  1. Welcome to gluten-free! I found that there are lots of things to eat after a while. Rice and veggies and some kind of dead animal is good. Stew is good and easy to make in a pressure cooker. Whole Foods has some pretty good store brand gluten-free breads and things. Corn tortillas and corn chips etc... There is an article on this site listing safe...
  2. Hi, I am sort of in the area. I live in DC on Crapitol Hill. I have been gluten-free since Thanksgiving of last year. There are some groups that have local chapters in the area, although I haven't hooked up with them myself as yet. There is a yahoo group called Sillyaks that has people around here, and the CSA (Celiac Sprue Association) has a lookup...
  3. I get night sweats also, when I am glutened. I have a thyroid nodule and I think the sweats are caused by hyperthyroid reactions to the gluten. I get the sweats after eating also. I just started hypertension meds, but I don't know if high blood pressure has a possible relation or not.
  4. I had the FNA, and it was no big deal. The doc didn't do any numbing shot. They use a very thin needle so it doesn't hurt. If I wasn't paying attention I probably wouldn't have noticed it even.
  5. Hi Chrissy, Personally I am not willing to go on gluten just to get a test result. My symptoms when I get glutened are pretty obvious to me though. I did get a positive on the gene test and Dr. Fassano said my symptoms were a match for celiac. The value of being tested is something you would need to think about and decide if it is important enough...
  6. I have been reading on the Medhelp.org site that selenium is thought to reduce thyroid antibodies for a while up to 9 months. So I am trying that at 100 mcg daily for now. Also doing some L-carniteine and Alpha lipoic Acid. Just started all these so not sure if they are a real help or not. I seem to be able to sleep better so far, but it's only been a...
  7. Ok I found this link about decreasing permeability of the gut. They say that black pepper, nutmeg, and bay leafs can help reduce permeability of the intestine, which would be good to know if accidentally glutened. Hot peppers / paprika increase the permeability, so a bad idea if glutened. Black pepper, nutmeg and bay leaf tea anyone? I don't know if this...
  8. I have what I Think is something called sycope happening now. I just start to fall over in my chair and then snap back aware. I haven't figured out any certain relation to dizzynesss and glutening time frames. Could be you have an inner ear thing going on also. Allergies can do that and make a person dizzy.
  9. Lara bars are good. The Whole Foods I went to had some of them marked gluten-free, but others were not. So I guess it pays to check each flavor before hand. They have a lot of flavors!
  10. I get various symptoms too. Can't sleep for days wich I attribute to my thyroid acting up due to glutening. I am planning to see a doctor for more thyroid tests soon. I guess what I am saying is that if you have an associated condition, then your symptoms can flare in that related condition. For me I tend to get hyperthyroid, but am usually hypothyroid...
  11. This might interest you. There are products that you can apply to your hands to prevent some contamination. There is one called Liquid Gloves that I have read some artists use to keep paint off their skin. This Skinwear product is the US version of the Liquid Gloves product. I haven't tried these products so I don't know how well they work. Open...
  12. Yes yes, ring ring ring. I never answer but they do keep on ringing. Well, sometimes it varies, but mostly just in volume. Ring ring ring, ok, hold your horses, I'm coming - not!
  13. Hypothyroidism can cause sleepiness also. It might be a good idea to get your thyroid levels checked sometime if it continues for a while after going gluten-free.
  14. Well, I spent a bunch of time reading "whining" (just kidding!) stories by people on this forum. It really helped to see that other people have the same kind of problems and feelings and also learn how they dealt with them. There are some pretty neat people around here! Then after I started actually feeling like a person for the first time in 10 years...
  15. Has your doctor checked your thyroid levels? You might have a thyroid problem causing you to feel tired. They kind of go hand in hand for a lot of people with celiac. Also take some B vitamins, and a multivitamin. Make sure to verify they are gluten-free before buying them. Liquid B-12 is available and absorbs in the mouth. Your doctor can probably...
  16. Hi Cruelshoes, Your husband sounds like a super model wannabee! 5'7" and 135 lbs is scary. I used to eat much more before I went gluten-free. Now I eat less and don't feel hungry. I feel lots better too, even have some energy. Hopefully the doctor will do a good job on the endoscopy and take multiple samples for review. I have read several times...
  17. Most stores keep their gluten free bread like items in the freezer. Sometimes they have a special little tag with gluten free written on it.
  18. OK, fair warning, this first video is a little crude, but could be humorous also. Wait it out, it gets better after the first 10 seconds or so. Rathergood anal seepage This one is a skit about gluten invading the body and well, you know... Open Original Shared Link This is another from rathergood. I love your pants.
  19. Thanks Patti (Jerseyangel)! It sure makes sense there would be a thread lie that around here. Thanks for the link!
  20. Hmm, did he run the full set of tests? Sometimes they only test for one version of the antigens, and that may miss others that are active. Not everyone reacts the same. If you get your test results and post them, someone will probably be able to interpret them for you. I became lactose intolerant also, and it took 12 more years to get diagnosed with...
  21. I'd like to see the good things thread too, if someone can remember the title or some keywords. Anyone? Susan, ShayFL is right about the fries. There are several threads in the forum that talk about french fries and possible issues with gluten. Do a search on McDonalds and fries and you will find some. Same thing with potato chips. It seems like...
  22. Not all wines are gluten free. You need to check on the kind you have, just like any other food. You might also be having a reaction to the yeast in the wine.
  23. How about a topic on expanding testing for celiac? It seems to me there should be routine celiac testing done whenever thyroid issues are suspected. Are there other situations where a celiac panel testing should be performed, where it is not the norm to perform it now? Like in other autoimmune diseases. How can doctors be encouraged to start doing more...
  24. I wonder if it would be worthwhile to do a thread on how things have improved for people after going gluten-free? What positive changes they have experienced?
  25. Congratulations Ravenwoodglass on making the world your oyster!
