ARCHIVED Celiac Testing
Lizz7711 replied to AliB's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Rachel, I need to read up on the "phenols". It makes sense that reaction would go along with load. I haven't reached a point yet since going Gluten-free Casein-free where i'm ready to re-evaluate the salicylates and go off of all of them again. We did it for about 6 weeks, but that was before going gluten-free, so I think if we did it now i'd notice... -
ARCHIVED Zonulin, Leaky Gut, And Gluten Sensitivity
Lizz7711 replied to Lizz7711's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Open Original Shared Link This is a link to a yahoo group about trying a low oxalate diet (found to be connected with autism and also with celiac issues). If you scroll down this files link, you'll see a Word document called "Mechanisms behind the Leaky Gut" and it's a very interesting article. It does mention the whole zonulin factor. It also talks... -

ARCHIVED Zonulin, Leaky Gut, And Gluten Sensitivity
Lizz7711 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The last few days i've been doing a lot of research into leaky gut issues (thanks to Rachel-24!). I came across some really interesting information about a protein called Zonulin that is really helping me to put all the pieces together. One question I was having was that, ok, I know I have a leaky gut, but when I react to perfume smells or dryer sheets and... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Testing

Nevermind this question...my doctor gave me 3 of the hair kits so I can use them for me, my daughter, and send one to my dad in Florida! -
ARCHIVED My Wife Has Recently Been Diagnosed With Celiac ...help!
Lizz7711 replied to HarryB's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Also, as much as I don't like medications, my mother had a digestive crisis a couple years before she passed away, and was down to 86 pounds. What finally helped stop her diarrhea was taking pepto bismol 5 times a day (per mayo clinic recommendation). Now, mayo clinic also never tested her for celiac and i'm sure she had it, so they are not the best doctors... -
ARCHIVED My Wife Has Recently Been Diagnosed With Celiac ...help!

I agree, but i'd go further and cut out the four top allergens: gluten, dairy, soy, and corn. As a previous poster said, stick to homemade meats, soups, rice, potatoes, fruits, and cooked veggies. Have they tested for H.pylori? It's a bacteria that causes ulcers and it can be easily treated. I'd also recommend she take a good probiotic to help... -
I have suffered from depression since childhood and just 6 months ago found out I am celiac. But more importantly for the depression issue, found out that I had adrenal fatigue about 9 months ago (likely due in part from the celiac). When I began taking low-dose hydrocortisone for adrenal fatigue, much of my depression was lifted (along with irritability...

ARCHIVED Glutamine For Intestinal Healing
Lizz7711 replied to Lizz7711's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think even if the glutamine was bound with another molecule, it would still be dangerous esp. for those already sensitive to MSG etc. Although we do eat many foods that have glutamine in them and it is not inherently bad for us, it seems that many people get too much from many sources and once it reaches a certain threshold, accumulates outside the brain... -
ARCHIVED Glutamine For Intestinal Healing
Lizz7711 replied to Lizz7711's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've been re-reading portions of the book "Excitotoxins: the Taste that Kills" by Russell Blaylock, MD and it seems clear from his studies as a neurosurgeon, that high levels of glutamine/glutamate or aspartate are damaging to EVERYONE, even if not noticable, but especially to those with neurological/degenerative diseases or brain damage. So I think it's... -

I can't at all tell you why this happens with you. But I think there are some principles to understand with the B vitamins. First of all, they are supposed to be in certain ratios together as they are naturally in food, so when you take one isolated at high doses, this can cause problems. In a multivitamin, they OUGHT to be in those ratios, but may not... -

