ARCHIVED Repercussions Of Cheating! :(
GFinDC replied to a84c72's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
OK, see, the anti-rustlers have come out on their white horses. Got 'em all-riled up ye have. (Nothing against the anti-rustlers I luv yuhs!) Celiac disease really is a serious disease. It is also the only autoimmune disease we know how to mostly stop, and the prevention is avoiding gluten. Since you already decided not to cheat anymore, hopefully... -
The Funny Pages - Tickle Me Elbow - The Sequel
GFinDC replied to TriticusToxicum's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Since you all are talking about wax, and it's getting to be the cold and dry air time of year,.. You can make a hand/skin lotion very easily. Just get some beeswax and melt it with a little olive oil. Stir it and let it cool. The oil will keep it soft or even liquidy if you add enough. That's all there is to it. Unless you want to add wonderful additional... -
ARCHIVED Repercussions Of Cheating! :(
GFinDC replied to a84c72's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, glad ye ain't no dang rustler there sweetie! I had cravings for gluten after starting the gluten-free diet also. It seemed complicated and hard to understand, and kind of frustrating not knowing what was safe to eat. But eventually all that became second nature and it was much eaiser to navigate the diet. And the cravings faded away. Now gluten... -

ARCHIVED Help For My Husband
GFinDC replied to Katty's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Katty, There are celiac support groups in many areas. They generally have meetings for new people and members once in a while. Some hospitals also sponsor support groups. Support groups are a great way to meet other people with celiac and also learn about good doctors and places to eat etc. http://www.celiac.co...ons-&-Contacts/ Don't worry... -

ARCHIVED Am I Playing With Fire?
GFinDC replied to jasonD2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Jason, You may not have seen this new research that was done this year. It confirms the existence of a non-celiac wheat reaction in some people. They seem to have identified 2 separate conditions in fact. One with celiac like symptoms and another with allergy like symptoms. Right now there is no informaton on the long term effects of these conditions... -
ARCHIVED Repercussions Of Cheating! :(
GFinDC replied to a84c72's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, you aren't the first person to dip your toes in the cheating pool. I was discouraged from trying it by my reactions to using a cc'd toaster early on. After a few weeks on the diet I made some gluten-free toast in my old toaster and had a bad reaction from just little crumbs of old regular gluteny toast. That was a surprise to me at the time. I... -
ARCHIVED Help For My Husband
GFinDC replied to Katty's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Katty, Chocolate Not sure on the chocolate thing. Most chocolate has soy in it and dairy. But dark chocolates are sometimes soy / dairy free, so he may have been thinking of that. Caffeine I don't think lots of coffee/caffeine is beneficial myself, expecially if he doesn't like it much. Iahd to quit coffee and caffeine for a number of... -
ARCHIVED Should I Re-Test?
GFinDC replied to JDThornton's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You might want to get a bone density test done. Bone density is often low in untreated celiac disease. -
ARCHIVED Think I May Have Celiac Sensitivity, Diagnosed Diverticulosis
GFinDC replied to lcn1010's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, You do have symptoms that match celiac disease. Once you get your test results, either positive or negative, you can try the gluten-free diet. If your symptoms improve over 3 months or so then you know there is some kind of issue with gluten and your bodie's reaction. Symptom improvement is the goal anyway, as diagnosis is nice but not critical.... -
ARCHIVED Negative Blood Test - Gastro Says Lactose Intolerance?! Advice?
GFinDC replied to emcoats's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Lactose intolerance is common with celiac disease. Celiac diesease can and does cause lactose intoerlance in many people. Dairy will not affect celiac testing, so you could go ahead and eliminate all dairy from your diet for awhile and see if there is an improvement. -
ARCHIVED Hi! I've Been Watching From Afar.....
GFinDC replied to Bethanne's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Ha ha, yeah that would get a tad boring for sure. You could start with onions, mushrooms, sweet potatoes, chicken, and spinach. If you don't feel better in 5 days, look at swapping out one of those 5 foods for something different. It is possible you could react to any foods, so one of those 5 could be a problem. Some people suggest lamb as a starting... -
ARCHIVED Testing--& Gluten In Diet
GFinDC replied to raso's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
They could do a wheat allergy test also, but you would need to request it, as it is not part of t\he usual celiac testing. If you are going to do the gluten-free diet anyway, then there is no differnce in treatment. Some people have follow up testing for antibody levels once in ahwile to verify the antibodies have droped. But you can't tell if the antibodies... -
ARCHIVED Post Card / Christmas Card Exchange
GFinDC replied to GFinDC's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
The excellent suggestion was made that we use the option of email cards vs snail mail cards. We will assume that cards will be emailed via the celiac.com PM system instead. If you would like to use snail mail, I can send your address to members per your direction also. Or you can PM it yourself instead. Either way works fine. -

Post card / Christmas card exchange A thread to discuss same. Fairly simple really, we exchange addresses and send each other a post card or Christmas card. Either is fine. GFinDC replied to designerstubble's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
HI DS, The gluten-free diet may seem difficult at first as you go through an adjustment period. But after you have done it for wa while it gets much easier. Keeping with simple home cooked meals is helpful at first, you don't eed to worry about things as much since you know what you put in the foods. It's much easier than tryying to sort out a ton of...- 12 replies

ARCHIVED Testing--& Gluten In Diet
GFinDC replied to raso's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
What did your doctor suggest as a duration for your gluten challenge? Sounds like she thinks it will be a positive test right now. If you are eating gluten pretty much every day that should be enough to have a positvie. In theory. In reality none of us can tell you for sure what will happen. But you are having symptoms that may be from gluten / celiac... -
ARCHIVED Feeling A Little Sorry For Myself.
GFinDC replied to Mgyoung77's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You could wait until after Thanksgiving to go 100% gluten-free. A few more days probably won't hurt much. But gluten might actually make you feel worse at this point too. Have you tried Tinkyada brand rice pasta? Tinkyada is fairly inexpensive and many people like it. People are going to be eating gluten all around you for the rest of your life. The...
