  1. Rock on Sweetfudge! I'm pretty sure there's no such thing as too much avocado! They are fantastic in a green smoothie and make it creamier. If you google greensmoothie, you can find all sorts of recipes.
  2. Can someone tell me if using rice milk to bake/cook with works ok? Rice milk to me is closer in taste to cows milk, but last night I made a pie and used reg milk because I wasn't sure if the rice milk would work out. Thanks!
  3. Hello there It sounds like a pretty good idea. There's nothing that would hurt you, and she's very likely thinking that only whole foods will help your GI system, and possibly eliminate any other aggrevants. I would guess if she said all grains that would include buckwheat, millet, quinoa, etc. Make sure you get your carbs though... very important brain...
  4. Just to add to your list of possibilities, I've read that papain, an enzyme in papaya has a property that renders gluten harmless.... Although I wouldn't dare try it. Another experiment for the lab! Liz
  5. Welcome! I'm new here, but this is also the best place that I've found. What JerseyAngel said is right, DO NOT stop taking your meds. I had the same problem... everything I ate made my stomach hurt. EVERYTHING! The DR put me on something and it is working. But only if I take it, and occasionally I still feel a little pain. Eventually, I hope to not have...
  6. Rosebud, I am with you! Those Lifestream waffles are pretty darn good!! I discovered them yesterday and had them for breakfast this AM. It was such a nice change from my regular cold cereal, and it felt so good to finally eat waffles again and know that I wouldn't pay for it later!!
  7. I can't really handle caffeine much either. It hurts my stomach ALOT! Very sad though, since I love coffee. But I gave it up a few weeks ago. How long have you been gluten-free? My two biggest symptoms were headache and exhaustion. It took me a few weeks (or maybe even a little longer) to not wake up exhausted and get worse through the day. But since being...
  8. You can be allergic to the entire egg, although egg white allergy is the more common. I've wondered about amounts too, but I think an allergy is an allergy; any exposure is going to produce a reaction. Some people have more severe reactions like going into anaphylaxic shock, or it could just give you GI discomfort (like me). My cousin is allergic to dairy...
  9. I am actually allergic to egg whites. When I eat eggs, they give me a pretty bad stomachache- kind of like a burning sensation that usually lasts for a few hours and will sometimes ease up after I eat again. Somethings I can tolerate that are made with eggs and somethings I can't. I recently bought some gluten-free bread from Trader Joe's that had egg whites...
  10. Thanks Lisa, at least now there's hope that this will go away and I can stop taking pills twice a day also! I HATE!!!!! taking pills. I am only 25 and definitely don't want to be on meds for the rest of my life. I have given up coffee, and hot tea among other things, and I'm just looking forward to when I can have coffee with no pain!
  11. Thanks for the advice. They gave me Pepcid at the ED and I've been taking it and I have noticed a difference. I felt however that the Dr in the ED took the lazy way out... it doesn't matter what I eat, I have stomach pain. When I made the appt with the GI and told them that, she said "I have gastritis, but only certain foods cause a reaction, like coke or...
  12. I get the same headache... I know exactly how horrible it is. Mine usually starts within 30 minutes to an hour. I have tried all the same things, thinking if I drink more water or eat some fruit I can flush it out faster and unfortunately, it doesn't work. I've tried all types of meds I could find... aspirin, tylenol, excedrin (pick a type) got a head/neck...
  13. Hi everyone! I went to Mimi's earlier tonight and they had a great gluten free menu/information page. The hostess printed it out for me before we were seated, and in reading it, they give great suggestions to avoid CC and are willing to cut fruit or saute things in a separate pan. I would post it on here, but it's a 4 or 5 page PDF file. You can however...
  14. i was told yesterday (at the ER) that i had gastritis but probably had more serious issues such as IBS and should go see a GI. I made the appt today for a GI and their response to IBS was " (sigh)...EVERYBODY has IBS... we'll figure out what's really going on" which REALLY made me happy, as I believe IBS to be a sympton that has become at catch-all to DRs...
  15. has anyone out there heard of or experienced nausea while exercising... even while you are trying NOT to overdo it? i understand it can be associated with leaky gut/celiac? i experience this problem a lot and wondered if i was alone on that or if anyone had any pointers. thanks
  16. I am with the rest of you, I love avocadoes plain too! They are great as guacamole (mash them up with tomatoes, cumin, onion if you like S&P). If you can eat rice and beans, it goes GREAT on top of that, makes for a great and filling meal. I also like to make green smoothies, as an interesting way to get my greens... take a handful or two of spinach...
  17. In answer to your question; I ate bread, had a beer and some multi grain chips that day before, and some bread type food a few times the week before. How common is a false negative on those blood tests?
  18. hello all!!! i am pretty new to this website and this whole gluten free thing, so thanks in advance! for the past year, i had terrible headaches, and all i wanted to do was wake up one morning and feel good. my headaches were occuring almost every day, and i after i ate i would have this naseous feeling in my stomach like i needed to eat more, but it never...
