Banana Almond Muffins approx. 1/2 cup mashed banana (I usually do 1 1/2 medium/large bananas) 1/3 cup coconut oil (warm it a bit so it's liquid, or use another oil/melted butter) 4 eggs (room temp. so that they don't make the coconut oil harden up again) 1/2 tsp. vanilla 1 1/2 cups almond meal 1/2 cup flax meal (or 1/2 cup more almond flour...

I agree with RiceGuy, homemade is best. Some snacks we eat are nuts, sliced fruit with a nut butter, veggies with hummus, deli meats, boiled eggs, homemade yogurt with fruit, and cheese. I make muffins with almond meal and mashed bananas (no sugar required as the bananas are so sweet, let me know if you're interested in the recipe), granola or trail mix...

ARCHIVED Confused - Wheat Allergy/celiac/ibs?HiDee replied to SLB5757's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms You could look at enterolab.com which can do a stool test for gluten sensitivity. Other celiac tests are blood tests and biopsy which require you to eat gluten again for several weeks before being able to perform those tests as Lisa has already commented about. Again, you can get false negatives, many people have negative blood tests and positive biopsies...

ARCHIVED What Now? Normal Blood Test - But All The Celiacs SymptomsHiDee replied to MommyofTwins's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs I think blood tests can sometimes give you a "false negative" (as in there may be celiac but the blood test just didn't detect it) because they are not totally accurate especially in young children. They're not even that accurate in adults, I know someone who had several negative blood tests before finally getting a positive but all the while still having...

ARCHIVED Baking Cookies And Always Failing?HiDee replied to Lady Stardust's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips We (my toddler and I) just made peanut butter cookies today. No flour necessary. 1 cup PB, 1 cup sugar, 1 egg, 1/2 tsp baking soda, 1 tsp vanilla. I got the recipe on this forum a while ago, super easy and good! Our other cookie favorite is (gluten-free) Oatmeal toffee cookies. We use shortening because it doesn't spread as much as butter does in cookie...

I chose the paraguard because I didn't want the hormones but I've never had irregular cycles so you may need the hormones to help regulate that. I like the paraguard because my husband and I don't like condoms and as soon as I had it removed I got pregnant, no waiting for your body to adjust like sometimes with the pill. It does create a little extra mucousy...

ARCHIVED Suspect Celiac In My 6 Mo Old...HiDee replied to inskababy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs You may want to look into enterolab.com, they can test without doing a biopsy or blood tests which are rather invasive. However, it is a stool test which is not so exciting but at least less invasive and you don't have to keep feeding your baby gluten to do their tests. Also, you could look into ROCK (raising our celiac kids) support groups, maybe there...

ARCHIVED 6 Months Old With Celiac In The FamilyHiDee replied to KatieB's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/index.php?showtopic=55406 Hi KatieB, there is a lot of relevant information to your situation in the above link. I have decided not to give my children any gluten at all, at least not while they are young and not at home since we are a gluten-free household. They aren't missing out on any nutrients, there are plenty...

ARCHIVED I Made Gluten/casein/dairy Free Chocolate Cupcakes!HiDee replied to TearzaRose's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips Congratulations!! One small victory at a time. Just out of curiosity, can something be dairy free and not casein free? Or casein free and not dairy free? We can tolerate milk products in my family but I have a friend who is lactose intolerant (also gluten-free) and a nephew casein intolerant, I just wonder the difference. Thanks!

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Teething Foods Help Please!HiDee replied to pugluver31902's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs BABY MUM MUMS, they are fantastic. They are a rice rusk, gluten-free, dissolve easily, I found them at my Walmart, they are also on Amazon. They have a veggie flavor and plain. My kids LOVE them. If you're staying away from other common allergens in baby's first year, the gerber wagon wheels and cheese puffs have corn, just so you know. I think the arrowroot...

Usually angel food cake doesn't call for much flour anyway (the recipe I always use calls for 1/2 cup white rice flour and 1/3 cup corn starch) so subbing a flour mix should be just fine, it's mostly egg whites anyway. But if it's a baking mix you are using does that mean it has baking powder in it? If it does you might not want to use it, angel food cake...

