  1. Oh-Oh, the nightahdes are attacking! Tomatoes, potatoes, peppers and eggplant ftom outerspace! Could be a problem with lectins like Shroomster said. I react to nightshades myself. And not in the common lovey-dovey manner. It is a negatory reaction. But I don't think I have any major problems with other lectiins. Nigthshades seem to be it. Except for...
  2. Well gee, as long as you are getting better constant D...
  3. Thank Kiki, I looked at a CVS store today but all they had was Bumblebee and some off brand. The Bumblebee brand has soy in it.

Join us this Saturday, Nov. 17 for a meeting at Tenley-Friendship Public Library covering "Adolescents and Young Adults with Celiac Disease & Gluten Free Travel." In an effort to more effectively plan for the appropriate number of...
  5. There are soy-free tuna cans available. I don't remember the brand names but there are some. It was some kind of heath or organic brand of tuna that I saw. If you read the ingredients on most tuna it is packed in a broth that includes soy.
  6. Hi Megan, Have you tried eliminating common food intolerances like dairy and soy? Niightshades are another big one. Some people aere trying nettle tea to help with inflammation, it might be worth a try.
  7. Hi October3, I think the ttg numbers dropping on the gluten-free diet means something. If gluten was not causing a reaction the ttg shouldn't change right? How do his doctors explain that change? I assume when you say he was scoped that you mean he had an endoscopy, not a colonscopy. Having both would be a good idea. But, an edndoscopy can only...
  8. Hmm, is the pain in the gall bladder area? If it is gall bladdder related pain, it may resolve after being on the gluten-free diet a while. Kimball's biolgy Pages has a diagram of the innards locations on the top right side. The gall bladder stores and releases bile. When greasy foods are eaten, it releases bile to help with their digestion. Your doctor...
  9. Hmm, well, each lab puts out their own scales for the test results. So one labs scale of good vs bad readings can be different from another labs. If your lab results say 140 is normal and yours came in at a much higher level then that seems to be a clear indication of an autoimmune response. IE celiac disease. The lab should provide the ranges for the...
  10. Sounds good Wendy. SCD has a lot of dairy in it, which is why I never did it myself. But you could always skip the dairy stuff. The reason they have so much dairy in it is to introduce natural probiotics from the yogurt cultures. You can also make sauerkraut and get natural probitoics that way instead. If you have a dairy problem that is.
  11. Fatigue is a problem, I had plenty of fatigue for a long time too. It does make doing things harder. Your fatigue coud be due to vitamin defiiciencies, or a thyroid problem (Hashimoto's thyroiditis). Both are things that happen to celiacs more than other people. Here are a couple more meal idea threads. There are also lots of snack threads on the...
  12. Low thyroid is very common as people get past Star Trek age. I am not sure when that is exactly tho. It's actually almost a guranateed thing. So certainly something to have checked. Hot sweats could mean a minor infection or a reaction to something in your diet. Inflammation in the gut coud cause that. Sometimes it is called low-grade fever. Trying...
  13. Soy can cause different symptoms in each person. Yours can be completely different from mine.
  14. Hi BC, Gaining weight after a glutening can be from water retention/swelling. I'd consider an endoscopy with biopsy since you have GI symptoms. It may help identify something else, like H.Pylori or gastritis. The tenderness could be a gallblader issue. which is not unusual with celiac. Do you have more symptoms when eating fatty/greasy foods? Some...
  15. Hi, Your symptoms and more can be caused by celiac. It doesn't go away. The autoimmune reactions can last 2 weeks or more every time you have a little bit of gluten. That is two weeks of continual damage to your gut. The damage to your gut (villi destruction) causes malabsorbtion of nutrients inlcuding vitamins and minerals. Without the vitamins...
  16. You can try some Pepto Bismol for the stomach nausea. Nettle tea may help if you are sore. Peppermint tea can help get gas out of the stomach. Lots of water is good too and some aspirin if there is lots of pain.
  17. Welcome back Caninegluten and thanks for posting. Gluten is linked to spchizophrenia and also gluten ataxia. So it can affect the brain. The links below has some articles on celiac com about mental conditions and celiac. I don't know about all grains cuasing such reactions, I think it is more likely jsut wheat, rye and barley, possibly oats. But we don...
  18. Hi Adam, The gluten-free diet is not going to hurt you, so why not? Gluten-free is a very healthy diet if you stick with whole foods and not many processed foods. Your celiac test may not have shown anything if you are early in the damage process, plus younger people tend to heal faster. If you do gluten-free for 3 or so months, and then do a gluten...
  19. Eliminating only one food a a time is fine if you only have one food intolerance. But if you have several food intolerances it is very slow process and may not work. If you react to eggs and soy the same way and eliminate only eggs, but continue to eat soy, then your symptoms could stay the same. And then you would think eggs are ok. But that would be...
  20. Good article there.
  21. Oh we are funny alright Squirmy, funny in the head! Where's that farm we were supposed to be staying at? Ah, so a woman who likes knitting. Good stuff there LJ. It's so neat that you can make useful things like that. It's great to make something with your own hands. I've got a nice sweater on right now. They sure make a difference in the winter...
  22. Hi ButterflyChaser, I don't know if you have seen this article about NCGI, but it is pretty newly identified in the study. Just for info. The call it non-celiac wheat sensitivity tho. http://Non celiac wh...ists/Page1.html People with celiac have a higher chance of getting other autoimmune diseases than other people do. Sometimes people go in...
  23. I thought treament for Lyme was a 3 month course of antibiotics? Maybe I am wrong about that. Below is link to a thread on lyme. https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/36163-the-lyme-disease-thread/page__hl__%2Blyme Yes, refractory celiac is when the gut doesn't heal on the gluten-free diet. But since you have Lyme it could be affecting your healing...
  24. Ha Ha, that's great test!

    ARCHIVED Always Hot

There have been several threads on night sweats, one is linked below. I sued to have night sweats and they didn't sopt right after going gluten-free. It took quite a while in fact. Many months for them to go away. https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/7242-night-sweats/page__view__findpost__p__148443__hl__%2Bnight+%2Bsweat
