ARCHIVED loose diagnosis, pls check out my labs
GFinDC replied to mirror~pool's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi, ttg is just an abbreviation for Tissue Transglutaminase IgG or IgA. -
Hi Kathryn, That's a bummer about the insurance. If you are not going to do the doctor thing, then it might be well to consider yourself celiac and eat like a celiac for a year. You'll need to avoid all wheat, rye, and barley. That includes barley malt which is sometimes listed as just malt. I don't know how you eat now. But a good way to start...

ARCHIVED Bleeding - Could it be related? Help!
GFinDC replied to VeggieGirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Veggiegirl, You might want to read up on dermatitis herpetiformis (DH) on the forum. It's a rash that some celiacs get that is very itchy. The testing for DH proves celiac as only celiacs get DH. There is a section of this forum dedicated to DH: www.celiac.com/forums/forum/26-dermatitis-herpetiformis/ Cyclinglady is right, celiac damage impairs... -
ARCHIVED Do Wild Oats contain Gluten?
GFinDC replied to Nomi2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Does anyone remember the study a while back that found gluten contamination in store bought flours that would normally not be expected to contain gluten? I am thinking they tested corn and rice for and found gluten contamination. Anyway, the point is, products like corn meal may not be safe to use in Nomi's products even though there is no apparent reason... -
ARCHIVED Just want to cry.......
GFinDC replied to alfenner's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, Your gastro doctor is a dummy. You never should have stopped gluten until the testing was completed. The first testing should have been the blood antibodies. Then you get an endoscopy if the antibodies are positive. The University of Chicago celiac disease center recommends 12 weeks of eating gluten before and endoscopy for celiac testing. You... -
ARCHIVED Glutened by ocean spray cran raspberry.
GFinDC replied to Kurasz's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I wouldn't even think of eating hotdogs or sausages from a convenience store roller. People are picking the hot dogs up with tongs and putting them in a gluteny hot dog bun all day. Obviously there is going to be gluten all around the cooker. Have you checked into gall bladder problems? I think gall bladder issues can cause green stool. IMHG (in my... -
ARCHIVED Do Wild Oats contain Gluten?
GFinDC replied to Nomi2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi Kurasz, Glyphosate was discovered in 1970, celiac disease has been around for hundreds if not thousands of years. Hi Nomi, The word gluten the way it is used on this forum and by most celiacs is a protein in the wheat, rye and barley grains. All grains contain a protein called gluten, but only these 3 commonly cause the celiac reaction... -
ARCHIVED Newbie with questions
GFinDC replied to Jen91's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Jen91, I know you were tested multiple times over the years. Celiac disease can develop at any time in your life. Some people are diagnosed young and some later and some much later. So repeated testing isn't a waste of time. The thing about gluten sensitivity vs celiac disease is there isn't much known about gluten sensitivity. There aren... -
ARCHIVED Newbie with questions
GFinDC replied to Jen91's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Jen91, Yes, symptoms can actually seem worse for a while after going gluten-free. Your digestive system is starting to heal and that is not a one or 2 day thing. Some studies said the recovery time can be up to 18 months. I think most people will get major relief of symptoms long before that though. If you are planning to be tested again you need... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy done - do my results show celiac?
GFinDC replied to kkay's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Kkay, The biopsy shows damage to your intestinal lining. The antibodies test could show what caused the damage.m I think it is highly likely you have celiac disease. The doctor at this pint should be doing the full celiac panel, not just the ttg, IMHO. -
Hi Kam, I am sorry you are having symptoms. Salmon, mackeral, and sardines are good sources of vitamin D. I saw your post about Addison's Disease. Selenium may help your symptoms there. You could also try stopping caffeine for awhile and see if that helps any. It's easy to get gluten in your diet without realizing it. Anything processed is...

ARCHIVED Between the blood and endoscopy test
GFinDC replied to Staceyb09's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Stacey, I think you should go back on gluten now. Why go through an expensive internal procedure and not be prepared as best you can be? It's not something you want to repeat for no good reason. You really shouldn't stop eating gluten until all the tests are done and the test results received. It's rare, but sometimes test results get lost and... -
Cock Brand Products
GFinDC replied to saraahlynne's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications

Hi mathieml, Personally I think it's best to stick to whole foods while healing. Dairy is a no-no too. Many foods may cause reactions or digestive symptoms at first. When your small intestine lining is damaged, it can't do it's job right. Hormones from the small intestine also affect release of digestive juices from the gall bladder. Also, the poor...

ARCHIVED Do you think I have Celiac?
GFinDC replied to True Blue's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi True Blue, Yes, you can have celiac disease with no digestive issues. At least for a while, but symptoms will always pop up somewhere eventually. You might get a skin rash called dermatitis herpetiformis (DH) instead, or gall bladder problems, or joint pain, or trouble walking or concentrating or remembering things, etc. Your children won't... -

ARCHIVED Does anyone here have micosopic colitis
GFinDC replied to Beachgrl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Beachgrl, It won't hurt anything to go gluten-free now, except the possibility of getting a diagnosis of celiac disease. When i went gluten-free, it seemed like the initial changes were spread over about 6 weeks. I had gut spasms for that time. And other changes, all for the better. Initial recovery from celiac damage can take up to 18 months... -
ARCHIVED TTg level high even after 6 years
GFinDC replied to Nobody's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Nobody, Welcome to the forum! I noticed you said you have been avoiding wheat products. That's good, but are you avoiding rye and barley also? Wheat, rye, and barley are the 3 grains that cause reactions in celiac patients. About 10% also react to oats. If you haven't had the full celiac antibodies test panel, it might be worthwhile... -
ARCHIVED Pain relievers
GFinDC replied to DKH0614's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi DKH0614, I use aspirin, Pepto Bismol, and peppermint tea or Altoids peppermints. Pepto Bismol has a soothing effect on the gut. Pepto Bismol also has aspirin in it. Peppermint is helpful for relaxing smooth muscle tissue and getting gas out of the stomach. As per KarenG, you may be reacting to dairy. Dairy has a sugar called lactose in it... -
ARCHIVED Celiac symptoms and diagnosis.
GFinDC replied to Laurabella's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Laurabella, Yes, you could have celiac disease! It is important to keep eating gluten until all testing is completed, including an endoscopy with biopsy samples if the doctor recommends it. The doctors usually do want the endoscopy. The biopsy samples of the small intestine lining (4 to 6 samples) are checked for microscopic damage that indicates... -
ARCHIVED Does anyone here have micosopic colitis
GFinDC replied to Beachgrl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Beachgrl, We have had members with microscopic colitis before, usually in addition to celiac disease. Have you been tested for celiac disease? The reason I ask is, it is much better to be tested for celiac before starting the gluten-free diet. The primary tests for celiac are to detect antibodies to gliaden in the bloodstream. Those antibodies... -
Hi, Nope, not me anyway. Some people with celiac get dermatitis herpetiformis (DH), which is a skin rash. I am not sure DH looks like that picture though. DH is itchy, and is affected by iodine in the diet also. I would say it's a little itchy, but some other forum members might lynch me if I said its "a little itchy". There is a sub-section...

Sweet potatoes are an option. Some people use a ricer to make cauliflower "rice". Quinoa might work, but make sure you rinse it well.
