  1. Do the lumps on your tummy spell a word or phrase? OK, sorry, just kidding! I have celiac and have plenty of experience with gas and bloating, but I don't remember ever having lumps appear, vs. overall expansion in the abdomen. Maybe that has something to do with you having children, I suppose that could cause a difference there. Have you tried...
  2. Hi Tammy's friend, Have you tried an elimination diet? If you do an elimination diet you can usually pinpoint foods that are affecting you. once you pinpoint one food, don't stop. Eliminate that food and put it on the bad list. Keep adding foods to the diet one at a time because you may have several food sensitivities. Start with a basic rice diet...
  3. You might want to double check all your regular items for hidden gluten also. Eventually you might find some. Or not. (Just trying to get on the eventually train here).
  4. Chunky applesauce with cinnamon, dried cranberries, a tablespoon of peanut butter, a tablespoon of Hershey's dry coco powder, and 2 minutes of nuking power. Remember to tap your foot during the nuking.
  5. I think it is much more noticeable when I eat gluten now than before going gluten-free. Before I Was always in a bad state GI wise and had other symptoms like swelling feet, sleep problems, and brain fog. Now if I get glutened I notice the symptoms because they are not how I am used to feeling. I am used to feeling better now! Stay on the diet and get...
  6. I thought this link might interest people as it has response from some makers on gluten-free status. Open Original Shared Link Also, I got a response from Almaden wine that they cannot guarantee their wines are gluten free. They are the only one I checked on. The web page I linked lists some gluten-free wines though.
  7. The advice to simplify your diet is good advice. Here's some idears, free for the taking or not. Avoid any processed foods. Buy yourself a big old bag of brown rice or several smaller bags of different kinds of rice. Get yourself a bunch of interesting looking veggies to throw in the rice and some salt and pepper and garlic if you like it. Avoid spice...
  8. I have had similar things happen, although different also. I can't sleep after getting glutened because my thyroid goes crazy. Also have gut issues including some pain in LLBB (lower left of belly button). I do get extra hungry for some reason and I Can't explain that at all. Lately I had been eating less, feeling less hungry but glutened myself this...
  9. Well, I have sure been there with the long nights in pain, on the floor, the bed or anywhere. I used to lay in bed all night rolling from side to side. It seemed to me like it was never going to end really. But it did, when I went gluten-free. I am 9 months into the diet and still learning things to avoid, and sometimes learning the hard way. My latest...
  10. I have been trying to figure out what glutened me this week. I only added a couple things to my diet that I hadn't been eating. Rice Dream milk with Rice Chex gluten-free cereal, and ground cumin and corriander spices (separate food). Something definitely got me good and it's probably the Rice dream or the spices. But the spices are Mccormick and should...
  11. First off, I don't reccommend drinking regular beer, and it probably is not the best choice when there are gluten-free beers available after all. Why take the chance? But I do want to share this quote from the US FDA hearing on food labeling in 2005. Keep in mind this is from 2005 and I don't know if CSA has updated information since then that would...
  12. Hi Marcus, When you go to the doctor you might want to ask for a thyroid panel. Thyroid disease is sometimes present along with celiac. One of the symptoms I have when glutened is that I can't get to sleep. My thyroid goes into overdrive and my ears start ringing louder and other less wonderful things to talk about happen too. When this happens I...
  13. You might want to think about cutting out yeast also. This study showed that some Crohn's patients had reactions to yeast, antibodies to it on their blood. One of my brothers had Crohns. I have celiac but am also sensitive to yeast. I just figured that out recently in fact. It makes my ankles swell. Open Original Shared Link Second, twins who had...
  14. I suggest you get the tests done. Keep eating the wheat etc and get the blood tests. You can always go gluten-free as soon as your appointment is over. Maybe your friend can recommend the doctor who diagnosed them. The reason I think the testing is a good idea is to share the results with your family. They may not want to accept the possibility that...
  15. Well, I hope it works out for you Curious. If you were not diagnosed celiac and don't think you have celiac then I suppose it might make sense to go back to that evil grain. Horrors! But of course if you were diagnosed that is entirely different, and very bad for your health to continue eating wheat. I hope you learned some good eating habits on...
  16. I eat a lot of rice and fixins now. I don't buy much of any processed foods except for the Van's gluten-free waffles or Kinickinick bread sometimes. I make a pot of veggies and meat on the weekend and freeze some. Then each weekend I make a different version so I have a variety during the week. I also am learning to make dips for Fritos and trying Waldorf...
  17. Ok, just some ideas to think about here. She might benefit from a small fast, just a day to let things heal up some. Then start on plain rice with some olive oil and salt. Then add some bananas to the rice. She shouldn't drink a lot of water with her meals. Slowly add things that are plain simple foods. Like adding veggies in the rice. Check everything...
  18. By the way Whitball, You might want to get a heating pad for your wrist, and also one of those squeezy toys with gel in it. A pair of gloves for cold weather might help too. You can squeeze the toy and make your own phy therapy at home.
  19. Hi Marcus, I had a twitch above my left eye for years until I went gluten-free. I also have ridges on my finger nails. Sleep problems, tiredness, aand fogginess also. So it sounds to me like you are definitely a possible celiac. I suggest getting the blood test done, even if it is next week. It would be best to keep eating bread or other gluten foods...
  20. Hi BethNC, You might want to try some probiotics one or twice a week. And cut down on sugary foods for a while. Keep spices to a minimum to start, don't use any you are not sure are gluten-free. I put a little pysllium (1/2 teaspoon) in my food and it helps me. I'd cut out dairy also, at least for a few months. But take a calcium pill if you do.
  21. This page talks about carbohydrates in soy that can't be digested by the human gut. So they cause GI sypmtoms when the bacteria get happy with all that carbohydrate to eat. Seems this perosn wrote a book on it. I haven't read the book. Open Original Shared Link Quote below from "THE WHOLE SOY STORY" by Kaayla T. Daniel, PhD "THE TWO STOOGES:...

  23. Hi Beth, It depends on how your body reacts to it really. If you feel it is causing you problems maybe cutting back on it more makes sense. I am assuming you are asking about typical lactose (milk sugar) intolerance symptoms like gas and D. I have read that people think casein (mik protein) can be a problem for celiacs but I don't know about any limits...
  24. Hi Meline, Once your gut is healed up you may be able to tolerate gluten better as far as GI symptoms. At least at first. If you have celiac though and keep eating gluten the damage builds up and the symptoms could get worse over time. Regardless of the GI symptoms the immune response damage to other parts of your body is still a possibility. Some...
  25. Hi ATX, Just FYI, There is another thread on this topic Forum Celiac Disease - Related Disorders & Research Topic Soy Intolerance, how do you react? Open Original Shared Link They haven't made the rat connection yet. But lots of people have posted about their reactions to soy there.
