  1. I got it too when I was breastfeeding. It was mainly due to not drinking enough water, for me anyway. SO, definitely drink 8 - 10 glasses of water a day. Metamucil also helped. Hot herbal tea or hot apple juice will help as well. Prune juice works for lots of people. You could also try Miralax, it is very gentle - not a stimulant, you can get it over...
  2. Same here, my husband lost 15 pounds pretty quickly when we cut out sugar and grains and upped the good fats. We love almond flour and stevia these days.
  3. Congratulations AliB! We, my family and I, recently went low(er) carb also and my husband lost 15 pounds in about 6 weeks. None of us are overweight, we mainly did it for health reasons. My husband had his cholesterol checked and the doctor told him to cut out sugar and carbs to bring down his triglycerides and boost his HDL. It really worked! and the...
  4. Look here and here
  5. I vote for the Bosch stand mixer. I have the universal which has the blender and food processor as well as the mixing bowl. I LOVE it. I use it all the time. I grew up with a Bosch so that's what I got when I got married and no regrets. A friend of mine recently switched from a KitchenAid to a Bosch and is loving it too. I don't know how the price compares...
  6. https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/index.php?showtopic=59347 this thread has a recipe for pancakes that don't require eggs (or nuts).
  7. Cool whip is dairy free (not casein free) and gluten free but it does contain hydrogenated oils and lots of corn syrup.
  8. Just wondering if anyone has done this or has experience using coconut milk in place of whipping cream. Thanks!!
  9. I strongly agree with supplementing DHA during pregnancy and nursing (and also during non-pregnancy/nursing). But you don't have to ask your doctor for it. Just go the pharmacy dept. and get any good over-the-counter high potency fish oil supplement. It is so important for babies' brain development. I know the "OneADay" prenatals come with a fish oil...
  10. If you are diabetic and trying to lose weight I would consider going off all refined grains/flours and sugar. Grains, yes even whole grains (albeit a little more slowly digested than refined grains/flours), are converted into sugar in your body and then stored as fat. Once you stop giving your body the easy energy from sugar and flour (that often comes...
  11. From what I know, Better Batter has pectin and Tom Sawyer has gelatin, maybe the pectin has more thickening power than gelatin... This recipe was on the forum here a while back and I've made it several times and LOVE it. These make a really nice and light pancake/waffle and taste very good. I usually do waffles with it and so I use the 1 1/4 c. of milk...
  12. Maybe if you pull out the raisins you could use them as bread crumbs or cube them for stuffing...... good luck
  13. Coconut oil might work, it just might be a little thinner/runnier than shortening based frosting since coconut oil has such a low melting point. Bob's Red Mill gluten-free pizza crust mix looks like it might work with your stipulations if you use an egg replacer.
  14. I can only find it at my health foods store. Or I'm sure you could find it online.
  15. I agree, it looks like you definitely need more protein and fat in your morning and more veggies (complex carbs) in your lunch. An egg or two with your breakfast, a few handfuls of nuts, some cheese or maybe plain yogurt with your fruit mid-morning (as well as mid-afternoon) will really help your blood sugar and energy levels.
  16. Are your vitamins gluten-free? Is there a chance something is cross contaminated that you're eating? Maybe you have another intolerance like corn or soy or dairy. It may also be a bug of some sort, my husband had a virus like that a few months ago, it lasted about a week. If you think it's diet related, I would strip down your diet to simple fresh vegetables...
  17. I agree. Also, as the original thread starter mentioned them talking about trace amounts of gluten being OK, they actually state that trace amounts can be harmful for celiacs, not the other way around. They do say that those who are gluten intolerant may sometimes be able to tolerate trace amounts. I think we all know someone who is super sensitive to...
  18. You could make muffins with some of those flours and add a mashed banana or (unsweetened) applesauce instead of sugar to keep it on the healthier side. I would definitely use your rice bran and flax seed in place of some of the flour to beef up the fiber. Freeze the muffins and take one to work as a snack. I make a whole chicken (very simple in the crock...
  19. I'm so excited they made their frostings gluten free as well. My favorite used to be the rainbow chip and I couldn't have it for so long after going gluten-free because they used to make it with wheat starch. Hooray for General Mills!
  20. My kids have never been tested so I'm not an expert but I do know that celiac testing is very unreliable on children, especially blood testing. It's even pretty unreliable on adults. I've heard of doctors sometimes diagnosing kids based on symptoms and response to the diet. Other methods might be through the endoscopy or biopsy.
  21. As missy'smom said, the low-carb recipe suggestion is a good one for your situation. Open Original Shared Link's a flax bread recipe that I LOVE, and make quite frequently. It is a little better with golden flax meal but still good with regular. I also make Open Original Shared Linkmuffins a lot using mashed bananas in place of the water and sweetener...
  22. I just started making yogurt too. You can use a regular heating pad if you have one. It worked really well! After heating the milk and adding the yogurt starter, you put the yogurt in your containers and put them on the pad and cover them with a towel. I also saw on the crockpot blogger's website how to use your crockpot, you might want to look that one...
  23. To Autumn's Mom: You may want to look into the specific carbohydrate diet for your daughter. It's supposed to be very helpful for Crohn's and UC. There are several threads in various parts of this website (in the baking forum and other diseases forum etc.) about it. Essentially it's a totally grain-free, milk-free, sugar-free diet, which sounds kind of...
  24. I asked a similar question a few months ago. Here is the link to the thread about what others recommended to me. My two little kids are both gluten-free and I plan on keeping it that way until they are older and able to make that choice for themselves. It just seems to be the most practical choice as both of us are sensitive to gluten. And research keeps...
  25. I remember reading this blog a while ago. Open Original Shared Link It's full of tips for making gluten-free bread. It's not necessarily a "guide" on how to use gelatin but rather, it gives the reason why it's often added to recipes and a starting point to begin using it. Read paragraph 6 under "Tips for Mixing Ingredients." In another post on this same...
