  1. Hi Julie, Welcome to the forum! Thanks for posting your story, I am sure it wil help somebody. If you do decide you want to know for sure if you have celiac disease, you should get tested right away. The antibodies drop off after going gluten-free and the tests don't work then. It is much harder to get tested later as you would need to start eating...
  2. Hi Mars817, If the testing doesn't show a positive result it is a good idea to try the gluten-free diet for a few months to see if anything changes. We have some memebers on the forum who have never tested positive but still have celiac disease. The gluten-free diet is a healthy diet and wont't hurt you. If testing doesn't show results, then it is up...
  3. That's great that we got the full 25K signatures! Maybe they will get it done finally.
  4. Yep, lots of reading is good Andrei, Here are some more threads for when you run out of reading. The short temper thread is about some of the mental affects of gluten, which sometimes surprises people that don't understand that diet can affect our brains. The cheating thread is a topic that comes up now and again, as people womder how strict they really...
  5. I had ham and eggs for breakfast, Bob'b Red Mill gluten-free hot cereal for lunch and dinner. And mulien tea to drink and water.
  6. The main thing is you are feekig better Dejibo. Now it wil be important for you to think about the changes in your diet and figure out what made the improvement happen. That way you can aviod eating the foods that make you sick. If you search the forum for threads on elimination diets you will find lots of ideas for doing them. They can be a big help...
  7. Hi, It would be good to talk to the doctor before hand. Ask if you can send your symptoms before hand via email or fax. Make sure they know you are only available for the three days. Same with the GI, get the info to them before showing up. And let them know you are thinking of celiac as a possible cause of the symptoms.
  8. Hi Andrei, Welcome to the forum! I posted some thread links that would be good reading for you. Getting better on the gluten-free diet is a good reason to stay on it. It is pretty common for people to have kind of a rollercoaster progress for the beginning of the gluten-free diet. So you may find yourself getting sick and then getting better getting...
  9. Gluten is a generic term for a protein and carbohydrate combo molcule in grains. So all grains do have gluten, but only the gluten proteins in wheat, rye, barley and sometimes oats are a problem for celiacs. Not all gluten is bad.
  10. Hi ReallyGoodScratcher, Have you checked into the DH (dermatitis herpetiformins) section of the board? They usually reccomend avoiding iodine in the diet when the rash is present. Hi Pam Larsen, You sound like a great wife! Being very hungry is something that tends to happen to some people for a while after going gluten-free. Has your...
  11. Hi SMDBill, You will probalby test negative for celiac at this point. Antibodies in the blood stream drop off when a person stops eating gluten. You could get the blood antibody tests done anyway, but don't count on them being positive after just a single glutening. The antibodies that cause the damage are in your intestine mostly, where the action...
  12. Hmm, that would do it for sure! They should put seat belts on those things...
  13. A pressure cooker is what I was thinking of, not a slow cooker. Slow cookers are um, slow. Pressure cookers are fast. I like things fast myself, but I have heard rumors that some women prefer things slow. Could be the reason for the slow cooker preference perhaps? Good to hear you are ok Pateh!
  14. Hi Ashbil, It could be a twisted bowel or an obstruction causing the pain. If you don't get things moving very soon with a laxitive you should see a doctor. A twisted bowel can happen due to spasms in the intestine due to irritation. It is dangerous because if it is twisted in a bad way it can cut off circulation to the intestinal muscles and cause...
  15. Hey Shroomster, What's a happening? Well, its a hurrycane. Lots of wind and rain in spurts. I checked the front door a few hours ago and it was actually a little hard to get it closed again. Strong winds ya know. There are reports of trees down and some flooding around the area. I don't think the flooding is too major but we won't know for sure until...
  16. Get yourself a pressure cooker and cook for your roast for an hour. It will be plenty tender. Is your retainer pressing on your gum line? Maybe that is a side cause of the irritation?
  17. That's great Colleen. Plenty of those foods could be a big help. Their diet is not gluten-free, so watch out for that, But mostly they reccommend whole food items. Yep, pack in some anti-angiogenesis foods every day if you can. Eat to get well, and feel full too. Not a bad plan at all.
  18. Too busy to play footsie Mz. Toes? Oh the horror! Now if you ever change your avatar in the future this will make no sense to people.
  19. That's great Roda! Sounds like you are dogni pretty well there. Here's hoping your recovery is swift.

  21. Yay! Thanks Scott, much better indeed!
  22. Pain after eating could be several things. You might have an ulcer, or you might have gall bladder issues, or you might have gastritis, etc. You might just be gassy. Write down your symptoms as Lisa suggested. It doesn't matter if you have celaic or not, you have symptoms you want help with and that is the doctor's job.
  23. Hi, People on the forum often report having stronger reactions to gluten after they have been off it for a while. Celiac symptoms are quite variable. Some people have no symptoms at all. So it can be all over the place as far as symptoms go. Your family can eat gluten-free at home just fine. gluten-free food is good for them if you stick with a...
  24. Welcome to the forum! Missed diagnosis is very common. Most celiacs in the USA don't know they have it. Stick around and learn with us. We are a very freindly group when we aren't getting over being glutened.
  25. HI, Are you taknig probiotics and using digestive enzymes? The start of the diet can be rough. Things are changing in yuor gut and that can lead to upset/poor digestion. If you don't improve in a month you should consider changing something.
