ARCHIVED An Interesting Story And Introduction
GFinDC replied to foam's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Just curious if they tested you for TPO antibodies, which are present with Hahsimoto's thyroiditis? Also, are your symptoms relieved by anti-histamines like Benedryhl? -
ARCHIVED Going gluten-free Made Grave's Disease Worse?
GFinDC replied to Owlmuse's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I haven't had hyper thyroid myself, but my mother had Graves and had her thyroid nuked. She did fine with hormone replacement afterwards. Have you had an ultrasound lately to see if anyting has changed in your thyroid? You might have an active nodule that is cranking out excess hormone. Thyroid nodules are very commmon, many people have them. They... -
ARCHIVED Help For My Husband
GFinDC replied to Katty's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Oh Oh, you said the Christmas dinner phrase. Better duck, cause, now you are going to get hit with suggestions for Christmas dinner/day foods. There are usually threads for ideas on that around this time of year. Seems like there was a Christmas stollen thread a while back. I don't remember bread bowls, but maybe they have been done. Yep, lots of... -
ARCHIVED Think I May Have Celiac Sensitivity, Diagnosed Diverticulosis
GFinDC replied to lcn1010's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The test may be affected Latrice. It depends on how fast your antibodies decline after the gluten removal. Some people they go down quickly, for others they stay elevated for months. -
ARCHIVED Think I May Have Celiac Sensitivity, Diagnosed Diverticulosis
GFinDC replied to lcn1010's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Latrice, You could have one of these 2 newly identified conditions that react to wheat. The symptoms can be similar to celiac disease. Non-celiac wheat sensitivity article https://www.celiac.com/articles/23033/1/Non-Celiac-Wheat-Sensitivity-It-Exists/Page1.html -

ARCHIVED Repercussions Of Cheating! :(
GFinDC replied to a84c72's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
i do apologise myself to IH and Gemeni for being critcial. They are both very helpful to people on this forum and great contributers and sources of wonderful advice. I agree that it is the internet disconnect that causes these kind of misunderstandings. It is just not the same as being face to face with someone. And I know very well they and all the other... -
ARCHIVED Repercussions Of Cheating! :(
GFinDC replied to a84c72's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ok, I shouldn't apologize on behalf of other people. You certainly can do that yourselves if you want to. The OP said clearly in the first post she was not planning to cheat anymore and had learned her lesson the hard way. Why she deserves to be jumped on for not being a perfect gluten-free-er right off the bat is not clear to me. Maybe she should be... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Testing On Italian Children
GFinDC replied to ButterflyChaser's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I think I saw a thing about a research study in Italy that was going to test all children for the study. I don't know if that is still going on or not. -
ARCHIVED Is Gluten The Reason For Anxiety, Depression, Fatigue And Panic Attacks
GFinDC replied to susieL.17's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi alexzandryamcnea, Welcome to the forum! You are right, sticking to the gluten-free diet 100% of the time is very important. The immune system reaction lasts for 10 days or more when triggered by gluten, and that is all time your body is being damaged. So if you are eating gluten or getting cross-contaminated twice a monthj, you are never really... -
Psyllium Seed Husk
GFinDC replied to Little Joe's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yerba Prima works fine for me. I haven't tried Trader Joe's brand. -
ARCHIVED Gastroenterology Psychiatrist?
GFinDC replied to Celiac and Discouraged's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you were gluten-free for a year your tests should have come back as normal, ie not celiac. The antibodies drop off when you stop eating gluten. -
ARCHIVED Im New :)
GFinDC replied to joseyheather22's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Josey, Take two aspirin, read all the threads below, and call me in the morning. Ok, you don't have to read all those, some are just for reference. Some starting the gluten-free diet tips for the first 6 months: Get tested before starting the gluten-free diet. Get your vitamin/mineral levels tested also. Don't eat in restaurants... -

ARCHIVED Help For My Husband
GFinDC replied to Katty's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Katty, Yeah, quinoa didn't work for me either in the long run. I haven't tried it in quite a while tho, might be ok now I guess. One day I will try it again. If you keep with a simple whole foods diet like you are doing it should help a lot. Sweet potatoes are safer than regular white potatoes and are much better nutrition wise too. they make... -
ARCHIVED Repercussions Of Cheating! :(
GFinDC replied to a84c72's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, she understands that in her first post in this thread. She said shje wan't going to "cheat" anymore after her MCD experience. OK, I agree with you on the support aspect. Sometimes people here seem to forget what if feels like to be new to the gluten-free diet. It is not a simple change for many people, and it is not easy for many people... -
Hi Madagascar, Welcome to the forum! You need to get tested right away if you want to know if you have celiac disease. You really shouldn't stop eating gluten until all your celiac testing is done. The antibodies will start declining after you stop gluten and the tests depend on them being at high levels in the blood stream. You won't know...

ARCHIVED Undiagnosed Celiac And Gastric Bipass Surgery?
GFinDC replied to joshL's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the forum Floral! I am male so I agree celiac is not a " female" disease. they do say more women get celiac than men, but men have more severe symptoms. I don't remember where I read that, or nessecarily agree with it either.. Regardless, it is good to have you with us to share and learn about celiac disease! Helpful threads: FAQ... -

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed: I Can't Eat Anything
GFinDC replied to Chaff's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
HI, Welcome to the forum! Venting/ranting is allowed here, we all do it sometimes. A week is a good start on the gluten-free diet. But the immune reaction can take a couple weeks or more to die down. And every time you get a little bit of cc ( cross-contamination) in your diet it starts right back up. So you do need to be very careful and avoid... -
ARCHIVED Frozen Veggies
GFinDC replied to tanvee's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You can check their website and see what it says. Generally I consider frozen veggies ok if they have 3 or fewer ingredients and no gluten listed. So far that has worked ok for me on many brands. It is typical to blanch veggies before freezing, so ingredients often list vegatble x, water, salt. -
Hi Sprinkle, I have reactions to nightshades, carrots, grapes soy, dairy, coffee, and hard work. We have many people on the forum with various food intolerance reactions, including corn, salicylates, lectins, eggs, etc. etc.. There is a feller named Riceguy who has reactions to rice as I recall. I stopped eating all rice for quite a while myself. I...

ARCHIVED Don't Know What It Could Be Then?
GFinDC replied to KMMO320's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Please read this article and the study linked in it. This new research (2012) shows 2 possible additional gluten related conditions exist in addition to celiac disease. They are newly identified and don't show up on celiac disease testing. The symptoms can be very similar though. Non-celiac wheat sensitivity article http://www.celiac.co...ists/Page... -
Prednizone knocks down the immune system, so yeah it can be a problem. It would be a good idea to make sure you are getting some Betaine HCL in your diet if you are on prednizone. That may help your stomach acid defeat incoming pathogens. Your stomach acid is your front line defense when your immune system is shut down.

ARCHIVED Looking For Opinions
GFinDC replied to undrznith's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome Undrznith, Some people report that iodine in their diet makes their DH act up more when exposed to gluten. The way they test for DH (dermatitis herpetiformis) is to take a biopsy sample of the skin right next to a lesion, not the lesion itself tho. DH is a skin expression of celiac disease. So if you are diagnosed with DH then you have celiac...
