  1. All Zachary's candies are gluten free: Open Original Shared Link Their candy corn is good, but not as good as Brach's. I had not eaten Brachs in the past because there was info that even though the ingredients are gluten-free the company wasn't really good about stating if candies were made on shared lines. I"ll have to fill out the form and get info...
  2. I saw your post on the tests, I"d love to have a real corona but I'm not brave enough yet. Not that I don't trust your results (I"m a chemist myself), but I don't trust that every batch of Corona will be the same. Have you heard of Daura beer by Estrella Damm? Supposedy they've 'deglutenized' the barley before they brew the beer. Not available everywhere...
  3. As some of you know, the makers of Redbridge put production on hold to reformulate their beer so it could be sold in all 50 states: Open Original Shared Link In short, the alcohol content was high enough that in some states it would have to be re-labeled as a malt liquor beverage, which they didn't want to do. I got my hands on some of the new brew...
  4. OOps, that should be my Dermatologist said....too much DH on the brain, I think!!
  5. This is a misconception: Benadryl will do NOTHING to help DH. Benadryl is a histamine blocker, and histamine isn't a part of the DH pathway, it has to do with your T cells and some other complicated stuff. The only oral medicine for DH is dapsone, which can be nasty in its own right (need regular bloodwork, yucchy side effects). My DH also warned against...
  6. OK, I can see where he's going, he's going to put you on the minimum amount of dapsone that you can tolerate, then have you add gluten back. If you're breaking out, yeah, you probably have DH. I'd try the iodine test while still eating gluten, if you're gluten-free awhile the test doesn't work because there is no gluten in your system to cause the breakout...
  7. I have heard that DH can flare once you start a gluten-free diet...it did for me reaaaaaly bad. My breakouts worsened before they got better, I eventually went on dapsone to clear things up (note; NASTY drug). Make sure you're watching your iodine intake and stay away from NSAIDs for awhile. Don't eat out AT ALL for awhile. Don't just read labels, check web...
  8. I would pay lots of money for a decent gluten-free stout!! I miss my Guinness...I've tried Green's beers, and for me they're waaaay too sweet. Beer isn't supposed to taste like candy...unless you're eating beer candy, I guess. Not my cup of tea. My fave gluten-free beer right now is St. Peter's Sorghum ale, really hoppy and light and not sweet. I"m with you...
  9. I think he has it backwards. If you're on Dapsone and ingest gluten and get a breakout, then it's not DH, it's something else, possibly a wheat allergy. If you eat gluten while on dapsone you shouldn't have a breakout if you have DH, the dapsone keeps you from having DH symptoms. I suggest looking around this topic for info on the iodine patch test....
  10. Sarna Sensitive lotion (the one that doesn't contain menthol) has the same painkiller that's in Neosporin Pain but without the antibiotics. It's the one thing I always turn to to soothe the itch.
  11. See the thread here, and my posts about testing: celiac.com link If you're gluten-free the blood tests will come back negative, you need to be eating gluten so the gluten antibodies can be detected. In my opinion, stay FAR away from dapsone. Made me very sick. Cleared up the DH in 36 hours, but was totally not worth all the awful side effects. There...
  12. Jillian- After being gluten-free two years, the fluorecence test probably won't be useful, I'm afraid! After 2 years there isn't enough gluten built up in his skin, and unless it's a very new lesion, I have a feeling the test will come back negative. To get enough gluten, you'd have to have him eat gluten for about 4 weeks (!). This is what happenned to...
  13. OMG that is awful! She has some serious problems. I had something similar happen, but it was before I was diagnosed. I had 2 roommates, and one of told us that his psycho wife was going to come live with us too (didn't ask, expected to pay the same rent, etc.). So, she shows up and sits on her butt all day. Then I find that when I go to cook some of my food...
  14. Don't get me wrong: I'm not implying that Scott and his team are doing anything wrong, or that you should go back and read everything! I appreciate all the hard work they do, and I, too, use the boards (cautiously) for information. However, I do know a lot of 'newbies', not only to celiac but to dealing with bulletin boards in general. It's too bad that...
  15. This bakery is now out of business, but still makes pizza crusts for local restaurants. Open Original Shared Link
  16. I"ve come back to post on the DH board a few times, but when I go onto other areas, people have been replying to threads that are 5 or 6 years old. I am afraid that newbies will see this and get very confused about what is correct and what is not. Stumbled upon a hot dog discussion where it was plainly listed that Nathan's are not gluten-free, but as of...
  17. Why don't they get rid of these old, unusable threads? There's a lot of information on these boards that is totally out of date and just plain incorrect regarding the gluten status of some foods.
  18. NAthan's hot dogs are now gluten-free too! http://www.triumphdining.com/blog/gluten-free/2010/01/nathans-hot-dogs-are-now-gluten-free/
  19. DH is similar to excema, but in the case of DH we actually know what causes it and what part of the immune system is involved. Not only does your Dr. need to biopsy next to the lesion, he has to do a direct immunofluorecence assay, which not many labs do. HEre is a link to print and show the doctor. Do not put your son on a gluten-free diet until he is properly...
  20. I was going to write up a few more, but then I realized they're all from Madhur Jaffrey's Indian Cooking cookbook. This is a great book for those learning how to cook Indian (it was mu first!). Her dry potatoes and spiced pork chops are great.
  21. Asafoetida, DON'T DO IT!!! Most come with added wheat flour.
  22. Channa Dal (I use this recipe but substitute 2 cans of chickpeas instead of cooking them from dry beans): Open Original Shared Link Mattar Paneer (or Mattar Mushrooms if you can't find cheese)adapted from Time Life's Recipes: the Cooking of India 5T ghee 2T scraped or finely chopped ginger root 1T finely chopped garlic 1C finely choppped onions ...
  23. BAsed on your skin and GI symptoms it looks like you've been glutened. If only your DH flared, I would say that it wasn't unusual, sometimes DH gets worse before it gets better. Since you're just starting going gluten-free, I would check everything you've ate or come into contact with. Also check your beauty products, especially lip gloss/stick and moisturizers...
  24. Thanks much for the info! I won't have access to a car, but these give me a great place to start. I have a feeling I'll be at chipotle a lot that week.
  25. Reposted from the Restaurants thread: I'll be going to a conference this summer and staying near the convention center in downtown Minneapolis. Any suggestions for places to eat? I've found the local celiac support chapter's website and found a 3 year old list here: Open Original Shared Link but would like some updated info. Can anyone help? I"ll be...
