  1. Hi Clutterhouse, I wonder if they are drinking sodas at school? I react to coca cola, and I don't know why really, Pepsi doesn't bother me. But I only have it once in a while too, not very often or every day like kids tend to do. You might want to look at milk as a possible problem. Many celiacs are lactose intolerant, and can't digest the milk...
  2. Hi Pamela, There are plenty of versions of elimination diets around. My own thinking is to decide on a group of 5 basic food items that you think will be ok for you to eat. You wouldn't want to include any of the major food allergens in that starting 5. Lets say you decided on rice, bananas, , apples, lima beans and chicken or beef or fish. All plain...
  3. Yep, 1 week is just a start. I eat a lot of rice dishes or quinoa myself. There are lots of ways to make rice! Are you familiar with elimination diets? They can be helpful to identify problem foods. Did your blood work show any vitamin levels low? You might want to ask your doctor about taking supplements if they did.
  4. I don't eat the MCD fries either. Thanks for the info on them Jeniba. They sure do list wheat as an ingredient. Vicodin eh, like Dr. House on the tube? I don't take anything except enteric aspirin and potato vodka or tequila myself. Clean living ya' know. Oh, I do take DPP-4 if I have been glutened though. Back on the oats. I got my CSA newsletter...
  5. Here is another thread on DDP-IV Henny. https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/index.php?showtopic=7687 I totally agree that it is best used where there is a small amount of gluten, as in cross contamination. I also don't think it would be good for cheating! Here is a Youtube talking about enzymes in general. Enzymes in Control Here...
  6. Hey Henny, I found the same thing, my reaction got much more pronounced after a while off gluten. I'd been lactose intoleraant for 10 years already so no change there. Some people avoid gluten containing lotions etc, some people say it doens't matter. I try to avoid them myself. I think your theory about your immune system finding new things...
  7. Hi Yvette, You said you are getting sicker every year right? One of the "nice" things about celiac is that you can make a big improvement in your health by going on the gluten-free diet. You can go to a gastroenterologist and have a biopsy done, or you can get blood testing for gluten antibodies. Or you can try the diet and see if it makes your symptoms...
  8. I had a tick above my eye that went away after going gluten-free. I think it was caused by vitamin deficiency. So I think it is possible the pain could go away, although it could take a while. I take vitamin B pills and sublingual B-12 also. Along with vit D3.
  9. Hi again Pupok, Here is an interesting thread on distilled alcohol that might interest you. I've done a little distilling myself, nothing on the scale or sophistication of gfp or Lmac in the thread below though. Anyhow, I think if you start with a a gluten containing source then you can certainly end up with gluten in the resulting whiskey. So, personally...
  10. Welcome pupok! Whiskey is a no-no as far as I know. Any wheat, rye or barley derived alcohol would be a possible problem. Some people say that any distilled alcohols are ok but I don't think that is correct personally. There are potato vodkas that should be no problem. And tequila could be ok but as with everything else it is nessacary to check each...
  11. Thanks Missy'smom! BAM it is! Oh well, but no BAM today! Looks like the inaugration speech is going on and the food hasn't arrived yet. Guess 'ol Emeril got tied up with other things this year. These things happen I guess. Next inauguration we should probably get our orders in a little sooner eh?
  12. Some employers encourage work at home or alternative work arrangements. The reasons may include some of the following: Reduced exhaust emmisions/pollution from commuting. Lower support costs from not having to heat and light the space, or rent the floor space. Lower telephone costs Lower network traffic load If you can show that your work...
  13. Hi Frisbee, Look what I found on the internet!!!! This is from Wiki and talks about fructose malabsorbtion. I don't know if it applies to you or not, but I thot it might help you in your research. Lets get those doctors straightened out eh!? LOL I am not real familiar with the SCD myself, can't help you there. Open Original Shared Link...

Its made from all natural poison oaks...i mean Pwoiuson Oats, with a "T"...because k's are lame" Open Original Shared Link OK, about contamination...
  15. If you stop eating the yogurt you will probably figure it out right? Only thing is if you are getting gluten in the yogurt, which is possible. So maybe get off it and see if things improve? Then you just need to identify all the ingredients in the yogurt and eliminate them one at a time. Or, take the opposite approach and add just 1 ingredient at a time...
  16. Well Ka-pow! Or what that thing is he says! It's about time he cooked me something...! First though things I don't want. No dead raw fish, and no dead raw cows, and no dead raw anything except veggies thanks. Hmmm, no gluten, no dairy, no soy, no yeast of course. Nothing made in a factory by machines with chemical squirting guns and...
  17. Oats are wonderful, unless they make you sick! OK, here is some info that might help. This is a link to a USA FDA slide show put together by Frank A. Hamilton MD NIH, about celiac. This link is to slide 24, where it starts to talk about oats a little. They refer to a "large study" by G. Gilmartin in the 1-Jan-2003 issue of Gut. Thye bascially state...
  18. Hi Sandjosgirl, I am sorry to hear that your daughter has both Crohn's and Celiac. I have celiac and my younger brother had Crohn's and celiac. My older sister seems to have celiac also. I think a food journal would be a help in identifying things she reacts too. The journal might be easier to understand if the items she eats have a fewer number...
  19. One I like to do is chicken and rice with coconut milk, cinnamon, ginger, salt, pepper, lots of garlic, some bok choy and random other veggies. Maybe a few shrimpy shrimps too. Also slice up a couple oranges and put them in peel and all. I find the orange peel bitterness disapates after an hour of cooking. Some people may not though. I never made this...
  20. I don't know if this will help Mr. Moore, but this link is to a thread that is some what about mercury. not much on in it though. Open Original Shared Link I agree that you would be wise to talk with your doctor about these symptoms. They may be something the doc will recognize and be able to help. I find it helps to write down my symptoms before...
  21. Hmmm, yeah, I think that next day stuff happens to most people! Bummer! There are gluten-free alcohols available though. I avoid the gluten-free beers myself because of the yeast in them. It seems like you are in kind of a tough spot for the diet to work. If you are eating in the dining halls and they aren't taking steps to prepare...
  22. I agree that oats are not for everybody. I have read that some people do have reactions to them. I think it is a small number of celiacs who react to oats, but if it is you that is what matters! So it probably is better to avoid them when starting the gluten-free diet, just in case you are one of the people who do have a reaction to them.
  23. Hi Frisbeechaser, It sounds to me like you might benefit from an elimination diet. An elimination diet can be used to identify foods that cause problems for your body. There are various versions of elimination diets around that you can try out. But the basic idea is to reduce the number of foods you eat each day to a certain small number of items. ...
  24. I agree about the elimination diet idea. If you don't find anything in your diet that contains gluten, you may need to do an elimination. Maybe try eliminating some foods and see if you start feeling better after a week. I found that wine and dairy are problems for me, in addition to gluten. I think it is either yeast or sulfites in the wine that cause...
  25. Going gluten-free is quite a change in diet for most people. I suggest adding oatmeal to your daily routine, Oatmeal has lots of fiber and can be help to keep things moving during the adjustment. I like oatmeal with a little peanut butter, orange marmalade, and fruit bits or nuts added. It makes a quick easy breafast. You might be well off to start taking...