I'm wondering how many of you with such low ferritin have been tested for hypothyroid issues? There's a big connection there, so might be worth exploring if you haven't already. A TSH over even 1.0 WITH symptoms, can signify hypothyroid, so if you have the symptoms, but the doc says your labs are fine, don't just accept it. Go to www.stopthethyroidmadness... -
ARCHIVED Vitamin Deficiency Neuropathy
Lizz7711 replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Just be aware that taking too much B6 in the Hcl form can also cause neuropathy, this happened to me when taking about 150mg per day. It's safer to take in the P5P form, but it's hard to find. I'm currently taking Country Life's activated B6 with P5P. If you were deficient, this may not be an issue for you, i'm not sure...but i'd still advise the P5P form... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Testing
Lizz7711 replied to AliB's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Rachel... you had mentioned that Doctor's Data is a good one to go with for hair analysis, but you have to have a doctor's account with them to order a test. My daughter's doctor won't do this. Is there another lab you or anyone else would recommend for doing hair analysis where I can just order it online? thanks. -
ARCHIVED Glutamine For Intestinal Healing
Lizz7711 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
On another thread we were discussing the issue of taking l-glutamine for intestinal healing. I have my concerns based on the body's ability to convert glutamine to free glutamic acid if there is already enough glutamine in the system, then it crosses the blood/brain barrier and can do damage. But, maybe taking glutamine in this form is safe. Does anyone... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Enzymes

Here's another site about glutamine: Open Original Shared Link It sounds like it may possibly be safe to take it if you're sure you don't already have brain damage. Thjat's the tricky part...how do we know what the accumulation of glutamine is in our system? My dad's mom had alzheimer's and they say for people with alzheimer's to NOT take it, so I... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Testing
Lizz7711 replied to AliB's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It's so easy to look back and see how we should have done things differently isn't it? The tragic thing is that the doctors just really don't know what they are doing. I"m sorry you had to lose your thyroid and go through all of that. But I guess our only choice is to take the positive and see what we've learned, and as you said, try to help others NOT... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Enzymes
Lizz7711 replied to jasonD2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Basically, glutamine is the same as glutamic acid...just different forms of the same amino acid. glutamine, or glutamic acid is naturally present in many foods, mostly meat, dairy...and when it is bound to proteins, it is largely harmless, although I think you can still get too much..for instance, parmesan cheese is way high in glutamic acid and my daughter... -

I will do some more research on the leaky gut issue, I actually have all the resources here, just need to compile the info into something my dad can follow. I'd really like him to get heavy metals tested, but he's in Florida and wont' go to the alternative doc in town becaue the guy doesn't take Medicare..and i've looked for another one and there really... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Testing

Hi Rachel, I'm so glad you were able to figure out what was going on and get help and that you are on the path to healing...it sounds like you really went through a lot. It's so frustrating how little the whole medical community understands about all of these issues, especially the role of heavy metals in human illnesses. My whole life i've suffered... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Testing
Lizz7711 replied to AliB's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have a lot to learn about the genes I think! From what I'm understanding, the fact that my daughter has the 1/2 celiac gene really does not mean anything as far as her perhaps being celiac since she doens't have the "other half"...right? I'll try to read up some more on the topic, thanks for your help! I think she has a leaky gut (me too) just... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Testing
Lizz7711 replied to AliB's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
thanks for the clarification. What does it mean to have a "half celiac gene"? She never had blood tests, but seems to definitely have a leaky gut and reacts to many different foods and chemicals. -

Hi Fedora, Thanks for this info. Can you please help me then to interpret my genes? This is what I had: HLA-DQB1 Molecular analysis, Allele 1 0201 HLA-DQB1 Molecular analysis, Allele 2 0601 Serologic equivalent: HLA-DQ 2,1 (Subtype 2,6) From what you wrote this looks like I have 2.5, right? I didn't have a biopsy but I did have... -

That is interesting, i'm glad you responded so well! Can you explain your gene profile to me? I'm confused becasue my results from enterolab say HLA-DQ2,1 (2,6) and that that indicates the celiac gene (2), but you are listing 4 different DQ genes and saying you need to have DQ2.5 or 8 for celiac? have you ever tried these enzymes discussed here and... -
ARCHIVED Low Vitamin D

I think it's Douglas Labs that makes D3 drops, but not for sure on that...i'm sure there are other companies. Cod liver oil, lemon flavored by Carlson's, is good for SO many body systems as it contains essential fatty acids DHA and EPA that we get if we eat fish 3-4 times a week, but if not, it's good to take this stuff. It's good for the brain , heart...