ARCHIVED Dha SupplementHiDee replied to I hate gluten's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs DHA is an Omega-3 fatty acid found in fish oil supplements or naturally occurring in fatty fish (most common are tuna and salmon). It's very good for heart health, immune system, brain function and a host of other things. I've even heard of research linking it to improvement in things like ADD. If you and your family don't eat fish very frequently you...

ARCHIVED Introducing Babies To GlutenHiDee replied to HiDee's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs That's really interesting, I didn't know that. I wonder why they recommend rice cereal and other grains as babies first foods? I'd be interested in reading those studies. Thanks for your reply.

ARCHIVED Introducing Babies To GlutenHiDee replied to HiDee's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs Here is a link to the journal article of the original study. I don't know if any follow up studies have been done to confirm their findings. Open Original Shared Link Here are a few other articles summing up their findings. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link I only just started my baby on rice cereal when he turned 6 months...

ARCHIVED Introducing Babies To GlutenHiDee posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs I'm sure many of you have heard of the recent research that they did on kids with an increased (genetic) risk of getting celiac disease and their findings that introducing gluten between the ages of 4 and 6 months decreases the risk of getting the disease but introducing it before or after that window increases the risk of getting it. My husband and I are...

ARCHIVED Toddler Snacks?HiDee replied to odcdinah's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs One other that my kids like are Baby Mum Mum's. My local Walmart carries them or you can find them on Amazon. They are good for little ones because they dissolve easily in mouth and they are just rice.
-
ARCHIVED Toddler Snacks?HiDee replied to odcdinah's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs I though KIX was not gluten free. Last time I read the ingredients they weren't gluten free. Has that recently changed? Or is it just this new flavor that is gluten free?

I have a Nutrimill and like it. It grinds very fine flour and the coarse setting is coarse enough to grind a decent cornmeal. But if you don't grind corn then you don't have to worry about that. I don't know about the KitchenAid attachment so I can't help you there. I know someone who has a K-Tec and likes it. It's only about $40 more than the attachment...

ARCHIVED High School Graduation PartyHiDee replied to Vlynx's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips I would agree that it should all be gluten free....however, if you have a whole lot of guests coming and it's just too much work for you to do all the food gluten free as well as cakes, maybe you could just buy a big sheet cake from your local supermarket bakery and keep it separate from all the other food. But if there aren't that many people coming, it...

If the stoneware pan is oiled or well seasoned it makes a crispier crust than glass or metal for bread, muffins and pizza, not burned by any means but nicely browned and still moist inside because the stoneware won't absorb any moisture. Baking time is a little bit shorter with stoneware. When I make cookies or rolls on my pizza stone they don't take as...

If you like glass or cast iron, you might like stoneware. It becomes seasoned after several uses which makes it non-stick. It bakes evenly and creates a really nice crust. I bought a stoneware loaf pan from Pampered Chef, I also have a pizza stone and muffin stoneware of theirs also, they are awesome! I'm sure there are other brands of stoneware out there...

I'm pretty sure mine was not symmetrical and if I remember correctly, I had a bigger rash on my left leg than my right. The rash started on my (HUGE) stomach and then went to my chest and then legs and then it went away. The other odd thing was that it itched like crazy on my belly and legs but not on my chest. All in all, it lasted about a month or so...
-
I had it, the only thing that worked for me was a cold wash cloth on the rash to stop the itching. I tried several various anti-itch whatever creams and really nothing like that worked very well. Benadryl (pill, not cream) worked a little but the cool cloth was the best. Good luck.

Roben Ryberg has a new cookbook out called "You Won't Believe it's Gluten-Free!" I got it as a present. The main thing with this book is that she has several recipes for each food item using only one flour per recipe, it's an interesting premise and the few recipes I've tried so far worked well. So, she has three monkey bread recipes, one rice-based, one...

ARCHIVED Pregnant + Celiac Sickness Advice...please!HiDee replied to little00blondie's topic in Related Issues & Disorders I don't think I had it as bad as what you're describing when I was pregnant but it sounds like you might benefit from more protein (especially with the whole fatigue thing). That was my pregnancy life-saver, protein snacks every one to two hours (I know it's a lot of eating but they're just small snacks), and a big one right before bed so that I wouldn't...
