  1. I have been there too. You're right, yogurt is not the thing to grab. You really need to lay off dairy for a while, it will only make that stomach pain worse. I found that rice and bananas were among the few things that didn't bother me... so I ate a lot of bananas. If you can handle the nut butters, put some of that with some fruit. You definitely do need...
  2. During my pregnancy I used Palmer's Cocoa Butter lotion that is formulated to help prevent stretch marks. That was way before my gluten-free days, so definitely check the ingredients. But, as I recall, there weren't too many unknowns in there.
  3. You will find that many among has this horrible brain fog. I had it too, but didn't even realize I went gluten free, and realized my life wasn't a daze anymore. So, I can't tell you exactly how long it took to go away, but I definitely can tell a difference. My thinking is much clearer. I'm sure others on here can give you a more specific time line, but I...
  4. Congratulations!! He is absolutely adorable!!
  5. Welcome Lisa! It's amazing how this one stop on the internet has affected so many; and the information available is unreal!! I understand the frustration, keep digging. You really will find the answer.
  6. I am not sure of what is in either of those speicifically. But before you do that, you need to look into what vitamins/minerals are in both. And then find out what is water soluable and what is not. If it's not water soluable, it can become toxic. I know that ensure is used on cancer patients, or people who cannot eat or won't eat. It's pretty nutritionally...
  7. I was trying to find you an article or something... I couldn't find what I was looking for. I'm sure someone else has something, or you could check on this website. I'm sure there's something about it here too. A few major causes are surgeries, viral infections (something as simple as the flu), emotional stress, etc. I wish I could tell you what triggered...
  8. Hi and Welcome. Sorry to hear your sister was so ill, but now she can finally get better. Usually it's triggered by some sort of stressful event. Is she allergic to gluten, does she have Celiac, or both? Giving up gluten can seem challenging at first, but it becomes second nature very quickly. The redeeming quality of celiac is that her wellness can...
  9. OMG I am reading this having chest pains. I had a miscarriage; then my son was born at 36 weeks. The good part was I was barely in labor. Thankfully all was well, but he was just over 5 lbs when he came home. The more I learn about Celiac, the more I believe that I have it. In the beginning I thought it was a sensitivity, but I think more and more it's...
  10. Hi Sorry to hear about the difficulties with their children. I hope you get some answers soon. From what I have read, test results are more likely to be inaccurate in children, especially if they are really young. The reason for this is that 3 of 4 of the Celiac tests are IgA based, and children have a tendency to produce low amount of IgA. So, someone...
  11. I didn't see this already mentioned, or maybe you're already doing it, but I thought I would mention it. Even if you are taking a high quality supplement, our bodies can only absorb so much calcium at one time. When my mom had her bone scan done (she had osteoporosis) the nurse there told her to cut her supplement and take it three times a day (rather than...
  12. I couldn't agree more. And for me, if I eat bad, I feel bad, which means there is THAT much more of a chance that I am NOT going to do ANY housework. It becomes a vicious cycle.
  13. First... I am SO sorry to hear about your situation! Most of us do not realize how much we rely on water, until we don't have it. The only chance I have of understanding is that we have been in a drought here in NC. Worst in a century. We at one point only had 60 days of water left. There was talk of water rationing. But even then, it was safe to use. As...
  14. Actually, low IgA can most definitely skew test results. I am not sure what tests your DR did, but 3 out of 4 of the celiac panel are IgA based. SO.... If someone is low in IgA, their test results would be falsely low. This is my case also. However, the PA who read my results is not too savvy in Celiac (surpirse) so she signed off that my score of 19L...
  15. Yeah, I agree. Free should be free. Another reason why corporate annoys me. That is hilarious and totally disgusting at the same time!!! I think if people knew what was allowed in the majority of our foods they would be in outrage! Especially if people took the time to educate themselves on what a lot of these chemicals in our food do to our bodies...
  16. Welcome to the forum!!! Glad to see you are using it for it's purpose: support I understand about the eating it and then eating more. Back in Dec, I ate some pizza. This was when, even though I knew that gluten was bad for me, I didn't know if I had celiac or not, so I figure it was ok. Then, as I felt bad, I ate more pizza the next day. Because hey...
  17. I have an almost 3 yr old, too. That in itself is a lot of work. So between housework, trying to make sure he actually gets to spend some "good" time with me, and food, it's definitely a challenge. And I work about 28-30 hours a week... but I work at home too. (Small business w/ my mom) And that's only the beginning of a typical week for me. A few things...
  18. That is very interesting!! I had read about the potential of a new accepted gluten-free standard of 20ppm. My question, and Ken I'm asking you because you are our resident chef... what's with that? If it's such a minute scale, why bother? or is that strictly a CYA amount to cover CC?
  19. I definitely agree with you. I think that something has to initially cause the irritation, and like you said, most don't want to have to figure it out. Just throw pills at you and send you on your way. My GI told me that I probably messed up my intestines doing the Atkins diet and prescribed me a pill that eased cramping, but constipated you, and then prescribed...
  20. You are making me laugh!!! You shouldn't. Studies have proven that people who eat breakfast regularly have a much higher success rate at losing weight and maintaining it. You MUST get your metabolism started in the morning, and coffee doesn't cut it; especially if you are working out. What exactly is your body going to burn if you haven't given it anything...
  21. My husband and I have both had acupuncture, for different reasons other than appetite/fatigue, but it has worked wonders. Fixed for my husband what no traditional dr could diagnose, yet alone fix. It usually takes some time though. Not too long, but give it a few sessions. I hope it works soon!!!
  22. HI there and welcome to the board! In the beginning of Jan I had basically that same problem (well, actually for a lot longer, but it really came to it's worst in Jan)... EVERYTHING I ate made my stomach hurt terribly. I even got to the point where I really didn't want to eat because I knew I'd feel sick after. I'd be sooo hungry, and then I'd eat and...
  23. That has to be one of the strangest things I've ever read or heard of... WOW!
  24. Probably so... I know Whole Foods, but I'm pretty sure that I found it at a local health food store too. Even our Krogers around here have a pretty decent health food/gluten free section. I think I've seen it there too.
  25. The cereal is eat is Perky's Nutty Flax. Has 220 cals (remember this is a meal... not a snack), 3 g of fat (from ground flax seed, so it's good for you), and 7 g of fiber and 5 g of protein. Has only 5 ingredients, which I like... and the sweeteners are honey and raisin juice, so there's not a lot of processed anything in it. As far as baking, got nothing...
