually be caused by intestinal infections from pathogenic or opportunistic...
  2. I also noticed that dairy products influenced constipation. After I was diagnosed with IgA mediated dairy allergy and abstained from all dairy products, I rarely had hard stools. The lactaid tablets did nothing for my constipation, because I reacted to the casein protein. Consuming more fiber, fluids, magnesium and vitamin C all helped reduce constipation...
  3. You may have developed hemorrhoids during all your years of constipation. Those will make bowel movements very painful and cause you to bleed when you 'go'. There are many OTC hemorrhoid ointments. However none of them are as effective as using a 'sitz bath' to shrink hemorrhoids. That doesn't mean sitting in the bathtub. A sizt bath is a device that you...
  4. Why did your doctor want you to abstain from those foods? What does he think that restrictive diet will do for you? If your doc does have good reasons for that restrictive diet, I want to reassure you that you still have lots of healthy choices to eat. I have ELISA (blood test) diagnosed allergies to gluten, dairy, soy, eggs, cane sugar, vanilla and nutmeg...
  5. You could have an intestinal infection from bacteria, parasites or even fungu, which cause your symptoms, especially if your symptoms occur after eating almost anything. If you have an infection, digesting almost anything will cause symptoms. You may need to do a stool test to diagnose pathogenic or opportunistic bacteria, parasites or fungus. SUE

  7. Tiffany already said what I would say. Any intestinal infections, whether from bacteria, fungus or parasites, will affect your digestion. My 6 infections (4 different bacteria, one parasite and candida) definitely impaired my digestion. Let's talk about testing for food allergies AFTER you treat (kill off) the parasites and have high enough levels of good...
  8. Rather than assuming some products, which proclaim they are gluten free, are not, consider whether you may have soy or vanilla allergies. Those are 2 of my delayed reaction (IgG and IgA) allergens. Of course the 'purists' may say those are 'intolerances', but whatever ... my ELISA test results told me to avoid 6 other foods besides gluten. When I abstain...
  9. Hi David: It looks like your doc tested you for usual indices of celiac disease, as well as several parasites. Which test diagnosed the absence of parasites? Did your doctor consider other food allergies? I don't mean IgE or anaphylactic, immediate reaction, allergies. I mean IgG or IgA mediated delayed reaction allergies, which blood tests (like ELISA) can...
  10. I think those are safe. Quinoa doesn't contain gluten. That's a dedicated factory. I never had a problem or obvious reaction. However, I didn't like the bitter taste. So I substituted those quinoa flakes in oatmeal cooky recipes until gluten free oats became more available. I've never had reactions to gluten free oats either. SUE
  11. When I need to attend a group function (last one was a rehearsal dinner) at an unfamiliar restaurant, I call the restaurant ahead of time and ask to speak to the chef about my food allergies. I either consult the menu online or stop at the restaurant ahead of time to look through the menu to determine whether anything seems relatively safe or adaptable to...
  12. Hi Jason: I suspect you meant that you need to take antiparasitic drugs (rather than 'antibiotics') to treat the parasites. However, if the DNA Microbial stool test diagnosed your parasites, the test results don't list drug or botanical sensitivities for those parasites. The test results say: "sensitivities are not performed on parasites, because they do...
  13. Hi Janie: I have just 2 words for you: TRY DECAF!! LOL It's the caffeine which relaxes the lower esophageal valve. Chocolate contains both fats and caffeine, which makes that weaken the LEV as well. At least I waited until AFTER Valentine's day to tell you. SUE
  14. Hi Janie: I also began taking HCl capsules (2-4 per meal depending on the amount of protein I consumed) after being on acid blockers for over 10 years. You might want to read "Why Stomach Acid is Good for You" by Jonathon, Wright, MD. First of all STOP CONSUMING PEPPERMINTS ASAP. Peppermints are one of the foods which weaken the lower esophageal valve...
  15. I also can't 'do eggs or dairy' or cane sugar or soy. So my favorite breakfasts include: (1) peanut butter with chopped fruit or berries on gluten free English muffins; or (2) Bob's Red Mill Mighty Tasty gluten-free hot cereal plus 1 T. rice bran cooked in hazelnut milk with additional almond butter and chopped fruit; or (3) Gluten Free Oats (several...
  16. Hi Jason: Were those parasites described on your test as 'taxonomy unavailable' which 'likely indicates an ingested protozoan and not a human parasite'? I had those results on my last 2 stool tests? Or were your 'parasites' treatable parasites like giardia, cryptosporidia, etc.? I also have a history of contracting one intestinal 'bug' after another. I...
  17. I can relate to pain and nausea, despite abstaining from gluten and my 6 other food allergies (dairy, soy, eggs, cane sugar, vanilla and nutmeg) plus several foods which cause reflux, even though I don't have diagnosed allergies to those. I was initially misdiagnosed (for 20 years) with 'IBS' (which is a label doctors give to symptoms they can't understand...
  18. My celiac disease symptoms were misdiagnosed as 'gastritis', 'IBS' and even 'eating disorders', until I finally self-diagnosed and then got Enterolab tests at age 56. However after abstaining from gluten and getting diagnosed with other food allergies and abstaining from those allergens, I STILL had ongoing symptoms. Stool tests (DNA Microbial) diagnosed...
  19. Many people will tell you to eat more fiber, consume more liquids, etc., etc. However, if you have other undiagnosed food allergies (like dairy) or even intestinal dysbiosis caused by bad bacteria or low levels of good (probiotics) bacteria, parasites or fungus (noteably candida), you may suffer impaired intestinal motility which will cause constipation no...

    ARCHIVED Allergy Doctors

I totally agree with your comment about lab processing ELISA test results. You want a lab with good quality control measures. You may also need a doc who knows how to interpret test results. I had good experiences with USBioTek in Seattle. My doc (who founded the IBS Treatment Center in Seattle) often advises that we look at the pattern of our ELISA results...
  21. Skin tests only show how our skin reacts in contact with certain substances. Skin tests cannot diagnosed food allergies, because we do NOT put food under our skin when we eat. Only blood tests, which show whether our blood reacts to the presence of food proteins by producing antibodies, can diagnose food allergies. When we eat, we digest the food in our...
  22. Earth Balance has a new dairy free and soy free spread. Look for a red EB container beside the traditional 'yellow' EB containers in the Whole Foods dairy case. The red container will be labeled dairy and soy free. Since I have dairy and soy allergies, I LOVE that Earth Balance spread. SUE
  23. I live in Seatle, where we have many gray, rainy days year round. I was diagnosed with SAD about 10 years ago. Although my doctor suggested using 'light therapy' from full spectrum light boxes, I was desperate and wanted to try an antidepressant. The light boxes helped, but the antidepressant 'serzone' made me 'lose' words, experiencing 'trailing' and lose...
  24. Any number of intestinal 'bug' infections could cause bloating. I've been diagnosed and treated for 3 different bacterial infections (klebsiella, enterobacter cloacae and clostridium difficilie), one parasite (cryptosporidium) and one fungus overgrowth (candida). During and after each treatment (to kill off the bad bugs), I took probiotics (good bacteria...
  25. I've used that product several times and never had any bad reactions or any symptoms indicative of celiac or my food allergies. My product container does NOT state that it contains maltodextrin. It only lists the 4 good bacteria, fructooligosaccarhides (FOS) and dried apricot powder. However, FOS and the high amounts of good bacteria will initially cause...
