ARCHIVED How To Deal With Glutening
GFinDC replied to GF avenger's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I haven't tried this, but I am wondering if it makes sense to take some tumeric extract after a glutening? Tumeric is supposed to contain a natural immune suppressant, curcumin, and so it might help with autoimmune symptoms. -
ARCHIVED Starting To Feel Like I'll Never Get Better..
GFinDC replied to SamAlexPesk's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
So you felt good for 1 week on raw diet? Why not go back to tha tdiet and see if it helps? It sounds like that would be a pretty good elimination diet also. I don;t know if you are familiar with the elimination diet idea, but it is a good way to find food intolerances. One way is to start from a core of safe foods, then slowly add additional test foods... -
Hi Kimberly, Kimberly, Kimberly, Kimberly, Aren't computers fun, fun, fun , fun ???? Maybe you should go ahead and try him on the gluten-free diet then and see if he improves? You and your daughter are already on it right? Doesn't seem like it could hurt anything to try him on the diet. Later, later, later, later!

Somewhere around here is a thread titled something like "your favorite snacks". It has many pages of snack ideas / dessert ideas for people who don't mind those kind of things (that would include me). Yes it is horrible, pages and pages of gluten-free snacks... Just kidding. I hope you find something you like. Ok, I found it: Open Original...

ARCHIVED How To Deal With Glutening
GFinDC replied to GF avenger's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I really think it makes sense to let the D do it's thing, and clear your gut of the poison (gluten). Getting it out quick is better than using something to keep it in and cause more damage. So, maybe this is rough, but as soon as you realize you have been glutened, eat a whole can of sauerkraut without draining the salty brine. That should clear out most... -
Hi Alli, I've had sleep problems for years. I got much better though after going gluten-free and was able to sleep kind of normally. I think to some extent not sleeping can be caused by the general disruption of the body due to fighting off gluten or other food intolerances. In my case I do have a specific reaction to gluten related to sleep due to...

ARCHIVED Cheese Is That Considered Lactose?
GFinDC replied to pandaman's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I don't think there is any totally lactose free cheese. Most hard cheese is supposed to be lower in lactose than milk, due to the bacteria eating the lactose. but that doesn't mean it is 100% lactose free. -
Great write up Walt! I am sure someone will search this out and benefit from it. Thanks for sharing your finds!.

ARCHIVED Herbs
GFinDC replied to Billygean's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The Mccormick single ingredient spices are gluten-free, but you need to check the ingredients on the spice blends they sell. they may have gluten. Open Original Shared Link Search for gluten: Question Do your products contain gluten? Answer All of our single ingredient spices and herbs are gluten-free and 100% pure, with nothing added... -
ARCHIVED Ups & Downs
GFinDC replied to Jipps's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It can take variable amounts of time to heal. But you need to make absolutely sure you are not getting any hidden gluten in your food too. Watch out for spice blends, and any packaged foods or things in boxes. Just check everything before you eat it. I know one person who was not feeling good on the gluten-free diet after several months. Turned out she... -
ARCHIVED Lingering Pain Possible?
GFinDC replied to GFqueen17's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It can take a week or more to get better, depending on the person. It took me a week last time. Three years is a pretty good long run gluten-free. Congratulations! -
ARCHIVED Much Mucus/water In Stool
GFinDC replied to dixonpete's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I hope it doesn't last long Pete! I don't know if this will help any, but I do have a couple suggestions. You could try some probiotics. It could be your bacteria balance is off some. Have you eliminated dairy from your diet? Dairy can cause lots of GI symptoms. You could also try some fiber, I like pysillium husk powder myself, but there are probably... -
I had the greens for years following a trip to Korea in the military. Not sure it had anything to do with celiac and it wasn't related to too fast trips through the colon. My scariest colors were black and red actually. I have no idea if green is related to celiac. I didn't find out about celiac until years later. I guess that's not much help.

ARCHIVED Hyperthyroidism
GFinDC replied to mirabella's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Mirabella, I have a thyroid issue also due to celiac. It can indeed cause problems. In my case I developed nodules on the front of my throat right on the bridge of the thyroid gland. Not big, but there. Sort of like a big Adam's apple. I have problems sleeping now when I get glutened. If you imagine a big butterfly sitting on your Adams's apple... -
ARCHIVED Pain Question From Being Glutened
GFinDC replied to ToddZ's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Last time I had the most pain in my LLBB (lower left side of belly button) area that kept me company for about a week. Other than that it was overall dull pain throughout the nether regions with clearing in a week. My related symptoms are heavy fog in the head zone with scattered D showers through-out the week. Heavy sleeplessness throughout due to related... -
I do have trouble swallowing sometimes, things can just get stuck it seems. I have not associated it with acid, I think for me it has something to do with my thyroid problem. I usually drink some water to wash the food down. Corn tortillas are the worst thing for this, they seem very hard to get down all the way. It is certainly an unpleasant feeling...

ARCHIVED Glutened-how Do You All Function?
GFinDC replied to alephknot's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Congratulations and welcome on making it to your post gluten poisioning life! I am no expert on getting through a glutening. It all depends on how it affects you as an individual. I have made several mistakes myself in the last month or two, and have tried to figure out a better approach to avoiding accidental glutenings. What bothers me most is when... -
ARCHIVED So Nervous For Testing Tomorrow...
GFinDC replied to wockandwoll's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It should be just a blood draw for the anitbodie tests, all those IGA IGE etc things.. The other test they do for celiac is an endoscopy. I am pretty sure they would use anesthesia for that though, and brief you ahead of time on the procedure and possibly having someone drive you home. In an endoscopy they insert a tube down the throat and take samples... -
One of my sisters has endomertiosis, or at least that's what they call it. She's had several surgeries to free things that have attached in there. I have celiac, and one of my other sisters probably has celiac, being tested soon, and it seems to run in our family. So I think it is related somehow to celiac. Although my younger brother had Crohns'. I...

Below is from their website, it is called the FARRP lab. I have read the some gluten-free food makers use the FARRP lab to test their products. ARCHIVED Still Drinking Regular Beer - No Problems
GFinDC replied to Mountaineer Josh's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Warning, humorous (in my mind) substance ahead. Start humor: ( yo can skip this part if it offends you) I looked through several pages and didn't find the link again myself Calicoe, so maybe I am just imagining it. You'd think I could figure out something more interesting to imagine though, drat! Anyway, it seems we just won't know for sure until one... -
It sounds to me like you bought something that was repackaged locally. So you would need to go to the person you bought it from and ask them to verify if it is gluten free. If they can't provide a written ingredients list or copy from the original packaging then it is probably too risky to use. Personally I am planning to buy whole spices and grind them...

ARCHIVED Still Drinking Regular Beer - No Problems
GFinDC replied to Mountaineer Josh's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I thot someone had already posted this link to an article on this site about barley. Anyway, here it is again. Seems the barley enzymes destroy some of the gluten proteins when the seeds germinate, but not all of it. Heating or roasting might do more to destroy the proteins I guess, but that would be something needing research or knowledgeable people to... -
ARCHIVED Benefiber "gluten Free" Made W/ Wheat!
GFinDC replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Yerba Prima brand Psyllium husks. It is a powder so you can put it in any food you want to. Not saying this is better than other brands, it is just the one I picked up.at Vitamin Shoppee. Open Original Shared Link -
