  1. I am all about some veggies... but that doesn't always work. I drink 1/4 cup aloe vera juice (mix it with something, tastes kind of metallic) which has a pretty big amount of magnesium in it. I think that because it's already liquid, it does that trick much faster. I'll take it at night and things are moving along in the morning. Others will tell you...
  2. I just voted too. We're still up by 3%!!!!
  3. It's possible to have a problem with gluten and not have Celiac... but your unexplained weight loss and vitamin deficiency are pretty classic symptoms. Especially the weight gain when following the diet. What tests did they do on you? It is not uncommon for them to be negative.
  4. Add my mother's, mine and my husband's vote for the NetiPot/saline rinse. Works wonders!!! I had horrible sinus pressure and I found a homeopathic combo that works wonders. If something along those lines is available where you are, I would definitely check into that. You can take them pretty much as often as needed with no nasty side effects. My husband...
  5. NC is made up of small towns. I consider myself pretty fortunate to be in Raleigh... we do have a lot of stuff. And if we don't have it, you can be sure Cary does.
  6. At least you have learned one very valuable piece of info... you are wheat and gluten intolerant. And congratulations on being one week gluten-free! For me that was the hardest week. But, you need to give it a little longer. For me, my immediate rxn to gluten is a headache, which went away immediately. The digestive things are still clearing up, and it...
  7. Congratulations on your good news!!!! I'm pretty sure your going gluten-free had a huge hand in your situation turning around!
  8. I have BCBS PPO also. Where do you find the information for that? If they would pay 80-90% of mine, I might spring for the test.
  9. For what it's worth, I doubt myself at LEAST once a week. But then I remember what happened the last time I ate gluten... slowly I'm staying convinced I have made the right choice. My panel was negative too, and it's not surprising that yours was either. Half of this board had negative or inconclusive blood tests. Doesn't mean you don't have a problem with...
  10. Thank you both! I am going in tomorrow to see my OBGYN. When I called them to get an opinion, they called right back and asked if I could be there tomorrow, so I figured it's best not to put it off.
  11. I called them and they're supposed to call back. It seems like there is a link to multiple reproductive issues with Celiac and it's hard to know what fits where. Seems like everything fell apart a little over a year ago... before that nothing was ever wrong with me. oh well... I'll get to the bottom eventually. BTW... congratulations on your new grandson...
  12. So some of you might remember that a few weeks ago, I went to the ED for some pretty nasty stomach pains. They did ultrasound, found nothing, and sent me home with gastritis and a rx for pepsid. Went to the GI to follow up like an obedient patient, and he ordered a CT scan and told me I didn't have gastritis. Had the scan the 23rd... fast forward to today...
  13. I did an elimination diet on my own after a year and half of constant headaches and fatigue that got steadily worse. The LAST thing I thought would bother me would be gluten products and wouldn't you know, it was the cuprit. I went to my GP and had them do a Celiac panel, but by then I had been gluten-free for a month and the test came back negative. At this...
  14. I tend to go from one extreme to the other, but mostly linger with the big C. I tried the magnesium, and while it made me generally feel much better, didn't help with the C. So last night I drank a 1/4 cup of aloe vera juice. Doesn't taste so great, so I mixed it in with some other juice. But in my book of natural cures, it highly advocates aloe vera juice...
  15. Soy sauce has wheat in it, which is probably why your wife freaked about the teriyaki sauce. You can make your own teriyaki sauce, (which I happen to like more) using Tamari- the gluten-free soy version of soy sauce. I don't much care for the taste of soy sauce, I use it only to cook with. My husband uses it on rice and different things, and he says the tamari...

    ARCHIVED Sulfites?

Sulfites bother me too. But not my digestion. The smell of them in dried fruits makes my chest tighten up and burn immediately. In red wine, I may or may not get a headache, really depends on how "cheap" it is. I really don't drink wine too much, but I usually do better with white, even though I really prefer red. Sensitivity to sulfites is pretty common...
  17. So far, I'm the only one with gluten issues in my house. But my DH has been sooo great about it, even realizing when he's dipping a knife into the PB a second time. About the only thing in our house is bread, which I truly could care less about. He takes his cereal to work and leaves it there. The other night, we had pizza. He bought me an Amy's and regular...
  18. The good life brand double chocolate brownies (i think that's the name) are pretty stinkin good!!! My husband and my son, both of whom eat gluten, loved them and thought they were great. Check them out for a cookie fix! The great thing about good life is that they do not use the "dirty eight" allergens, and have facilities dedicated to these items so there...
  19. LOOOOVE Curtis!!! My husband tells me I need to go to Whole Foods in the middle of the day so maybe one day I'll bring Curtis home with me! Thanks, that is soo cool of him AND it sounds delicious!
  20. Where do you get Gillians? Is it the freezer aisle? I would like to have bread now and then, and the only I've tried so far was Trader Joe's french rolls... they were big, but had a significant amount of egg whites in them and did a number on my stomach. I've haven't had a sandwich since Dec- when I purposely glutened myself for my blood test.
  21. I think the words prawns and shrimp are interchangeable, although prawns are generally referred to as larger, freshwater crustaceans, whereas most people associate shrimp with smaller salt water crustaceans. They taste the same to me though!! YUM!
  22. April, thanks for that post!!! I got my bloodtest, which was negative, and I just chalked it up to being gluten-free for a month before. And I'm sure that was part of it, but my Total IgA was 19 and I think the normal range starts somewhere around 80 to 100 something. I tried to research it, but I couldn't find much about it. The doctor signed off on the...
  23. I would also suggest that if you are not already, keep a food journal. By tracking your foods with reactions, you will be able to tell if it's something in addition to the gluten that is bothering you. I think most of us have had that happen, we are soo happy to figure out that gluten is the culprit and think that things will only get better from there. And...
  24. I hope your diet goes well. But please remember, carbs are not the monsters they have been made out to be. It's when they become over processed and stripped of their nutrients that they become bad. They are the preferred food for our brains... so make sure you don't go crazy. Complex carbs are good for us... just remember that. And low fat isn't so bad...
  25. Congratulations!!! It's great to hear you reacted so positively so quickly. I went on my elimination diet and my headaches went away immediately. It has taken a little longer for me to totally regain the stamina I lost, but I feel better than I have in 2 years. I agree, cutting gluten out of my diet hasnt' been as hard for me as others, because when I figured...
