  1. I can give a similar story. I've just, at age 42, been diagnosed celiac and have DQ2 and DQ3 genes. I'm sure i've had it my whole life, now have hypothyroidism and adrenal fatigue. But as in your case, i'm convinced my mother died ultimately due to undiagnosed "silent" celiac disease (from where I got the celiac DQ2 gene). She was always very high energy...
  2. My 8 year old started having her classic "food reaction" behavior tonight (clearly different than regular behavior--repetetive phrases, "hate", extreme argumentativeness, whiny etc) and i figured out after asking her questions that she had had some "sugar free" jello at her babysitters. She knows the dyes affect her, and she didn't really understand that...
  3. In addition to pancreatic enzymes, the betaine and Hcl you are taking may help if you have low stomach acid--this will cause malabsorption. A good book on this is "Why Stomach Acid is good For You" by Jonathan WRight. Also, concerning New Chapter's supplements. I love the company too...but can't take their stuff anymore becuase it's all processed in fermented...
  4. Think I figured it out. The baked beans have "organic grain vinegar" in them...does that mean wheat? I just don't understand why I felt totally fine after eating them, and not until 3 hours later did my intestines hurt...does this mean the food was in my stomach for that long before going to the small intestine? yikes! Liz
  5. I checked the Numi website and they claim their teas are all gluten-free and processed far away from any gluten. Doubt it's the packaging. I'm now thinking maybe it was from the WEstbrae organic baked beans or the gluten-free pancakes I had had in the morning and just had a delayed reaction or something. Guess i'll have to just experiment! I've only been...
  6. I drink alot of green tea, usually organic. I've noticed since going Gluten-free Casein-free that certain teas have given me either a casein like reaction (tight throat), or as today a stomach ache. Today I had Numi brand jasmine green tea and my stomach has been hurting ever since. I had had breakfast (gluten-free pancakes) 3 hours earlier so I don't...
  7. Thanks Susie! I need to get Dr. Peatfield's book ASAP. Liz
  8. Thanks for the info and links, i'll check into them! I've been swamped the past few days and won't be able to do any study till later this week. I appreciate the help, Liz
  9. Did you know that the woman who founded the stopthethyroidmadness.com website (Valerie) runs an adrenal forum and she regularly advised people to up their HC even up to 45 mg based on temperatures? There seems to be very little information out there that I consider trustworthy. She of course is not a medical professional, but she has done extensive...
  10. Why would 20 mg cause Addison's, when people regularly take HUGE doses of corticosteroids, prednisone etc, and do not develop Addison's? 20 mg is an extremely low dose. And I do not intend to take it forever...hopefully no longer than a year, giving me time to support my adrenals in other ways (going Gluten-free Casein-free as of NOv 07 should help), and...
  11. One other trick to get veggies in is to get one of those hand-held mixers, cook lots of veggies with your spaghetti sauce and then grind it up in there. If you use a blender, just be sure to keep some extra spaghetti sauce separate to add to the mix as when you blend it it turns a different color and texture and he may figure it out! same thing with soups...
  12. Sorry but anything with merck.com at the end is not of interest to me. You seem to be very sold out to regular medical establishment...believe it or not there is plenty of "evidence-based" medicine that just won't get approved by the establishment because it doens't profit anyone and they prefer old standards. REad "Safe Uses of Cortisol" by William...
  13. Are you checking ingredients for preservatives, food dyes, and artificial sweeteners and MSG? These can be major causes of behavioral issues. Also, if his intestines are damaged, some of the things you mentioned like bacon and red meat might be kinda tough on his system. But I know it can be hard if that's all a kid likes! I'd just be sure to get organic...
  14. There must be another type of cortef! My cortef is hydrocortisone for sure! Open Original Shared Link
  15. Cortef is hydrocortisone, taken at a physiologic dose of 20mg/day (5mg-4 times a day) to help the adrenals rest from having to produce cortisol when they are not doing that in the severely adrenally fatigued person. Since it is just a low dose and doing what our adrenals should be doing, it does not have any side effects, does not raise blood pressure other...
  16. Because of this website, and from reading "Adrenal Fatigue: 21st century syndrome", I was able to figure out that I for sure had adrenal fatigue, and my holistic doc was willing to let me try Cortef for a month to see if it relieved my symptoms of EXCESSIVE fatigue and extreme irritability/impatience, among other things. (this was last September). After...
  17. I think if you want to do a challenge, you should just do it on yourself and not tell them (they're under 5 years old, you don't have to tell them everything and that is not lying). I'd probably advise against challenging them at all. MAYBE with soy and dairy, but defintitley not gluten. From what I understand, the casein only takes two weeks to clear...
  18. That's interesting. I have low adrenal function as well as hypothyroid. Haven't tested aldosterone. Could it be though that the food sensitivities are what causes the hormone/adrenal problems? That's my guess due to the stress the foods are putting on those systems. LIz
  19. I'm actually still figuring that out. As time goes on, I know my self that I am becoming more and more sensitive to the point where if I were to have a glass of milk right now, i'd worry about anaphylaxis because lately when I have somewhat big amounts of casein, my throat gets tight and my whole head feels tight/pressured. However, that said, I still don...
  20. Ok, thanks for the advice! I'll have to test the curry powder...I'm not entirely sure I have a salicylate issue so I guess I really need to do some controlled experimentation. That's crazy about organic vegetables, makes sense though...so do you buy non-organic because of that? Or just cut the outside skins? Is there any hope of reversal of salicylate sensitivity...
  21. Your welcome! I was thinking that alternatively to the elimination plan I mentioned, you could just first eliminate gluten, because if you notice improvement off gluten, you don't want to go back on it to challenge it as that will just continue the damage. Then after that you could test the dairy and soy. Just another way to go about it. I'd personally...
  22. Do some people react only to some salicylates and not others? I noticed that after making this delicious soup made with just chicken broth, leeks, carrots, chinese cabbage, and lentils, with CURRY powder, that I had a headache and tight stomach for two days. I'm thinking it's either the lentils or the curry since the curry powder is high salicylate. I...
  23. I've also had car sickness my whole life. And when pregnant had nausea/vomiting until month 7 and had to take anti nausea meds until then just to get through a day. Since last September I've been taking cortef which is low dose hydrocortisone to treat adrenal fatigue, and a side benefit (besides being miraculously cured of excessive fatigue and irritability...
  24. My daughter and I have been Gluten-free Casein-free for 3 months now. Enterolab testing showed sensitivity to gluten and casein (and soy and eggs). WE use rice milk for cereal, and just don't do cheese, ice cream (Rice Dream makes a good organic gluten free casein free "ice cream" flavor called "mudd pie"), yoghurt, or real butter. I'd also avoid candy...
  25. No, your health is in YOUR hands. Don't ever trust doctors/NPs whatever with your own health, no one cares about your health anywhere near as much as YOU do, why should they? You need to do tons of research and be knowledgable and not too gullible or trusting of the medical world, even though you work in it. How many medical errors do you see every day...
